We spent a weekend at this beach hotel located near Portonovo in Rias Baixas. The facilit, ies are new and spotless, there is a restaurant, a café and a swimming pool. The bedroom, which cost us 45 euros, was big and even had a balcony looking onto the pool. This made it worth staying there for me, since I love sunbathing in balconies. The hotel is also very close to a couple of good beaches, I would recommend Bascuas, a nudist one. It is within walking distance.
In the morning, after a good night's sleep undisturbed by any noise, we were treated to a very good breakfast buffet (included in the rate): eggs, ham, cheese, jams, fresh bread and croissants, orange juice, the whole lot. If you miss anything else, you are definitely spoilt.
Good weather does not come with the price but it is very likely in the spring or summer!

My wife and I stayed at the Oca Vermar hotel for a week as part of a package holiday in which we were taken on tours of the area for five days, the rest of the time being free. The hotel is set a little back from a relatively quiet minor coastal road, and has excellent views out to sea from the restaurant and the front bedrooms. The back bedrooms have minor distant sea views and look onto a pleasant but moderately-sized swimming pool (not heated and fairly cold during our stay). All the bedrooms at the front have full balconies, while the back bedrooms either have full balconies or a small balcony only deep enough to stand on.
The hotel is quite small (four stories) and the staff were very friendly to us, going out of their way to get to know us and to give us every assistance in planning our ventures in the neighbourhood. It should be noted that the hotel is somewhat isolated and therefore independent travellers might either need a car or need to be happy to take an infrequent bus or a reasonably cheap taxi to the nearest villages of Porto Novo (3 kilometres - very small - few facilities ) or Saxenxo (4 kilometres - more facilities).
There are two beaches within reasonable walking distance without having to walk far along the main coastal road, each around 700 metres from the hotel down a small network of residential lanes starting almost opposite the hotel. Commencing from this same network there is also a marvellous circular walk along the cliff-tops, with magnificant views out to sea, which we discovered after some blunderings - we found no signposts to the walk, which uses field tracks for the most part. The beaches have a mixture of soft sand and rocks: our stay overlapped the months of June and July, and amazingly, while the water was cripplingly cold in the last days of June, it warmed up significantly in the first days of July, the high season (which runs more or less from July to August!)
Our room, and the hotel as a whole, was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The size was adequate, about the norm for a smallish hotel in Europe. The equipment is modern, but although there was a small remote-controlled TV with satellite programs, we found no programs in English. The air-conditioning/heating system was one of the most satisfactory we have found anywhere.
Because of the relative isolation of the hotel, it is impractical to eat elsewhere in the surrounding area without recourse to some means of transport. As compensation, we found the hotel's eating facilties very good on the whole. There was a buffet breakfast with warm food - always bacon and scrambled egg, fruit, pastries, cereals, croissants, bread (with toaster), and the standard ham and cheese slices found in many medium European hotels. After breakfast there was an all-day cafetaria providing drinks and quite a range of Spanish snacks (eg Spanish omelette and a variety of French omelettes) - all at reasonable prices. There was also a separate restaurant room, open at lunch and dinner-time, with a choice of a-la-carte and table d'hote meals. As part of a group, we always had the table d'hote meals, and I noticed that individual travellers who were dining in the room also chose this option.
Regarding the table d'hote meals, we notice a change starting from the first weekend in July. In the evenings prior to that, there was a choice of two first courses and two main courses, plus a choice of sweets. Once the high season started, three choices were provided, the price increased from around 12 Euros to around 16, and the quality seemed to us to improve. Throughout our week, for the first course there was always a choice of shell-fish or similar, while for the second course there was always fish as one choice, since the area is noted for its seafound. Equally there was clearly an attempt to introduce guests, even on the table d'hote menu, to as many Galician dishes as possible during the course of a week. During the first part of the week, however, there were days when the food was a little lacking in substance (thin soup, a veal stew with 3 pieces of veal each the size of a stock cube, spaghetti carbonara with occasion ham pieces the size of a safran thread (or so it seemed to us). Nevertheless, even during these first days our overall opinion of the food was positive (a few 'lows' but otherwise from "satisfactory" to "good"). When the high season days kicked in, our opinion went up to "generally excellent". It should also be noted that, if we or other people we saw found a selection inadequate, the friendly staff were always happy to swap it.
So, in general, our opinion was that this hotel was a clean modern hotel with friendly helpful staff, comparatively isolated without transport, but in a good location for beaches and cliff-top walks, and providing a good taste of Galician fare on a moderate budget.
