“Fabulous stay at the Volcan Hotel”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

My husband and I are just back from a fantastic 2 week holiday. ( our 3rd time in 18 months at this hotel) The service and staff are excellent. The rooms spotless condition was on par with the rest of the hotel and pool areas. How anyone can be disappointed with the quality and range of food prep aired is beyond me! (we have been fortunate to have travelled the world and this is up there with the best). Playa Blanca, with its marina, restaurants, bars and all is easily one of the best resorts we have visited and will be looking to book, yet again, at The Volcan. We spent some time in the Club Volcan ( children not allowed) and if you want an even greater experience and luxury upgrade to this. We will!!
To Jesus, Raf and Carlos to name just 3...........thanks again.

We recently stayed at the Volcan for 7 nights with bed and breakfast. We have stayed at this hotel within the last 4 years and wanted to return but we were a bit apprehensive due to some unfavourable reviews!
First of all the bad bits. Nothing serious but problems that should not exist in a 5 star hotel....
The egg station area in the breakfast dining room always had a long queue. The servers were always behind and chasing their tails when they should have been ahead of the game.
The small pool was never cleaned the week of our stay and appeared rather murky as a result.
The evening entertainment was poor and rather low key. You expect more from a 5 star hotel.
Finally, we had a late flight and we wanted to keep our room on but couldn't due to new guests arriving but we were not offered a courtesy room . This has never happened to us before even in 3 star hotels!

Having said all that it is a wonderful hotel with a perfect location too , right on the Rubicon Marina. We paid extra for a sea view room which was well worth it overlooking the marina. The staff are very friendly, reception courteous and attentive. The breakfast was plentiful and varied despite the egg station problem. Bar prices reasonable too.
Had a lovely relaxing week here and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Volcan Hotel is beautifully decorated throughout. There was ongoing maintenance during our stay which the management stated helped to keep the pristine look of this lovely hotel. The staff was particularly helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable of the surrounding area and the island in general. The lady representing the activity area (Dutch, highly professional and approachable by everyone – her name is Gaby) was a mine of information and always ready to assist her guests. The uniform worn by any of the staff is a form of local dress and added to the whole picture presented by the hotel.
The dining room was a great focal point and the international cuisine was “interesting”. Breakfast was a great starting point with the smaller bars around the pool providing good wholesome food during the day. The cafes and restaurants next to the hotel were particularly good and live entertainment and good food meant that if your wished, you did not have stray far. The dining within the hotel is first class.
The hotel is very close to the Marina and provides lots of interest and activity. The twice weekly market was better than most I have seen and always busy.
My first time in Lanzarote and will be well worth another trip sometime soon.

Room Tip: Check out the Adult Only areas within the hotel for that added extra quiet . The matterss toppers a...

Stayed here last year and I have to say this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms are large and airy and spotlessly clean. We never ate in the hotel so I can't comment on the food however the bar service was second to none. I would recommend

We are now up to our 11th night at the hotel.
The rooms are spacious, well furnished and very clean. The 3rd person's bed in the room was the comfiest bed ever experienced in a hotel. However, this bed is underneath a ceiling fan which persistently clicks. Cats can be frequently seen on the balcony so don't leave anything out. We left our towels on a chair and found a cat sat on them.
Some members of the party have yet to enjoy their evening meal due to the poor quality of meat available. Rabbit, duck and spare ribs are a regular feature as the carved meat option. Meat is very tough and poorly cooked. Additionally, chips are undercooked. As a consequence, we ate a lot of soup, salad, pasta and bread which was delicious. Thankfully, breakfast was very good with an option of continental and full English.
The hotel offers little evening entertainment. So far we have been audience to a dancing act and a guitarist. Other nights are known as chill out nights and on these no entertainment is on offer.
The pool area is spacious and beds are easy to obtain before 10am. The pool towels are tatty for a 5 star hotel. These are replaced at the spa although it is not always open at the opening time of 10am.
The hotel is well situated for both the marina and playa dorada beach. A taxi into town is €4. If a car is hired, parking is available under the hotel.
Wifi is only available in reception and is not always reliable.
This hotel would be an excellent bed and breakfast option.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above ground floor level and don't leave anything out on the balcony due to the v...

The volcan hotel is absolutely lovely, beautifully decorated throughout . The staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. The local dress adorned by the staff looked wonderful.
We ate breakfast in the dining room each morning which was exceptional, as was the evening dinner. Lots to choose from at each meal. Our room was lovely with a well fitted bathroom and a seating area. We had two large single beds with mattress toppers ( you have to ask reception for these). There is tea and coffee making facilities and a little fridge. Reception will also arrange an iron and ironing board if requested, no charge.
The hotel is situated 100 yards from the marina and there is a local market each Saturday and Wednesday which is very busy. The restaurants on the marina were also very good with a good selection of food and all reasonably priced.
The best restaurant we found was the Romantica restaurant in Playa Blanca, the food is outstanding as is the service and the price was lower than the marina restaurants. The staff are very efficient and pleasant. This restaurant is a €5 taxi ride from the Volcan hotel.

Room Tip: The wifi is free at reception. Ask for mattress toppers on arrival as the beds can be hard. To go...

Having read mixed reviews on this site we had a slightly juandiced view of what to expect. Arriving tired and hot after the chaos of the airport and the transfer journey our first entry to the hotel was somewhat spooky. One enters through a vast church like hall with many white candles burning and Monk-like chanting before arriving at the far end where lies the reception area. Entering reception we were greeted warmly by the duty Manager who organised refreshing cocktails while we checked in.
Arrival at our standard garden room showed this to be spacious and well appointed and was on the ground floor overlooking a secluded sunbathing area which had new sunbeds and good big umbrellas.
The breakfast buffet was quite extraordinary with a vast range of fruits, cerials, cheeses. cold cuts, breads, hot dishes and items cooked to order. We had booked half board with the intention of trying the hotel for a couple of nights first, but we ate there every night as the food quality and choice range was very good. A bottle of house wine was 12.80 euros - very reasonable for hotel restaurant prices!
If you want to use the internet, the best WiFi area is at reception level or down in the bar area at the bottom of the waterfall, where they serve the biggest G&T you've ever had! There are many complaints on this site about poor WiFi and speed. Come on folks, we are on holiday after all! There is no fibre here so speeds are slow. To just catch up on e-mails and do Facetime or Whatsapp, it works fine.
The Hotel is situated behind the Marina and is around 2.5km from Playa Blanca centre in one direction and about the same distance the other way to a beach. There are shops, restaurants and bars in the Marina area and a market visits twice a week. Go early if you don't like crowds! The is a shopping mall with a good supermarket approx 250mts towards Playa Blanca.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the Management mingled freely with the guests (in some hotels you never see a Manager!)
All things considered, this is a good, well run hotel which we intend to visit again. Don't read too much into peoples moans, some people are way too fussy!

Room Tip: Don't be put off by negative reviews. The Positives well outweigh the negatives
