My husband and I booked a last minute offer for one night at this hotel. It was chosen as the restaurant accepts restaurant cadeau kaarten. The service in the restaurant was poor but the hotel accommodation and reception staff were lovely.
When we arrived the receptionist was quickly able to inform us that our room was ready despite us being two hours early for check-in. She represented the hotel well with good customer skills, switching smoothly between English and Dutch to explain our arrangement.
Our room was on the first floor with a balcony, which did not supply a view but was not a great concern to us. The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was also a good size with a bath. The beds were very comfortable with extra pillows provided. The only down side was that the room was very warm and stuffy. Opening the door to the balcony provided a little comfort but airco would be something to consider.
The hotel corridors looked a little tired, carpets a little threadbare and walls needing some TLC. The cleaning staff were polite and pleased to receive feedback about their work. We didn't use the swimming pool, tennis or squash court facilities due to time.
Breakfast was a good selection of hot drinks, juices, bread and rolls, cereals, cooked breakfast items and traditional cold meats and cheese.
The restaurant was clean and provided a pleasant ambience. The dinner menu was varied but only offered one vegetarian dish. The staff were polite and helpful when faced with customer queries. I found their service rather slow, taking a long time to bring drinks to the table and was appalled at their lack of ability to multi-task. Frequently they were in an area providing drinks or food and walked away empty handed despite a need for glasses and plates to be cleared from adjacent tables. While I recognised there was no great hurry to turn the tables over for following customers, pride in the appearance of the restaurant would have earned a better review.
We would visit this hotel again as it was a great spot to visit the lighthouse, beach and windmill from. Bike hire was also very accessible from the hotel. I only hope the waiting staff can work on their skills to make the restaurant a more pleasing experience.
