We took this hotel because there were no other decent places available when we visited Ameland. In short: it's overpriced. Most of the rooms are in this metal/fiberboard annexe, which is not really soundproof: we could hear our neighbours on all sides (by which I mean we could literally word-for-word hear the conversation going on in the next room). And we were staying in one of the 'superior' rooms.
The room itself was nice, big enough and with a small kitchenette and an okay bathroom. There was a small porch area overlooking the 'breakfast garden' that was nice too, but also quite noisy. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast itself was good - continental style. The hotel is close to the city centre and there is a nice foresty/lakey area close by where you can walk or take your kids swimming.
Would be a really nice hotel if it were about 100 Euros a night cheaper, as it is, it is overpriced.

Room Tip: Rooms 28-31 (lower floor) are at the end of the hallway: less noise from the kitchen in the morning.

This was our first time using this property on Ameland. When booking on booking.com (You can only book via Online travel agents in this hotel) I requested a room with a terrace. I received a friendly email from the hotel to confirm this which I appreciated.

Upon arrival the lady at the front desk was quite rude to the lady who was checked in, I found this a bit uncomfortable to see. When we were checking in she said that our room would only be ready at 3pm. She had 5 other rooms available but not ours. I felt this was poor already.

Coming back at 3pm we received the key to our room. We were pleasantly surprised by entering the room. It has been nicely refurbished and the Jura coffee maker is a big big plus. Also the minibar is of very decent size.

However then we noticed the extreme noise due to very poor isolation. We could hear other people checking in and reception staff answering phone calls. Also when people would use the stairs our furniture was shaking. I immediately went to the desk to express my concern. The lady told me sorry but we are full so we cannot move you. I then asked for the manager who basically said the same.

At night indeed it became very noisy when intoxicated people came back to the hotel. We could not sleep till around 3am and have called the emergency number of the hotel to send someone to calm people down and to create silence.

When checking out I once more shared how disappointed I was with my stay. The lady told me it was out of their control that it was so noisy. As a compensation I received a voucher for 25 euros to use for a next visit to this hotel. Obviously we will never use this and we left disappointed.

I would really recommend to avoid using this hotel as the staff and paper thin walls just make it unpleasant.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room when making the booking IF you want to stay here!

We stayed here at Christmas 2013. The weather was great so we really enjoyed going to the Island. We took an early boat so we arrived well before check-in time. Welcome was really friendly. In the afternoon when the rooms were ready we checked in. The rooms are modern and clean and have a nice atmosphere, though some were a bit small, whereas our room had a really small bathroom. We really liked the coffee and tea facilities in the room, great coffee! Breakfast is great with an abundance of fruit, freshly baked bread, bacon and eggs and fresh orange juice as well as lots of other items. We had a great stay.

Room Tip: Groundfloor rooms may be a bit noisy.

Easy to find since it's 10 min walk from the boat and located in the center of Nes.In our room the bed was upstairs which gave the room nice atmosphere.Downstairs there's a fridge and a coffeemachine with beans for the coffee lovers. We had also a small balcony and a bathtub.Breakfast was good and the service too.Only thing, the glasses in our cupboard were pretty dirty,so we asked the housekeeper to give us some new ones and so she did,but they were also dirty,Anyways there was a sink to wash them ourselves.

Really a nice and modern hotel in the center of Ness. Rooms are modern and clean with a big tv screen. The bathroom is somehow a little small comparing to the room. Good breakfast! Big plus is the coffee and tea maker on every room with excellent coffee! We only missed a hotel lounge a little bit. We had a really good stay!

Room Tip: We had booked a comfort room, but the bathroom was very tiny. For € 10,- a night we got a Deluxe roo...

The van Heekeren empire has really commercialised the island, from the Sunset Cafe (this is not Santa Monica!) to the anachronous Rixx restaurant. The welcome was one of 'would you like to upgrade your room' rather than 'have you come far' or 'welcome back'. The rooms are functional, bed comfortable and clean bathroom. However, I would happily lose half the television for double the warmth of atmosphere. Come on guys, this costs nothing to improve, ask your receptionist from this morning (Monday 1st April) how to connect to guests, she is your best asset. Final piece of advice, please ask your cleaning staff to give attention ot the patio areas outside the ground floor rooms - cigarette ends, used ashtrays and general detritus are not nice to sit amongst whilst enjoying the fresh air!

Room Tip: Ground floor, we had #29, on the end with a small patio and no passing people,

The hotel is renamed: "van Heeckeren".
It is a nice hotel; fully equipped rooms. Enormous (Smart) TV screen in the room. Very nice breakfast. No lunch or dinner services, which is no problem at all. Many restaurants in the area.
Bathroom is small but convenient (shower and bath).

Room Tip: We had room 24 on the ground floor; a little bit small, but convenient.
