“50th birthday escape”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

we travelled to the H10 as a group of 8 to celebrate my 50th birthday, having never been to Lanzarote it was all new to some of us. 1st impressions of the hotel were excellent, everything looked clean tidy and in its place. we were a late afternoon arrival and food was laid on for us which was very nice. (no champagne however) the reception and check in was very good and our bags were quickly whisked off to our rooms. the hotel and its rooms are looking a bit tired and needs a bit of TLC but the staff are making an effort. on the basis that the hotel is open 365 days a year its not doing too bad. the rooms are spacious and comfortable the bars and restaurant's are very clean and the food is very good, plenty of variety and variations to the theme. the pool area was nice and clean and tidy with plenty of beds and space to chill out. the entertainment team are keen and always trying to get people involved. we were the 1st group of guests to sample the karaoke with Fabio and he did a sterling job, it will get more popular. the entertainment at times is a bit tongue in cheek but again everyone is trying very hard. the piano bar entertainment on some nights was excellent. sadly there is always a little down side and in the H10's case its the pool bar restaurant . we complained to the staff/management and the Thomson rep about the food hygiene issues in there. the place is over run with doves! sitting above you while you eat and of course flying around trying to find scraps. sadly somebody gets hit with the inevitable . not always an issue but when they sit on the clean plates, food counter and the plastic lid covered food , it really doesn't inspire you to eat in there. in its defence the main buffet restaurant is not far away. the Thomson rep sadly was more interested in her other jobs to deal with the complaint so if you go eat in the buffet. we celebrated my 50th in the ala carte restaurant which I can highly recommend. the staff looked after us so well and it made the stay special. the location of the hotel is perfect both for access to the beach and to the resort centre. market days are special and good fun. make sure you feed the fish on the wooden jetty they are huge. for the dancers out there make sure you visit the "jungle" bar/club music goes on till very early. cab prices are cheap so access to other places is really easy and there is a bus stop outside the back gate. all in all a pretty descent escape but needs a little help to justify its status. reps need a kick up the bum as well

enjoy.

Room Tip: all the rooms are fairly quiet, as they are strict on entertainment cut off times.

Well after reading many reviews about this Hotel we were very worried about going, due to the comments about the food, condition of the rooms, the state of the pool!!!!!!! Well let me tell you!!! this is 100% true review.

we arrived at the Hotel to a warm welcome and a lovely glass of Champers. WE the proceeded to our room, huge room, two double wardrobes with hangers in each of them.
two larger than single beds with chest of draws either side of the bed with two pillows on each bed plus extra pillows in the wardrobe and extra bedding too. a large dressing table with a mirror above and 3 draws attached. and a bookcase come storage unit for your sun creams etc. a tv on the wall with 9 English channels to choose from. a large sofa very comfortable and can be used for a double bed. the bathroom was clean, bath and shower were clean and the water lovely and hot. also a hairdryer attached to the wall worked well too.

now on to the restraint WOW I have never seen so much food in all my life! Breakfast anything from boiled eggs to fresh omelette bacon mushrooms, beans, sausage, pancakes ,fresh pizza, assortment of hams, fresh rolls, toast, fresh fruits, porridge breakfast cereals..... Beautiful

Lunch, anything from soup, salad, always a selection of hot and cold meats with either boiled potatoes, roasters, chips, and a huge selection of vegetables.

Evening meal... where do I begin!! Lobster, salmon, fish dishes, pate, salads, hot and cold meats, gravy, pastas, currys and much more... Absolutely beautiful. the waiter service was good wines and drinks were plentiful. I honestly cant find fault in this hotel, food, staff, and will be returning next year.

The swimming pools were in good condition, clean, with a lovely selection of childrens slides etc in the pool.

Entertainment was fair to middle. two really good shows, karaoke not to our taste, so we sat out in the bar area where a pianist played.

we honestly think other hotels are hacking into other hotels and writing awful reviews. I hope this helps you in choosing this hotel.... Happy holidays from Ricky and Sue Davies who were there on the 22nd December - 29th

Room Tip: Just go and see for yourself.

We stayed at this hotel in August and had nothing to complain about. Friendly staff, fine location, delicious food and nice, clean rooms. Dinner in restaurant Sakura was also very nice - the food was served looking fabulously.

