“Extremely Good value for money”
Reviewed 20 September 2011

This is my third visit to this hotel in the past 3 years and I have had an enjoyable holiday on each occasion both with my children and grandchildren and simply as an adult break as well. I find it hard to understand the some of the bad comments in some of the reviews as this has not been my experience at all!

Prior to travelling this time I contacted the hotel to ask, if possible, for rooms in a specific part of the hotel which they said that they would try and do and in fact did even though the hotel was fully booked and the rooms that they gave me were more expensive ones than those that I had booked and paid for!.

I have always found the staff to be polite, helpful and courteous and the food to be excellent - the AI package in particular being extremely good value. The range of food and drink is excellent and there is always somewhere open in the hotel if you need either.

Whilst it is some distance from the beach the hotel do run and excellent - FREE - coach to and from the beach several times a day and there is a wonderful cliff top walk to the Harbour and market (15-20 mins depending on how quickly you want to walk) and it is the same distance again to the beach and old town.

If you don't want to walk or get the bus then consider a taxi. There are plenty and they are very resonable compared to the UK - for example a taxi for 4 of us from the centre back to the hotel cost us 3.40 euros.

I would agree that the hotel is a bit dated BUT it is in good condition and kept very clean and on the couple of occasions when we needed maintenance we had assistance in our room within 15 minutes of calling reception and asking for it. This is a much better service than I have experienced in many other hotels.

The entertainment team work very hard arranging activities during the day and providing 3 evening shows as well - on three other evenings external acts provide the shows and on one night a week there is no show. My grandchildren certainly enjoyed the kids clubs on both occasions when they came with us. I should say that all my visits have been in August/September and the entertainment may well be different outside of these peak months!

My first visit was with a tour company and the last 2 have been direct bookings.

Room Tip: We like the apartments which are over the road from the main hotel but connected by an underpass. Th...

I always enjoy my stays here. I usually go for 5 – 7 days on an all-inclusive basis. This trip was my 8th visit since 2008.

Check in was quick and efficient, I was surprised that on this visit I was not asked to pay on arrival but on departure. This booking was made directly on the Iberostar website which was a little convoluted as I had 2 valid discount codes and their system would only accept one code. This was resolved by e-mailing the call center direct. After making the booking I e-mailed the hotel and asked to be put in one of the rooms that faces Calle Las Palmas. These rooms are less popular as they do not have a sea or pool view but are much quieter. Unfortunately I was put in a pool facing room. The hotel would not consider a change as they were full which surprised me as I wanted a less “popular” room and there were still 40 rooms to be checked into that day. Not the best way to treat a regular guest!

As described in the title the hotel is consistent. The food is always of a good quality with plenty of choice. The self-service drinks are of a high standard and offer excellent value. Half board guests can upgrade to inclusive drinks with dinner for just 5 Euro per day. The drinks choice offered at the main bar is extensive and we did not have to wait longer than 30 seconds to be served. It’s good to report that the all-inclusive drinks are now available until midnight (when the bar closes.) Last year AI ended at 23.00 unless you moved down to the show bar in the basement.

During school holiday periods it is always very difficult to find a sunbed with parasol around the pool. This time (mid-September) this was not a problem with sunbeds always available. There is a naturist terrace (FKK) on the 6th floor which is always very quiet and has been improved with a new floor surface and plants. You do not have to be naked to use this facility.

A new pontoon has been built outside the hotel to give direct access to the sea, a great facility.

The Wellness Spa is fantastic. There is an additional charge of 5 Euro to use these fantastic facilities. The Spa is always very quiet and on the 2 occasions I used it on this visit
I did not see another person.

The hotel is in an ideal location 15 minute walk to Marina Rubicon, a further 15 minutes to the centre of Playa Blanca. In the opposite direction are the fantastic Papagayo Beaches.

I’d be delighted to answer any specific questions about the hotel and give details of beaches.

I will be going back but not until 2012!

Stayed here for 10 days on half board basis, food was simply to die for, and several mornings Cava was available for breakfast, what a way to start the day, even got strawberries with the Cava one morning !!!, staff very helpfull, hotel facilities excellent. Only problem is the distance from Dorado beach and the centre of Playa Blanca, but only a short walk from the marina and Saturday markets.
Will return, but will hire a car next time.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room, the higher the better, with the southern side the best facing onto the public w...

N &T have just returned from a two week break and I too feel compelled to write a report for the 1st time as I have no idea why anybody would want to complain about anything on offer here, great food with a good selection on offer at breakfast and at night. Great service in the bar again with a good range a of drinks and no restrictions on ordering at the bar, We had a reasonable quality room cleaned daily with fresh towels. The location is good too with a paved coastal footpath that leads to a marina ( 10 min walk) here you will find bars, shops and cafe bars and and a market on a Wednesday and Saturday, next about another 10 Mins is a small town with a great beach. All in all a good 4 Star Hotel.

Room Tip: The self catering appartments by the quite pool are a good bet for families, but would recommend the...

Just got back from an 11 night stay at the Iberostar and we had a lovely time a great mix of nationalities, we arrived towards the end of the school hols so there weren't that many engish children but plenty of Spanish and German families it didn't matter because the kids joined in and all the staff spoke a variety of languages anyway. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We booked a family room with SV and from the website was expecting an apartment but we were put into a Junior Suite with a fantastic seaview (room 265) slightly disappointed we didn't get the apartment but the view made up for it. The food in the restaurant was lovely couldn't fault it, there was a great choice every night and they did try and lay on something different each night to cater for all tastes. The restaurant managers couldn't do enough for you and were brilliant with the kids, in fact all the staff were. Beds by the pool were a bit of a nightmare and with every will in the world I don't think you'll ever stop people putting down there towels and saving the beds, so we joined in and you do have to do this before 9am to get a good choice the pool also has black tiles which got very hot around the edge and the jacuzzi pools only seem to operate for a limited time during the day, but if you get fed up with the pool go down to the pontoon jetty at the back of the hotel and jump in the sea or take a little hike over the rocks at the end of the walkway to a beautiful beach part of the papagayo reserve - 20 min walk but well worth it. The animation staff were also brilliant and try so hard with the entertainment and I have to say was actually quite good. Katy was brilliant with the kids at the aqua aerobics everything she was lovely.
The hotel is quite away from the town and there isn't really anything around it except a small bar and supermarket but there is a shuttle bus which runs several times a day but its around 10min walk to the Marina which is lovely and holds a market every Sat & Wed morning but to get into Playa Blanca itself you'd be looking at a good 20 to 30min walk along a lovely coastal path or 3 mins in a taxi for around 3 euro's during the day.
The only negative thing I would say is that the beds in the room were extremely hard just like sleeping on the floor but apart from that we had a really lovely stay and I would consider staying again.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms have the sun in the morning and shady in the afternoon but fantastic views.

travelled here xmas 2010. the hotel was medium sized but it was ideal as not too big to get lost the pools were nippy but once you jumped in you got used to the water. the food was varied buffet style always hot and fresh. the only let down was xmas meal it was more geared up for germans despite the majority of guest being british ( we enquired at desk and 65% british ) . what made the holiday was the animation team who worked really hard with the children during the day and then put on good shows during the evening. the children were actively encouraged to join the shows.. we would go back and recommend it for families wishing to relax whilst not being in a large complex.
