“Great new year holiday”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Don't be put off by any bad reviews for this hotel. From start to finish our holiday was fab. I will satrt with reception, on arrival smiley friendly face welcoming us to the hotel and asking for our booking reference (we booked with travel republic). Got the key and all infromation we needed and yes you pay a deposit for the safe key and remote control but you egt it back no probelms so not sure what other peoples probelm is with this. We got a ground floor apartment and we prefer a second floor so i went back to reception, no probelm changed it straight away and the safe key. the rooms are clean but are a little bit basic, normal self catering accomodation not hotle rooms. Plently of hot water even on a cloudy day and cleaned regularly. The restaurant can be busy but the staff work hard to keep tables clean and re set, after a day or so you can get the timing right and as a family with grown up children we like to ahve a nice relaxed eveing meal and sit at the table for some time this was ot a problem if we ate at about 8.15-8.30pm. The food choice is massive and i defy anyone to say otherwise, it was hot also and plentiful right up to the end of service. Yes the bar in the lobby arae could be busy but only a few minutes to wait for a drink which were served in proper glasses. New years Eve was great, live music and fireworks, we opted for the champagne bar at extra cost whihc had a reseved table and a balcony to view fireworks and you could see then all across the bay. The location was good, ony 15 min walk to beach but there was a bus every hour which we used to come back on.
Please take on board my comments and don't be put off by ohers i expect a high standard of food and service and for a busy hotel i could not fault this. One thing i must add though and don't want to appear snobby but the only thing that is a negative is large groups and british holidaymakers that drop rubbish to the floors, sing and chant football songs whilst drinking all day by pool bar and swear and curse at there chilldren but not a lot the hotel could do about that. WE stayed clear of the dico/entertainment bar and sat in the lobby bar and on the verdandas and had a fabulous holiday.

Room Tip: We had room 518 whihc was down a path by a side entrance to the water park it was quiet and away fro...

My husband and i have just returned from a week at this hotel. The negativity is unbelievable. Our apartment was spacious, clean in a sunny position with plenty hot water.
I would agree its not 4star and the intercontinental restaurant was hectic at times, with not enough staff or tables for the amount of guests . The food was amazing you just could not fault the variety and presentation.
We were childless and i would say that this is very much a family hotel. And its a place for people who just want to lie by the pool and drink and eat, but thats what is to be expected.
This is a fab hotel for families. Its safe with plenty for children off all ages.
And even though its all inclusive you don't have to stay around all day.
My husband and i made rolls and took fruit from the dining area and escaped all day and returned for evening meals.
I am sure that there were people who did not move from the pool and the bars, get out and see the area.Playa Blanca and surrounding area is beautiful.

stayed here from 26th dec to 2nd jan, a week away to bring in the new year.

We are a family of 5, 3 kids age 10, 8, 5 and also my mum came along for the holiday.

Hotel isn't a 4 star !!! Its striving to be a 4 star but has a long way to go, rooms are basic and dated, restaurant is a total joke!!! every night I had to clear the table and re set it for ourselves on one occasion I asked a member of staff if the could clear the table to be told no it wasn't her area!! Pretty poor if you ask me. The food as ok there wasn't a great selection in my opinion, however on new years eve the really went all out and the food, the service was amazing it should be this standard at all times!!! This is also the only hotel I have been to that doesn't have hand sanitisers on the way in for people to clean there hands, this is probably why my girl was so sick on new years eve with germs breeding!! Lots of people picking food up with hands then changing their mind and putting it back, disgusting!

Lobby bar at night was a disgrace, one man on the bar with a queue of at least 15 people waiting on a drink then getting it served in a plastic cup as there wasn't enough glasses is really poor service, when you eventually did get served a smile wouldn't go wrong!!

Snack bar at day was manic most of the time, kids picking food up putting it back cats hovering around really unhygienic!! The bar man behind the snack bar was so unhelpful, rude and just a not nice person in general!!

Entertainment team were a lovely bunch of people, always said hello when passing by, always tried to involve kids in anything they were doing, we never went to the night time disco or shows so not sure how this was.

Water park is a great addition to this hotel and probably made the holiday bearable, kids loved this and the football pitch.