Having just returned from this hotel I comment on the following
The Pool has been completed as from the 16th Dec.I was up-graded due to work on the pool prior to this date.
It is correct to say that this Hotel has had a lot of work done recently rooms redone ect. However as this Hotel was the first one built in Playa Blanca its old and needs constant work to be done.
As for the water if you are all inclusive the water and all local drinks are free,Even Gordons Gin All cocktails Bells Whisky are included. The staff are great. If you check the room prices,Garden View or side road views are cheaper than Pool or sea view. Some people complain and get upgarded, but if you pay for a garden road view thats what you get.I have been going for years and will go back for its Location, Staff ect, I enjoy it Over 50% of people going here have been going for many years. There are hotels in Playa Blanca that from the outside, look better but lack the heart of this Hotel. If you like it say, sadly some of the comments here as the least are not accurate some are not true at all.But there you are.thats life.

Room Tip: Great for children.Check if work is being done.I always chose a High Pool View.Rooms looking towards...

4 stars. Mr Magoo must have assessed the hotel. Shabby and dirty. The cleaning staff do a good job but the rooms are tired. Hand towels are hung next to the toilet. Eww.

Pool is freezing cold and poorly maintained.

Canteen restaurant is a nightmare. The food is nice, but often not very hot. Waiters are very good. The saving grace is the terrace restaurant area. Peaceful and comfortable.

Location is good for town and Marina. 20 min walk to marina. Beach is less than 5 mins walk. It's not a nice beach. Full of sunbeds and overcrowded. Get the bus to papagayo beach and walk for 15 mins. Steep walk to and from beach. Beach is ok. Take your lunch with you.

All in all I would not return to playa Blanca. There are much better locations in the canary islands. I'm keeping that to myself.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the h10 Princess Lanzarote with my boyfriend. It is a nice hotel! I'd personally rate it 3* (UK standards). Weather was good although a bit overcast, but hey, it is December!
Things I liked:
Newly renovated relatively clean hotel
Nice fizz on arrival (and option to have fizz/ Bloody Mary at Breakfast!)
Friendly staff
Rooms modern
Food was great
Great location, v near beach and shops etc
Free mini golf
Beds rock solid

Things I didn't like:
The pools were being renovated, lots of noise and v ugly! Got upgraded to AI though when I complained as I only chose the hotel due to pools
Wifi terrible, infact, don't expect any internet to work- they said it was a one off but the internet wasn't working at all when we were there
Had to pay to use the safe
Had to pay a deposit to use the towels
No spa
Gym a little sparse

Things to know:
Cost about 45E to get a taxi to/from taxi
The car hire place in the shops opposite the hotel/near the beach is a rip off, stay well away
Driving is pretty easy but the maps you get given are useful
Take a day out to go to the volcano and the underground caves- costs around 9E to get into both areas
The pools are completely out of action and a lot of work is going on to get them up and running
People who stay at the hotels: golden oldies and family members

We have been staying at the Lanzarote Princess since the late 1980s and have thoroughly enjoyed most of our holidays but oh dear me the hotel has certainly gone downhill since it started to offer all inclusive deals. It is such a shame as the hotel was fantastic and had a large number of guests like us who returned year after year. Now the restaurant is understaffed, the food often luke warm at best, and the dress code, clearly posted outside the restaurant, is not enforced (no shorts or sleeveless shirts at dinner). The hotel seems to be full of badly behaved, noisy and sometimes agressive children with parents not making the slightest attempt to control them. I think that the number of families now staying at the hotel combined with the all inclusive deals has had a detrimental effect. Public areas are already shabby even though not long refurbished and the rooms are starting to look tatty. We always request a room overlooking the pool but this year we were given a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking a side road which workmen were resurfacing, working from 7.30 am to 6 pm Monday-Friday. On top of this and during our second week the pool was fenced off and work started on digging it up - apparently the pool had developed a leak.
On the plus side, I think this is a good place to stay for families and those who have not previously seen the hotel in its "glory days". It is a good value 3 star hotel and people seemed happy with the all inclusive deals. The hotel is in a fantastic location and of course the weather can't be beaten
Will we come again? After 20+ years visiting and some very happy times spent - sadly we are not sure...sorry Virginia :(

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor overlooking the pool are the best
