We ate here as a family and had a few tapas dishes and two rounds of drinks, most of which were soft drinks. The bill came to 120 euros. We were astounded at the price compared to the other restaurants in the area. I feel we were totally ripped off. I would never go back. It is also difficult to communicate because we speak very little Spanish and they speak very little English. I have a feeling they charged us more because we were tourists.

TXALAKA is 100m away from the seaside at Paseo Marítimo, 240, 08860, Castelldefels, Barcelona

It offers both menu and tapas (the latter in the evening only, I believe)·

It offers mainly Basque cuisine but also local cuisine. The food is very good and is reasonably priced. Good choice of fish, meat, rice, etc.

In the same area there also Argentinian and local restaurants.

Not the best food, although not bad, but the atmosphere is really good and the location makes you feel that you are right where things are happening. The charming gentleman trying to sell his oysters to everyone, the movement of people getting their Bask tapas, and the prime locations where everyone passes to go to the beach, in the relaxed, typical Bask ambience.

The Txalaxa appears and is the busy meeting point along the main drag in Castelldelfels - about a 10 minute walk from the Best Western. The place has 4 or 5 separate areas ranging from the smartly table-clothed for a chique meal out to basketry chairs and benches for the rest. The main attraction is a wealth of well-served tasty tapas. This draws in the portly and well-heeled locals and tourists alike. Draught beer is good and they also serve cider from a height ie from one raised hand with the bottle directly to the glass to get it aerated. Skillful. The rooms are nicely presented as are the tapas. Payment is by counting the sticks - the longer ones with bigger morsels are Euros 1.75 and the smaller one Euros 1.50. You collect the tapas arrayed on a long bar and the waiter counts the sticks to calculate the bill. Well, that's the theory. Our waiter assiduously counted and duly billed the locals. We - obviously foreigners got our sticks removed with a rapid slight of hand. The bill charged was for 22 when we - parsimoniously had just 10 !!!!!!! A bill difference of some euros 20 !!!!!! Being used to the thievery in other climes (Rio) and always a bill checker. I asked for a recount and asked why he did not count our sticks ? No reply... then a feeble, when pressed, apology. Clearly this was not a one-off. So, by all means go to this otherwise great place BUT count your sticks.