All in all we had a great holiday as we were aware of the storms, wind and rain back home so we made sure we made the most of the holiday!! Hotel has a lot of work needing done which is a shame as would be great if it was up to standard. There was a broken step leading from pool to reception the first day we were there it was still broke the day we left, small things like this spoil it.

We were room 110 the view on the balcony for the sunset was amazing!

Any questions please ask

Room Tip: 110 and 112 had an amazing view for the sunset

stayed here for 1 week over christmas.having read both good and bad didnt quite know what to expect. we came for an enjoyable week in the sun and thats what we got. apartment was clean and comfy with a sunny balcony. restaurant was a bit hectic at times but the food was tasty with plenty of variety, christmas buffet was lovely though i was amused at some folks having chicken nuggets and chips for xmas dinner. staff were pleasant for the most part and any fellow guests we spoke to were nice. hotel is not luxury but for the price was good value.certainly enjoyed our week away from rotten weather. would not hesitate to stay here again but will another of the islands next time

This is our second time at this hotel and I am amazed at some people who claim this is such a bad hotel. We have had lots of holidays all over Europe and this place is up there with best of them. Yes, it's a bit crowded but with the restaurant open for 4 hours at night and more than 2 breakfast and lunch you can go early or late and avoid the rush. Rooms are cleaned 5 days a week. Firm beds but not so bad they're uncomfortable. Staff are really nice. The water park is a great new addition. The people who claim the food is bad must be living in luxury in England. I am a fussy non meat eater and I had no shortage of food. Chinese not as good as last time but presence of Italian is good extra.
Only negative I agree with is poor entertainment but again we have noticed the decline in entertainment throughout all inclusive hotels in Spanish resorts.

Room Tip: Most rooms are good. Probably rows beginning with 4, 5 or 6 is best

DO NOT book here if you are used to good standard 4* hotels.
What a let down this place is, it has never been anywhere near a 4* hotel. In comparison to hotels like Rubicon Palace, Riu Paraiso, Iberostar Papagayo it is appalling, it does not compete on any level.
Rooms - Basic and dated, reasonably clean, broken tiles to floors, shower didn't work properly, very little hot water.
Food - Not too bad, but dining room is like trying to eat in a zoo, not a relaxing place at all, food all over floor, tables not cleared and even when they were the just clear the plates and leave all the food debris, no new table cloths. Chinese - ok but nothing to get excited about. Didn't try Italian.
Lobby Bar - Only open after 6pm, massive queues to get served, plastic cups half the time as never enough glasses, nowhere near enough seats. Only place to get a drink during the day is at the pool bar which needed a health warning.
Pool Bar / Snack Bar - Full of tattooed, beer swilling, foul mouthed yobs singing football songs all afternoon whist their kids run riot around the complex. Usual fare from snack bar, extremely un hygienic as unsupervised kids pick things up and then drop it back in the food.
Show bar - Far too small for number of people, drinks in plastic glasses with massive queues to get served. Shambolic entertainment quiz with reps led quiz shows.
Pool - Main pool freezing, heated pool too small also difficult for kids to get out of. Nowhere to get away from the pool bar mob. Most of sunbeds broken, never saw anyone clean pool.
Aqua Park - Good fun, my 8yr old son loved it. Lifeguards on the ball keep everybody in check. Also a haven away from the beer swilers as there's no alcohol available from the bar.
Staff - Most of them were pretty good, but generally not enough of them, particularly in the dining room.
Mirador Bar- Most of the people wouldn't even know this place existed, it is the half board bar where you had to pay for drinks. Sadly we ended up here most nights and paid for our drinks as it was the only place you could sit in comfort with no sign of drunken people everywhere.
General - Hotel is possibly 3* at a stretch but the clientele down grade it to 2*. We thought it may just have been a bad couple of weeks but as we were leaving a fresh batch of quality clientele arrived.
If you want a nice family holiday in a quality hotel STAY AWAY FROM HERE.
If you want to drink, swear, chant football songs all day with string vested, knotted hanky brits this is the place for you.

Room Tip: You can visit the other HL hotels as part of the all inclusive, we went to the Rio Playa Blanca a fe...
