I've just spent a few days in Riederalp at Walliser Spycher, a beautiful chalet style hotel. The hotel is conveniently located few meters from the main cable station (Mitte). The room was spacious, clean and quite confortable and had a gorgeous view over the valley and the Matterhorn. The service is personal and friendly: the family ownwers made us feel at home ! The food was very good: we enjoyed very nice breakfast buffets and dinner meals (we chose the half board menu, with 3 main courses and delicious desserts). We had great time in the Aletsch arena area and we hope to return to Walliser Spycher in winter time.

We spent two nights at Walliser Spycher and enjoyed our stay enormously. The hotel is run by a a father and son who were pleasant and helpful. Our room had a breath-taking view of the alps (including the Matterhorn in the distance) and a balcony from which to enjoy it. (Some balconies are shared between two rooms). The room was neat, clean and comfortable and the hotel itself is very 'Swiss' and has a lovely dining room with wood paneling and traditional furnishings.
The staff were enormously friendly and really made our stay that bit more enjoyable. Most spoke good English.
Breakfast is fine and because we were lucky enough to have good weather we were able to enjoy it on the balcony outside the restaurant. The restaurant itself is excellent and really, you could eat there every night and be more than happy (which we did).
The hotel is happy to help with arranging hiking on the Aletsch glacier.
Reideralp itself can only be reached by cable-car and is lovely and peaceful. The hotel is a short downhill walk from the cable-car terminal on arrival, but small electric cars will transport you if you wish.

location is central with easy access to ski-lifts - rooms are basic and clean - welcome could be warmer -although they claim to cater for vegetarians this is stretching it to say the least. Not really good value for money

This is a very well appointed hotel in a unique position. It lies in the centre of a small mountain village, accessible only by cable car.
The traffic in the village is comprised of electric or farm vehicles and pedestrians: a very peaceful location.

The hotel overlooks the Goms valley, so the views from the bedroom balconies and restaurant terrace are superb..snow capped mountains in every direction, including the Matterhorn.

Breakfast on the terrace starts the day well, and an excellent evening meal completes the day.

As mentioned in the previous review, this is a perfect base for visiting the Aletsch glacier either by hiking or using the cable cars
and chair lifts in this and the neighbour village.

We stayed at the Walliser Spycher from 9/14 to 9/16. Our room was booked for us by Alpinehikers as part of our self guided tour. We were in the expansive and very beautiful Stuba suite. (See the attached pictures) The suite and the bathroom were both always clean.

The hotel staff was friendly and the waitresses were also friendly. One of the evenings our waitress only spoke a few words of English and no Italian. We don’t speak German, so we found a common language in Spanish.

We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel both days we were there. The breakfast was the typical European breakfast with muesli, yogurt, bread, meat, and cheese, and was good. The dinner menu was great both evenings.

We were in Riederalp to hike along the Aletsch glacier but there was pouring rain the day we planned on an 8-9 hour hike. Instead we went to the UNESCO World Heritage Site interpretive center at Villa Cassel in the morning and spent the afternoon reading and relaxing in the suite.

We would choose the Walliser Spycher for a return trip to Riederalp.
