“Average place; good for a few nights”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013 via mobile

Het Veluwse Bos is a rather nice hotel. Our room (107) was fine, with a nice bathroom. You can park your car for free at the private parking space next to the hotel. The hotel staff is not unfriendly, but a bit impersonal. A few points that can be improved: the matresses are not firm (but we had a good night sleep nonetheless), the shower turns hotter or colder sometimes and in the shower is a rather sharp edge on a part of the floor. Sleeping in may be a challenge; the hotel is a bit noisy, you can clearly hear tv's from other rooms or hear people depart. All in all: good for a night (or a few), but don't expect too much.

OK atmosphere lobby and friendly but rather unexperienced staff who had a hard time managing the place which was not busy at all. Drinks were OK, snacks were OK, the bill in the end was OK. We wanted to have dinner, but the menu was too limited with nothing of our liking so we didn't stay. One note: the place is suffering from a lot of flies and wasps in the summer, inside and outside.

The room, in the annexe, was very small, barely enough space to walk round the bed, and insufficient storage for clothes.
It was stuffy, even in the cool weather in May, and with the heating off.
The bathroom was under the eaves, and there was no proper shower. Kneeling in the bath is not a serious option. The WC was directly opposite, and in touching distance, of the not-very-opaque glass door. I was not sharing the room fortunately, but not everyone wants to use this appliance in full view of anyone else. The cold water tap ran in a pathetic dribble, not even enough to clean teeth.
The bar and restaurant were quite reasonable, and the breakfast menu was varied, with excellent coffee from the machine.

Room Tip: Avoid the annexe like the plague.

We went to this restaurant to have a family christmas diner. It had 5 courses, but 3 of them were not good. Luckily the main cours was very nice. That was a dish with wild deer. The rest of the course was average and the risotto was very bad!

This Fletcher Hotel I suppose is a good one for some people, but we found the lighting in the room not enough, with very little space to unpack our suitcases. The breakfast was fantastic. The other challenge we had was that the Province were working on the road next to the hotel, so we had challenges to access the hotel. We would have preferred that the hotel share this information beforehand, because we nearly damaged our car when trying to get into the parking space. But this hotel is close the the Veluwse Bos - so I suppose when you are on vacation, this would be an excellent spot.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a low cost package trip to the Floriade exhibition near Arnhem. The room we had was tiny and talking to other residents their rooms were similar. Obviously recently renovated it was clean and modern. The shower room and toilet was much to small and I didn't care much for a glass door to the toilet either! The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. We did not have dinner at the hotel, preferring instead to try other restaurants to get to know the locality, but those that did found it to be a little more expensive than other establishments but the quality was good.

The locality was very good. Roads and buildings were clean and well decorated with very colourful gardens. Obviously a well off area. Many restaurants/bars and hotels indicated it was a tourist area. The hotel hire good bicycles and there are many dedicated cycle tracks. Worth trying to get around the locality rather than a car.

The best value eating place was De Smittenberg hotel by the traffic lights. The best bars were in Dorpstraat near the small supermarket. Everyone exceptionally friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room. All rooms are quiet.

We have just returned fron a weekend stay at Hotel Het Veluwse Bos with a coach party visiting Floriade 2012. All the party thoroughly enjoyed our stay and not one person complained about the accomodation given. Some of the rooms and bathrooms are small but no worse than cabins and facilities on board cruise ships and hotel rooms are for sleeping as far as I am aware. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are immaculate. The hotel supplied special menus for three evenings at a special rate. The food was superb. Some members chose to walk into the village as an alternative finding good hostelry in various locations. Breakfast was very good with a choice of hot and cold food, as much as wanted. It should be noted that the young waiting staff were exceptional, quick and efficent and meeting everyones requirements with a warm smile. Every single person said that they would have no resrevation in recommending this hotel. Thank you to all the staff and we look forward to possibly paying another visit in the future.

Room Tip: Not too near to the road if possible if you like to sleep with the wondow open. The rooms are doubl...
