“5 star heaven in the Club Volcan”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Writing this while enjoying afternoon tea in the Club. This is one of the luxuries provided free of charge followed by an open bar. This place is so relaxing. All the staff are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. Have never experienced the personal service given by the PR girls at other hotels. It is an amazing service. Alissa looked after us so well. Warnel, Raquel and Stefan always gave service with a smile. Everyone here seems to love working at Club Volcan it is like a big happy family. It is in a beautiful location overlooking the marina. Top quality shops and restaurants nearby. Can't recommend it enough. Will definitely stay at the Club again. Would love to be able to have dinner in the lounge next year as well as breakfast. This would definitely add to this wonderful experience. From the time you enter the amazing reception which takes your breath away the staff do all they can to ensure this is a holiday you will not forget.

We found the hotel to be a lovely experience with all the staff very attentive and helpful, particularly Raf & Maria on reception who were very professional and always gave excellent help and advice. We upgraded to the club section being of an age now (grandparents) and wanted a more relaxing holiday this time around without the grandchildren etc and this we definitely had here due to it being child free. Sunbeds were never an issue even at 16:00 in the afternoon and the pool is heated too with a small swim up bar for drinks and snacks. The rooms here within the club section are a little better then the standard rooms of the hotel, with lovely sea views and those nice little extra touches that sometimes go unnoticed. On the wife's birthday we arrived back to our room after a days excursion to find a lovely cake and Cava waiting for us, this was a lovely touch from the hotel. On leaving we had a later flight and were given a free complimentary room to use which was also a nice touch. We would return and recommend the hotel for a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Corner suites have lovely views

The hotel is nice enough and the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast is also good and there is a lot of choice. The pool is also quite nice and the location is excellent (2 mins walk to the marina) However I would say this hotel is definitely more of a four star than a five when compared to other 5 stars we've stayed at. Nearly upgraded to 'Club Volcan' on arrival after being offered a reduced rate but after looking around the 'exclusive' areas we found the 'exclusive' pool a bit too quiet for us. There also isn't much difference in the Club Volcan suites and the normal rooms and we found the normal breakfast room nicer than the 'exclusive' breakfast room you get if you upgrade. All in all though was a nice relaxing stay and for £500 each for a week we can't really complain. I would recommend the Blue Note jazz bar for food (don't get the cheesecake tho) and also for a drink after dinner (try a gin and tonic from the extensive gin selection). If you like fishing go to the rep at the excursion office in the marina about 2 minutes walk from the hotel and book the trip that's 60 euros for 6 hours from Puerto Del Carmen. Had an excellent days fishing catching Bonito's, Barracuda's and Trevally!

