We have recently arrived back from the Papagaya hotel and I have to say what a lovely hotel.
Yes it is big but loads of room, a totally relaxing bar on the floor with a fountain, various bars to choose from with entertainment in the main one that has an outside terrace, there is also another outside bar called the chill out bar, again lovely and relaxing.
The rooms were clean and large, staff were very friendly.
We asked by e-mail if possible to have a seaveiw room and were not disappointed, it was lovely.
We also liked the fact that we did not have to pack beach towels as they were provided and we were able to have them changed everyday.
A really relaxing enjoyable stay `recommended`

upgraded to elite, well worth it, bottle of champers on ice when we arrived was a nice touch. Smart room, fabulous views, nice walk along the front to Rubicon Marina with the market on Wednesday and Saturday. Good food selection with the Chinese and Mexican restaurants a must. Elite Breakfast dining room gave a nice calm start to the day. No problem with sun chairs around the pool and terraces. Only issue, large place, easy to get lost when you've had a few scoops. Outdoor chill out bar beautiful, especially on a nice warm evening. Would return.

Room Tip: Blocks A to D, higher if possible. sea view rooms

Not too sure why people have rated this hotel as highly - its ok but nothing more - food is fine mostly buffet style with some modest attempts at offering al a carte options. Drinks are standard fare but cocktails poor by most standards.Reception is a bit slow but rooms although they can be quite remote from the dining areas are fine. Finding them initially can be something of a challenge and there is no attempt to show you to your room.
Generally atmosphere is quite understated in fact it has little ambience at all. Same applies to the main Canarian style bar which is dated and needs refurbishing - Green bar and Chill out bars much better but opening hours restricted.
Anyone used to the AI standard in Mexico, Turkey & even Egypt may find this offering disappointing.

Hotel was clean but the staff was quite unfriendly and un- helpful. We were only staying for a week but that was long enough. The rooms were large but the beds very hard. We booked the elite package and thank goodness we did as the main bar was terrible, hard chairs and tables and no where to relax. The elite bar was very comfortable and served well known labelled drinks all day. As a whole the place was very clean although some of the ladies toilets needed a good clean. We were in block C and when we arrived nobody showed us our room we had to struggle down lifts up stairs up lifts and the directions were appalling everyone was saying how complicated the layout was. We did enjoy the walk to the Port and it is a lovely peaceful place with great bars. Sorry Lanzarote we didn't like you as a country black grey and dull.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms nearer to pools etc.

Travelled with my partner and son (8) from 18th to 28th November. Having been to all of the canary islands except Lanzarote, i thought i would give this a go based on
such good reveiws on TA..We were NOT disappointed. On arrival check in was quick and smooth. We were allocated a room in C Block Level 4 after emailing the hotel before hand..what a view...was glorious to look out to sea and hear the waves crashing.

Cleanliness - the maids came daily, cleaned, made beds up and changed towels if necessary, were always very efficient and friendly. The grounds themselves are spotless and constantly being cleaned, there are also plenty of toilets around the hotel.

Food - Was a huge selection of food availble every sitting, my favourite happened to be the breakfast, i lived on the omlettes. Several meat dishes cooked fresh in front of you in the evening. We also visited the Mexican twice as we throughly enjoyed it, we also booked the oriental which was fairly good too. You would struggle to ever go hungry.

Bars - Drinks - There are several bars located around the hotel and there is no restriction on how many drinks you order which is quite rare. The pool bar is a god send as it is located next to the heated pool. The chill out bar is a must, drinks served in glasses which is a bonus. There are amazing views from here especially watching the sunset..fabulous.

Location - Right at the very end of Playa Blanca, about a 15 minute walk to to the Marina where there is a lovely market on Wednesday and Saturdays. Although to go right into the centre of Playa Blanca it is only approx 4 euros in a taxi.

Pools - There are 5 pools, 3 large, 2 small (kids). One large pool heated in the winter. Always plenty of sunbeds and lots of beds away from the pools also if thats what your prefer.

I do not want to complain about any aspect of the holiday as it was totally chilled, fabulous hotel, food, people and weather but my only gripe would be that the pools are in need of some maintenance, during our 10 night stay, my son had collected 16 tiles that had come away from the pool and on the 2nd to last day actually cut his toe, i was more concerned than he was! I did report this to our Thomas Cook rep (Nicola) as i thought the hotel should be made aware, i would not want them to drop down in their TA ratings due to the continued mentioning about the pool tiles.

I would also like to thank Steven from the Animation team who always made the effort to speak to my son and have some banter with him...made him feel very good.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed and already looking to go back in March and i never usually go back to the same hotel twice!

Room Tip: Try to get a room in Blocks B or C...Guaranteed full sea view.

I stayed at The Sandos papagayo for a week with my husband and two friends at the end of November. This is a lovely hotel , you can see how superbly appointed it is from the moment you walk in .The rooms were big with amazing views of the sea and the pool. The food was excellent there was only one night I didn't like the dinner but that was just down to personal choice, the Mexican and the Oriental restaurants were the best I cant comment on the French and Itailan restaurants as we never tried them. I read reviews of how big the hotel is but there are signposts throughout the hotel to assist you . The only advise i would give is try and share a taxi from the airport to the hotel (approx 40-50 Euros) as we were on the shuttle bus for over 2 hours on the way there . All in all we all thourghly enjoyed our stay and I would definitely recommend The Sandos papagayo.

We have recently booked our 4th trip to this fab resort and cannot wait to go back in January for 2 weeks. The countdown is definitely on. The staff are just lovely, so friendly and the hotel is spotless, theres always someone cleaning. The rooms are huge with amazing views and the balcony is the place to go and sit before dinner with a cava watching the sun go down. The food is outstanding, so much choice and very tasty. Went to the Mexican a few times, was great fun. Cannot fault this fab hotel, so clean, lovely staff and the food is fab too. We stayed in blocks A and B and the views from the balcony are stunning. Cant wait to get back there in January :)

Room Tip: blocks A and B, nice and quiet and fab fab views from the room.
