The Spanish village of La Jonquera is only approx 3 miles from the Franco-Spanish border. It is therefore primarily a passing through commercial centre with lots of supermarkets, petrol stations, restaurants and cafes. As a result it is bustling with articulated lorries, French registration cars loaded with people coming over to France to shop and other passing through traffic. Once a year, we drive through France to Perpignan to Spain and back for our holiday and would normally stop at one of the budget hotels just off Peage Perpignan Nord en route. On this occasion, we were very unhappy with the place we stayed coming down, so it was decided to stay in La Jonquera instead on our way back. What a wow experience!
The hotel is not easy to see as it is in a modern block fronted by a public car park, situated above a supamarket and shares the same entrance, it is a different world once you have got into the Reception area. Checking in was efficiently done. Our room was comfortably furnished with a king size double bed and the en suite bathroom was beautifully equipped. All in all, it was well above our expectation in comparison with our previous experience in other budget hotels just across the border. The icing on the cake was the treat of a fantastic, all inclusive, le gran buffet in the restaurant downstairs! We then had a delightful continental breakfast the next day after a good night sleep.
Without doubt this is a place we will definitely return as a regular stop for our trip to Spain. Incidentally, there was free WIFI in our bedroom. Very good value for money!