We had read so many reviews about this hotel which appeared to be positive so our expectations were reasonably high. The hotel is located at the end of the marina so it is actually a good twenty minutes walk from the main town of Playa Blanca and from the beach which was not a negative to us and did not create a problem. We wanted to embrace what the hotel had to offer which was allegedly a five star experience. The entrance to the hotel attempts to create a relaxed atmosphere by playing monastic music and the entrance hall is bedecked with candles burning so they are attempting to create an ethereal feeling in order we presume to give you a chilled out experience. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful and then we were shown our room which was not what we had expected as it was certainly well below what a five star hotel should offer. The room was tired and the headboard was marked and it did not do anything for us at all, we could hardly move past the bed to get to the small lounge area so this was not a good start and having paid what we had we wanted to enjoy this week with our children at this hotel, as it was a special wedding anniversary for us. We explained we were disappointed with the room and could they offer us something better they said this is all we have unless you pay for an upgrade to better accommodation. Having paid what we had it somewhat aggrieved us to have to pay more but it was a special trip so we looked at a suite which was much better than the room we had so we had to accept that we had no choice but to pay an additional premium. The staff said they would reduce the normal price to help compensate so we went with it. The next experience was then the breakfast buffet which to be fair was reasonably good and one could not complain about what was on offer bloody mary's, pink and white cava, assorted juices, fruit, cereals, cold meats salads and then the usual cooked breakfast offerings so no complaints.
Then we ventured to the pool area which was fine expect for the fact that the sunbeds were again tired the covers were in need of serious replacement and the beds were uncomfortable. There is only one bar serving drinks and food unless you wish to go and eat allegedly in the a la carte Italian restaurant on site at lunchtime. The pool area was okay but lacking in atmosphere there was no music playing, there was nothing going on, it was fine but not really what one would expect. There was a spa on site which we did not engage in and the childrens play room was very basic. There are a couple of other pool areas one on the level up from the main pool but there is no bar there to get soft drinks and the other was on the level above that and it was a childrens pool. This was not equating to the experience we were expecting.
The evening meal was a buffet every night and it was the same every night but apparently it was supposed to have a different theme each night but you would never have known. It was just plain boring after a couple of nights. There was no music playing in the restaurant it had no atmosphere, it was very unexciting. It would have been lovely if they had a guy playing a guitar or something to lift the place. You did have the option to eat in two restaurants in the marina or at the other two restaurants in the hotel 1) Japanese and 2) Italian. We spoke to a couple of other people to ask if they had tried the other restaurants they told us the Japanese was not good but the Italian was kinda of okay so we opted to go with one of the restaurants in the marina as we wanted a bit of life in the evening and somewhere with some atmosphere but the food in this restaurant was very mediocre although there was some atmosphere in the place. We then decided to at least try the Italian at the hotel but that was a big mistake as it was absolutely dire. Our daughter could not even eat her meal it was so bland and tasteless she could not stomach it. The place was empty with about three tables occupied no music, no atmosphere and lousy food. This was not a five star hotel, this was getting more disappointing by the day. We went to eat in the marina and found a lovely tapas bar at the far end by the store Fend Grube and with a lovely view of the sea. The service was good, the prices reasonable and a very good lunch. We then ventured up the hill to Playa Blanca and went into the Princess Yaisa hotel, oh my goodness how we wished we had opted for this 5 star experience as it was in a different class altogether. Lovely hotel with sumputious sunbeds, music playing in the various restaurants, we looked at the rooms and they were far superior to what we had paid for and they were only 18 euros per night more. We feel so upset by our stay at the Volcan and we did not even get our sheets changed once during our stay which is more than poor and very unsatisfactory. One day our bathroom had not even been cleaned properly as there were toothpaste and marks on the shelf in the bathroom which had not been removed, it was not what one would expect. The staff at this hotel were lovely but the hotel itself did not live up to a five star label and to be quite frank it let the staff down as they did their best to try to make sure you were happy. It is at very best 3* plus maybe just approaching 4* and I would never visit it again as it completely spoilt our wedding anniversary. Our daughter moved to the Princess Yaisa when we left and she said it was amazing. They cater for children and offer you an experience so her last few days of her holiday were so good and we are so so sad that what should have been so special for us was so mediocre and we had to pay a premium to try to achieve our 5 star experience which never manifested itself. The hotel sent us a special reserve cava and pastries on the last night after we told them how disappointed we were but it was too little to late our holiday was over and it was not at all what we had expected so so disappointing. We certainly did not get what we had paid for but nothing worse than spending it on something that is not what it is purported to be.Do not get me wrong the hotel is clean, the staff are lovely and the food is okay but this was not brilliant it does not cater wonderfully for children and it is definitely not 5 star but they are asking a five star price tag.

Room Tip: The rooms are much of a muchness unless you go for a suite but that is not even 5 star.

Just returned on 5th sept from the Volcan. Hotel is very clean , food ok ,rooms are large and have air con + ceiling fan. Pool areas are good, plenty of sunbeds no early morning rush by sunbed hoggers who don't come back till after 1 o'clock. Lisa the student from Holland was very helpful , nothing was too much trouble, lovely personality. Marina is 2 mins away with a variety of bars and restaurants , most nights live entertainment, Vino Blanco and Lanis cocktail bar are a must there is something for everyone. Would I go back ? Yes most definitely

Room Tip: If you have young children ask for rooms overlooking the babies pool 251-279

I regularly use trip advisor to check out Hotels I am keen on using. I hold my hands up and say this is my first post! Could not hold off on reviewing this Hotel - mainly so people with Young children know the score.

Main issue we had having stayed for a week (late August / early September) Half Board, with a 3 year old and a 1 year old was the meal times. Breakfast is fine and best part will cater well for your needs. Dinner however did not start until 7.30pm - having a 1 year old who is usually ready for bed at this time, did not suit well. We found meal times started to late for us. Then to add to this they have the mini disco (3 year old) on at 8pm. As this was the only form of entertainment for a 3 year old - we had to grab a very quick bite to eat and head up to the mini Disco. Why they do not let you get something to eat before starting the mini disco I do not know. If they started Meal time earlier like 7pm then both 1 year old and 3 year old could have eaten before they are ready to sleep and 3 year old could have eaten properly before the Mini Disco started.

Overall if you are looking a relaxing holiday (not staying Half Board) you will pretty much enjoy this Hotel - outside of relaxation this Hotel does not offer much else.

Room Tip: Rooms 260 + are close to the Children's pool - only tip I have.
