OK not the cheapest but I promise you will enjoy the ambiance of the rooms, the bar, lounge and dining area. Very well kept, maintained and decorated. But also all staff are friendly and helpful. Run like a family hotel. Everything is first class here. Breakfast better than home. Fantastic bicycle opportunities to small villages and national forest The Veluwe. I really enjoyed my stay and I certainly will come back!

Room Tip: any room is wonderful. I saw 2 and each room is in different colonial style.

This place has an incredible colonial ambiance, something that has been constructed (and inherited) with attention to detail. Not only is the service the best I've had in the Netherlands, people truly make sure that you are enjoying your stay and are genuinely interested in telling the history of the place and it's ties to South Africa. The rooms are well decorated and tastefully luxurious. Same goes for the excellent whisky lounge and the amazing restaurant. We first had booked a table for the first night, but it was so good we ate there the second night as well. See my review for restaurant Engelenburg separately. Location is perfect for exploring the Hoge Veluwe national park and the city of Arnhem.

Room Tip: We stayed at the colonial building which has the rooms numbered in 200s. Very nice place.

Stayed at kasteel Engelenburg for a couple of days. Total BLISS. Beautiful setting, stunning old castle in magnificent grounds, lovely golf course. The suite that we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable, even had the pleasure of a jacuzzi!! Most relaxing. Dinner, which comprised of a 5 course Set menu, was simply divine, each plate was a master piece and heaven to the taste buds. Compliments to the chef and his team once again. To top it all off, the staff are all so very pleasant, kind and compassionate. Felt very special at all times. Excellent service throughout. Thank you to Johan Agricola and his wonderful team for a most memorable stay. See you soon and be rest assured we will tell all to come and visit your exquisite property.

Castle in the woods, giving you that instant relaxed princessy feeling.
Good restaurant with beautiful view, excellent staff, high ceilings and candeliers.
Great beds too.
Total indulgence: the 'serre suite' - you have your own outside jacuzzi facing the woods.

Room Tip: serre suite, room 315 - jacuzzi outside on your own private terrace

We have spent just one night in this wonderfull place but we had an excelent time in this nice castle surounded by forests and a golf course.
We have booked a night including a 4 course dinner. The dinner was excelent, a dinner that we apreciate as a gastronomic one. The wines, many South Africans, were very good also.
The room had a South African design, spacious and very confortable with lake view.
Would return there.

We love this hotel! The castle it is very nice situated an has got an own golf course. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the culinair food in the restaurant (overlooking the castle moat). The personal service is of a high standard and the rooms are nice decorated. We will come back to Holland and stay again at Engelenburg

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cape Dutch coach house

I was generally quite dissapointed as I was hoping for old world luxury but got serviceable insted. The main house buliding is very beautiful and well worth visiting. Also there was a wedding going on when we were there and it kinda took over the whole place.

The guests rooms are housed in the orangery and carriage house buildings adjacent to the main building. But theres a large stock of umbrellas so you don't get too wet. Rooms are quite compact and out of date with a general air of shabbiness and neglect. The bathroom are spacious but the towels are old and threadbare.

The house is set in a golf course so the grounds are pretty to look at but you aren't allowed to walk around them which I was very disapointed at. The hotel is very pet friendly and there is a little bit of a wood behind the hotel for walkies. There isn't that much close by the national park isnt too far to drive to.

We didn't eat in the hotel restuarent as it was very expensive and the menu slim but we did sit and have dessert outside of the patio which I would recommend. The dessert was lovely as was the sunset! 2x coffee, 2x dessert = 25euros. Make sure you make a reservation for the restuarent in advance as it is usually full. There is also a small lounge stuffed with whiskys from around the world to try.
All the staff we encountered were poliet and friendly.
There is a large unsecured car park.
