“an average 3star..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

Firstly the waterpark advertised in the 2012 brochure is no where near finished,it is estimated to be completed in november 2012.
The hotel is undergoing quite a comprehensive refurb, currently only half the facilities are operational, but building works/noise were no problem.
The hotel is located on an elevated position overlooking playa-blanca about 2km away.with its hillside position it is very windy, especially at night giving a nasty windchill, needed a coat/jumper every night,to cold to sit outside.
We travelled with 2 children aged 12 and 9 who quickly made friends and made there own enjoyment.facilities are very lacking for older children, thank god for the pool.
The two pools were ok but both freezing cold, even the kids paddle pool was freezing.
There are free sun-beds,with no need to put towels on the night before.
The hotel itself is ok,a basic 3star,rooms are clean and tidy, linen is changed daily.
The grounds are fine, again neat and tidy, with lots of wild cats roaming around.
The pool bar was good, the hotel mainbar was ok but lacked any atmosphere, the entertainment bar was ok but all the entertainment is designed for families with small children.the animation team were good, they left you alone if you did not wish to join in the daily activities at the pool.
the nightime entertainment was dire, again fine if you have small kids.
The food was fine, breakfast; was a,full english every day..lunch; meats, fish salads...dinner; again good meats, bbq, fish salads,soups..desserts with all meals.
The pool bar offered snacks out of meal times, toasties and sandwiches but ice creams are not free as brochure suggests.
Outside the hotel we walked to the volcano from the hotel it took 40 mins the view was amazing.
There is a craft market at playa blanca on weds/saturday morning.
The hotel offers a free courtesy bus to playa blanca which is an ideal free taxi service to and from the hotel.Playa blanca is gorgeous,a promenade runs for 2km with shops, bars, restaurants
with nice beaches dotted along its length, and the main thing very little wind, felt allot warmer in playa blanca than at hotel.
The weather was fine during our stay but found the wind at the hotel quite a problem, friends of ours who stayed near to our hotel last year in august said the same thing about the wind.
Would stay in playa blanca again but nearer to beachfront and not at this hotel.
we payed £310 p/person all inc..would feel hard done by paying anymore to stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: we had room 218--suntrap balcony in late afternoon/evening.with a pool view quite close to everythin...

Returned yesterday 16/04/2012
Was a bit apprehensive after reading all the reviews.
We went with Thomas Cook - not bad but have to pay for head phones on flight 2.75 per set.
Check in was pretty quick and the reception staff were very polite.
We were given room 304 which looked out sideways on to the pool. The room was basic but clean, all you need for all inclusive, even though the room had a kettle, fridge and 2 ring cooker for late night snacks etc.
The pool was not a bad size but in the height of summer would get too crowded. You got an initial shock when jumping in the pool as it was cold but after 5 minutes was refreshing.Couldnt of been that cold as i was always in it, sometimes not through choice lol.
Pool bar- self service on beers and fizzy drinks and tea/coffee.Plastic cups were provided, which i liked for safety round the pool.Food was available by the pool bar, this was a limited selection but was enjoyable.
Animation Team- Activites available all day from 10 - 4 mon-sat (day of rest Sunday) great team for upto 10 years old, but the teenagers would struggle to keep occupied unless adults were involved.
They hold a mini disco at 8.30 where they do dancing with the younger children.
9pm they give certificates out for the days games.
Then they put shows on- these were not out cup of tea- but hey free beer.
After the shows they are meant to put a disco on, but they always played Spanish Music, we were told they had to play Spanish, we complained out holiday not theres and we wanted to dance to music we knew.
The Chinese restaurant was very basic and not a lot of choice, but wehat they did serve was nice.
The main restaurant had a fair selection of food so always something for everyone, even a junior section. In the summer the restaurant will get too busy and you may struggle to find a table.
Internet access in reception at 1 euro 10 minutes.
Waterpark was due to open May 1st but building is still at foundation level, we were told it is more likely end August before it will be completed.
There is some work going on upgrading rooms but noise is minimal.
We went all inclusive but due to lack of evening entertainment (some will like what the hotel put on but was not our cup of tea)we went into the toewn centre.3 euros each way in a taxi.(so might be wise to take a few extra euros)
Irish Anvil in the centre well worth going to and children allowed in all night.Singer on most nights, football and golf on most days.
If you decide to go in..ask Peter if he is still looking after Peters ball...lol...great pub and good food.
All in all we had a good holiday and would go again,

Room Tip: ask for 2nd floor as you get a good balcony and views are amazing, also more secluded

