Center Parcs de Eemhof

Okay holiday. Aqua Mundo great but very busy due to Dutch bank holiday. Enjoyed the Grill, Italian place best avoided. Shop very expensive and limited in fresh produce. Marina was beautiful and very calm.

Room Tip: Reasonable quality. Views from window were lovely.

We have visted a variety of Center Parcs in Holland, France, Belgium and UK for 25 years and have always been pleased with the product. However this year we rented a "luxurious" VIP waterfront suite at De Eemhof in Holland and were dissatisfied. Apartment had not been properly cleaned prior to arrival, electrical equipment (kettle, dishwasher and fridge) was faulty and after 9 days the fridge had not even been inspected!. Cane dining chairs were splitting. Having visted this Parc previously it was clear to us that it was tired and in need of urgent attention to restore it to previous standard.

We have only been to CenterParcs in the UK before so we did not know what to expect. The apartments at the de Eemhof marina were a pleasant surprise: new, very luxurious and with good views. The village seemed a little older than in the UK and so we felt like we had the best of both worlds - use of all facilities but a very smart place to stay.

Centerparcs De Eemhof was great. Relaxing and enjoyable. The marina apartments are lovely. Our kids loved the jacuzzi bath! Only problem is that there is not enough clear, written info and not all the staff speak English so arranging activities can be a challenge. Much better value and cleaner than UK CP

Have been to centre parcs les bois francs during May half term for the last two years and this year decided to have a change and booked a week in a premium lodge at de emmhof.
Firstly would have to say that at approx 680 euros ( booked well in advance ) for a week this is a great value alternative to a stay in a British centre parcs ( I think a week here would be three times the price) . Easy to get to - a 90 minute drive from the Hook of Holland. The website suggests that the premium villas have been refurbished - this may well be true but the premium offering at de emmhof is some way short of that offered at les bois francs. There are some nice touches - a nestle coffee machine and a second tv in the master bedroom but I could see no obvious external difference between a comfort and premium lodge ( unlike at les bois francs).
Check in was very efficient - we have emailed to say we were arriving on Saturday morning rather than Friday and this had been conveyed to the security lodge.
Our lodge 431 was nicely situated overlooking a small lake and a 5 minute stroll to the Aqua Munda/village centre.
Any parents of small children please beware as almost all villas are situated close to water .
Pros -
plenty of availability for activities.
Aqua Mundo -spotlessly clean ( we witnessed the cleaning programme taking place whilst our children took part in a white water rafting activity and I was very impressed in the thoroughness of the cleaning) and a good range of slides .
Staff generally excellent and fluent in English
Good on site supermarket.

Cons-
No indoor sports facility ( tennis or badminton)
Some of facilities looking a little "tired " / unloved ( eg of 7 pedalos available - 4 had large amounts of water sitting in the foot wells) . Mini golf course showing signs of age
Surrounding area a little uninspiring - Local towns ( to us at least) not the most interesting .
Cottages not as well modernised as at the French park we have been to.

Please be aware that NONE of the local supermarkets ( outside of the part) take MasterCard which caused us some embarrassment - please ensure that you take cash if shopping in any of the local supermarkets.

Stayed at many Center Parcs and really liked this one - superb value for Whitsun Half Term for UK visitors. Stayed in a VIP cottage - not really VIP just nicely decorated - effectively just got bread rolls delivered every morning, no housekeeping. Would go back but stay in the marina next time.
The swimming pool is excellent with new additions of a turbo twister (big slide on a blow up ring) and the Flow Rider - a surfing simulator - this was excellent.
The supermarket was reasonable value, but thought the food in the restaurants was expensive, although very good.
Definatley try the Bistro at the Marina and the Beach Club - not advertised on site as independently owned I would imagine.

We stayed in the VIP suite which overlooks the harbour which we would highly recommend as you can park outside the apartments, the villa is a good size and if you go for a higher flat you have nice views over the harbour (which you can confirm before you go). It also comes with with free wifi for 4 devices (good for our teenage children), it does drop in and out though. You also get 3 rolls per person per day, which we used for breakfast & lunch!
The apartment comes with a sauna which was great however the jacuzzi sounds like you are sitting with a jet plane underneath you. It also has a dolce gusto coffee machine which came with 4 free drinks to try and a good selection of free body lotions in the bathroom
The resort is smaller than most other center parcs, which means it is easier to get around and we were only 5 minutes away from the dome or the shops.
Not sure why some people thought the resort is old, as all the buildings and pool are well maintained and all very tidy.
We only eat at once at the grand cafe which turns into a pizza place, but these were €10-12 each which is fairly standard. The shop is the same price as a convenience store but you can visit an Albert Heijn around 20 minutes away if you want a better selection at cheaper prices.
We prebooked activities and the flow rider is a must for teenagers plus the zip wire across the lake and even the laser quest they enjoyed.
The pool is good fun but busy in the morning but really empties out from 4pm onwards, and is open to 9pm (when we were there).
The other reason we chose this resort is because it is only 45 minutes from Amsterdam and we used a park & ride which was 30 minutes from the resort and then only €8 to park and €2 each for the train into the centre of Amsterdam, which I though was good value (versus going into London).
So we spent one day in Amsterdam which was enough time to see the sites with teenagers.
Overall nice friendly resort with good facilities and friendly staff with plenty to keep teenagers busy, and great for a day trip to Amsterdam.
