“A fantastic week away”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Iberostar from 17th August for 7 nights as 2 couples and this hotel did not disappoint! We were allocated 2 rooms on the 5th level that offered great views of the pool and the sea.
We stayed on an all inclusive basis and the food in the main restaurant offered a good variety throughout our stay. We only used the snack bar by the pool once for lunch as the food on offer consisted mainly of pizza, chips and toasted sandwiches.
I would happily return to the Iberostar Papagayo, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a pleasant hotel, slightly set back from the main part of a resort, but that offers plenty throughout the day if you want to join in.

We spent 10 Nights at the iberostar Papagayo half board with our 3 children aged 13, 10 and 3.

We were in the family apartments in apartment 83. The apartments are clean and spacious with a small kitchenette area and good size fridge.

I followed the advice from a tripadvisor review and requested an apartment near the smaller children's pool. The hotel agreed and gave us apartment 83. It was very convenient for us and our youngest aged 3 to be able to swim nearby whilst we sat on the sunbeds in our front garden.

The apartments are separated from the main hotel by a short tunnel. It is a fantastic idea having the village feel of an apartment built around the swimming pools. Our youngest children really enjoyed playing with the other guests' children and we made many friends with families from neighbouring apartments.

The food was of excellent quality with and a different theme every night ranging from Mexican, Italian to Japanese. The variety is unbelievable and we ate so much!

The holiday coincided with a double birthday celebration for me and my daughter who were celebrating our birthdays. The hotel arranged a cake (20 euros each) and decorated the tables in the buffet restaurant on both birthday days. The hotel even sent a gift to our room on my daughter's birthday which was a nice touch.

This was our first trip to Lanzarote and we hired a car that was booked online through the CICAR website. For a family of 5, we booked an Opel mareva but upon arrival we were upgraded to an Opel zafira at no extra cost. We visited timanfaya mountain, the caves in the north of the island, jameos del agua and cueva de los verdes. We also did a day trip to fuerteventura by glass bottom boat which I would recommend although you do need good sea legs for the way back!

The car was very useful and helpful for us to get around as a family of 5. CICAR have a simple fuel policy of returning the car with the same amount of fuel. Once again, I only booked with CICAR through trip advisor recommendations so thank you tripadvisor users for the helpful advice. The main motorways are well signposted and easy to follow. However, on route to the hotel from the airport, the sat nav directed us off the main lz3 motorway through the town of Femes who meant going up a very steep and dangerous mountainous road! After this, we only followed the map and would advise avoiding sat navs unless you have checked the route first!

Only negatives were the wifi..poor signal which is not uncommon for the island and the location of the evening entertainment on the 2nd floor. Sunbeds are also always full early on in the main pool which can be a problem.

Overall however, the hotel was fantastic, great location (20 mins walk to the marina rubicon), great food and helpful, hardworking staff. Thanks to Paul on reception for his helpful advice on where to go and getting around. Would we return? Absolutely! In fact, we met many families who were returning for the 2nd and 3rd time.

Thank you iberostar

Finally, my top tips;
- If staying in a family apartment, ask for a ground floor apartment near the small children's pool.

- ask for an extra key card and leave the aircon on when your out to return to a nicely chilled room.

Stayed here for 11 days in August. We picked this hotel having visited pre children and knew there were high standards in place. Lanzarote is a perfect choice for young children as it never gets too hot and the morning cloud means you can go off and do things without being too hot and grumpy. We were in the family apartments which was huge and well located around the small family pool. To be honest this pool needs revamping. My littleboy cut his foot on a tile in baby pool quite badly and I did watch the cleaner scrubbing off mould and brushing it back into the pool one morning as my boy was swimming past. I spent a lot of time in the pool with my baby until hyperthermia set in and it was quite rough under foot. I am picking at straws here as the whole environment was spotless and very well maintained. Always someone tidying up emptying bins, fixing. The entertainment for children was good and this was down to the passion and commitment of the entertainment team. We came away with the starky CD, and a very proud little boy as his Dad had dressed up as Starky for the mini disco. The food was spot on and we all were easily fed. My little boy has many allegies and we never struggled to feed him or our baby girl. The bar and restaurant staff were a credit to the hotel and probably the best service we have ever had. We were AI but the effort was still there in preparing and delivering our order. Impressive how organised the bar was to allow for fast service. Sun bed saving........ Absolutely ridiculous! We never saved any but always got two when we needed them around the small pool. Frequently I moved towels used the bed for the morning or afternoon then put towel back all without the wally who had served them being present. .Hotel really needs to get to grips with this. The big pool you could feel the tension and we saw familes including us sitting on the floor whilst beds with towels on were vacant. Also familes saving many beds. Worst we saw was eight for a family of four two were toddlers too. They had them in two locations for morning and afternoon sun. The only real negative though was check in on arrival. We waited half an hour to check in. Far too long with a baby and four year old after a long journey. Four other familes checked in front of us and it just took forever. In the end my baby started to scream and I did not stop her and a member of staff responded to my death stare. Lots of computer clicking. Then the man who carries bags to your room had a major strop with us as we set off to our room on our own desperate not to have to delay our arrival any longer. He was so rude and I could have left there and then. A few more smiles from reception staff and a bit more customer comes first would not go amiss. However this is a great hotel in a quiet location with lovely families from across europe. We will return

We have just returned from Iberostar Papagayo after our 4th visit here.I won't repeat what the other recent reviews have praised about the hotel and staff apart from agreeing whole heartedly. We went with our 16 year old son and to say there's nothing for this age group is misleading. It just depends what your children like. There were pool activities every day,the most popular as always was water polo.Billie even put on an extra session for the kids on our last day which was officially the no activity day.The older teenagers hung about together all the time and enjoyed the freedom this very safe hotel offers them. We were given a family room which is actually a large apartment which was brilliant. One negative for the management,it really is time the pool was revamped. The furniture may be new but there were a lot of broken tiles which were not only unsightly but also not very safe for bare feet. Having said that I'm sure we will return and anyone booking here will have a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Family rooms are great.

This hotel had fantastic food on offer every day we were there.
The accommodation was good and cleaned everyday. A few minor maintenance issues i.e. shower door cracked, mold and a 'stink' which stayed in the bathroom!!!
The animation team for the children and adults were always EXCELLENT and the kids want to go back for that.
We were staying in the 'family side' of the hotel which had its own large pool and baby pool, but its only a small stroll to the main part for the other pools.
The only downside was the pool bar in the 'family side' didn't open until 12:30pm whilst the main one opened at 10am and the family one didn't offer nearly half as much of the food the other pool bar did. We had sandwiches whilst the other pool bar had hot food.
Cleaning, Restaurant and bar staff were always polite, friendly and helpful, however the reception staff were dismissive and bordering on rude.

We decided to return after a wonderful holiday last year and once again we had a great holiday. The hotel is on the edge of Playa Blanca but it is a lovely area and it is a pleasant walk to marina and resort centre.
My wife and 15 year old daughter enjoyed our 11 night stay the weather was great 30-35 degrees with a pleasant breeze.Food was very good lots of choice, drink quality very good .Hotel is very clean and well run rooms are cleaned daily. All staff including waiters, bar staff all polite and hard working.Met up with friends from last year and was suprised to see how many people came back after last year it was nice to meet up with them all again.Activities were great fun ,well done to Billie,Alex and Ivan for some great laughs.
To sum it up a wonerful hotel with nice touches, great location and fantastic views, friendly people and staff.

Room Tip: Get a sea view if you can.