An excellent relaxing holiday with very friendly staff and reasonable facilities. Could it be better? Yes! but if you choose a ‘good value for money’ 3 star hotel then you get what you opt for. Had some minor problems to begin with – needed more pillows, balcony light not working and kettle worked when it felt like it – I judge a place on how they deal with the problems and I can report a 5 star service in correcting them.
Had read somewhere that certain apartments suffered from sewage smells, We were the unlucky ones but were moved without any hassle into a poolside apartment with great views. For future reference if you plan to stay here, avoid apartments in 300`s, which is where the main sewage drain for the complex is. I also recommend asking for an upper floor apartment (site on 2 levels) as the views were great (we were in 214).
Seemed to be some concern on trip advisor about the food. I consider myself to be a fussy holiday eater, but thought the food was pleasant and varied enough for my 10 days. Breakfast was excellent with great fresh eggs. In the evening you can opt for Chinese next to the main buffet restaurant – but the choice was so limited it appeared a little pointless and would have sat better as part of the selection in the buffet restaurant.
When we originally booked we were half-board; this entitled us to breakfast and an evening meal, but no drinks. I ordered two small beers at the poolside bar and it cost me 4 euros! Neither myself of my wife are big drinkers but we do like a few small beers around the pool during the day. We immediately opted for an all-inclusive upgrade that cost us 10 euros each per day. Considering that gave us our drinks during the day, drinks in the evening and an additional lunchtime meal, it was money very well spent.
The poolside experience was pleasant with plenty of sun loungers. The rules state that beds cannot be reserved with towels – I guess it’s true that rules were made to be broken as it was not enforced. That said you could go to breakfast at 9 am and still get a good selection of beds afterwards. The loungers had no mattresses, a bit annoying, but you can hire them for 1 euro a day each from reception. The animation team were friendly and left you alone if dancing around the pool was not your thing! Music was played from about 11am onwards, not too loud and a nice choice of songs, but they did seem to play the same ones each day.
The evening entertainment was available below the pool bar but we did not partake. The reception area bar was a pleasant place to have a few drinks, game of cards or just relax with your iphone as the Wi-Fi reception ( 2 euros a day ) was at its peak, strength wise, here. In the apartment the Wi-Fi was a little erratic. We did venture down to the main Playa Blanca centre. We walked ( 20 mins) and took a taxi ( 3 euros ). If you time it right you can get the last free beach bus (complimentary hotel service) and then walk or taxi back. The main promenade was bustling and lively with a good selection of local and international restaurants.
All in all a pleasant break and we would return, however, we did feel the Hotel was quite a way out from the main Playa Blanca centre.

Room Tip: avoid apartments in the 300's because of the main sewage drain

Stayed here for a week over Easter ( 4 adults and 4 kids in total ) Was not knowing quite what to expect as the reviews are so mixed.
We arrived quite early and were greated with smiles from the receptionists who were also happy to let us have our wristbands to go and have breakfast as we waited for our rooms to be vacated and cleaned after the previous guests .
Was nicely suprised , the rooms are basic but most importantly clean and we were given clean towels almost everyday. There was some building going on near were we were staying due to the water park being built , but to be very honest we hardly heard any noise.
Some people were dissapointed as they were sold the holiday with assurance that the water park was up and running . That was not to be , and looking at the site it wont be finished by May . Anyway this did not affect our holiday , The kids had such a great time hanging round the pool and taking part in the activities.
The restaurant was very clean , the staff helpfull and the food was great . The kids were very happy to help themselves and never got bored of it.
What makes this hotel really great is the animation team , They are so happy and friendly and have so much energy. They really do work hard to keep the kids and the adults happy with activities day and night.
Would certainly return and am looking at booking for 2 weeks in the summer.
Well done Paradise Island! Keep up the good work.

stayed at the paradise island 25th march to 5th april, i am a diabetic which is complicated by pancreatic cancer, two days in i asked for the poor bar diet pepsi to be checked as i was feeling unwell and repeated this request two days later, the bar manager was called and i was informed that only the reception bar and restuarant had diet pepsi and although advertised as diet the pool bar one was sugared, After explaining to the manager how dangerous this was for me i was told too bad and if i wanted diet pepsi i had to pay for it, unacceptable as i was all inclusive in the end they kept big bottle s in the fridge for me. in our 11 day stay sheets were only changed once and apartment floor was filthy, the only thing that saved this holiday for me was the lovely people that i met, as there really isn't anywhere to go for a stroll.

After reading the bad reviews on here i was expecting a hovel but was pleasantly surprised. its what you would expect for a 3 star hotel complex, no frills cheap and chearful. the appartments were basic but spacious and clean n tidy. maids cleaned every day and we always had phones, ipods and portable dvd players on show usually charging up, nothing went 'missing' from our room. the food was ok its what u would expect for all inclusive hols but was plenty of choice n most nights were roast meats sliced in front of you or fish. the staff were all very hard workers and would go that extra mile, especially the animacion team work hard to keep everyone entertained especially the kids. The complex is a decent size not too big, not too small, i felt comfortable letting my 2 children wonder around while i was by the pool. pools were cold but the kids didnt seam to mind by 8 year old daughter was in the pool nearly all day every day! Me and my family had a wonderful holiday we got back yesterday and wished we could stay another week. a holiday is definitely what you make of it and we met some lovely friendly people out there, the hotel and the facilities just added to the fab experience! the only downside is that when we booked the holiday 2 weeks before going, we were under the impression from the brochure that the water park was built until we realised the pictures in the brochure are images of what they expect it to look like once finished, which according to them will be may 2012. When the water park is finished it will only enhance a lovely hotel. all in all a great holiday!
