Another fabulous week at Coldehove!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Apr 2011
This is the second time we have stayed at Coldenhove and we never want to go home! We have two young children who are kept constantly busy with all the various activities available to them. We have stayed at several Landals and this certainly has the best indoor play area which our boys never get bored with. There is also some great outdoor playgrounds, a petting zoo and a bowling alley. There is a pool which is fun but probably most suitable for younger children rather than teens. The restaurant is good with menus suitable for adults and children and the service is excellent as is the case throughout the park.

The accommodation is fairly basic but seemed to be pretty clean and well maintained.

There is so much to in the local area that you are spoilt for choice. We spent a day at Alpenheul which is a unique experience and definitely to be recommended. We also always visit a park in Apeldoorn called Malkenschoten. There is so much to do such as a boating lake, crazy golf, animals and lots of playgrounds. At approx 25 euros for a family of four, it represents excellent value for money. On previous visits we have also spent a day at Burgers Zoo, which is an amazing place.

Our kids cannot wait to go back to Coldenhove and are asking to go back in the summer. As it has been such a relaxing time for us as parents, they'll probably get their wish!

We stayed at Coldenhove in October 2009. Good location. We took our 3 year old and 22 month old. There was a lot for them to do. The large indoor swimming pool was very clean and safe. The indoor play area is huge with bouncy castles, ball pools and plenty of climbing frames and slides. Lots of seating for parents to sit with a cup of coffee.
Large outdoor play area and even a few goats to feed.
Small Spar shop on site which has just about anything you would require for supplies.
Small launderette on site (tokens available from reception).
The Bungelow (a 6E) was nicely positioned amongst the trees, affording a lot privacy. well laid out. The full kitchen stated isn't really a full kitchen. Four gas rings and a microwave. No oven or grill/toaster. The beds are really comfortable. The bathroom/toilet seem to have a slight odour coming from the drains.
The only real negative about Landal Coldenhove is that we felt the bungalows could have been cleaner. It almost seemed that it hadn't been done at all.
All in all, I would go back again. We really enjoyed it.

We have stayed at Landal Coldenove twice since 2007. We live in the UK and usually get the Hull-Rotterdam overnight ferry. It can be pricey unless you book early but for us, it beats having to drive to Harwich (7hrs) whereas we are only 3hrs drive from Hull. We have a meal on board and treat it as part of the holiday and the children love the cabin bunks.

The first time at Coldenhove (Easter 2007 ) we stayed in a 'basic' lodge at which was very small and very basic facilities, however, it was clean and had obviously been recently upgraded with new modern furnishings. It was ideal as a base for touring the area where there are so many things to do. We were not disappointed with Landal in general, the week prior to this we had stayed at Landal Dwergter Sand in northern Germany, which was another lovely (very very quiet) site. Coldenhove is one of the larger Landal sites however you would not know this, all the lodges are set in the woods, the older style ones are detached with plenty of space between them. It was very quiet and peaceful, with lots of rabbits running around.

During this first visit to Coldenhove we checked out the rest of the site and had a look at the deluxe lodges and so for our next holiday here (Easter 2008) we booked a 6 person deluxe lodge (these are semi detached), simply for a bit more space and to have a better grade of facilities (for instance, in the 'basic' lodge you do not get an oven, but in the luxury lodges you do). In the luxury lodges you get a sauna, sunbed and a jacuzzi bath, as well as previously mentioned, an oven, a toaster and a Senseo coffee machine. They are much newer and so the decor is modern.

Both times we have paid extra to have the beds made up on arrival, this is worth it after travelling! You also get a discount if you have children under a certain age or adults over a certain age. It certainly works out very good value for money even with the ferry when compared to something like CenterParcs in the UK.

The staff on reception are extremely pleasant and are a credit to the company, their English is second to none.

The swimming pool is good, clean, has one small slide and is split into areas, there is an area where you can do 'proper swimming' as such away from where the slide is. There is also a smaller, shallower pool for babies. Changing area is large and clean. On site there is a petting zoo, an outside play area which is situated by a restaurant with outside seating. As parents this means we can enjoy a nice relaxing coffee whilst watching the children play. Inside there is an indoor play area, ball pit etc which is free to use. There is also a bowling alley. We have never used any of the clubs or paid activities so can't comment on them.

The general atmosphere on site is calm and quiet.

Things to do in the surrounding area include:
Burgers Zoo - pricey to get in but worth the money, its a full day out and it's excellent. Fantastic play area for the kids!
Apenheul (monkeys on the loose!) is another good day out, again quite expensive to get in though, but an experience to be done at least once.
The Open Air Museum near Arnhem is fabulous, you can also spend a whole day in here and is definitely worth a visit. Don't forget to try the 'Poffertjes' at the cafe in the market area.
Hoge Veluwe national park. Here you can 'borrow' white bicycles for free (or you can rent tandems/trikes for a small fee). Lots of traffic free bike paths, lots of nature to see, stop and take in the surroundings, take a picnic and spend the whole day here.

Arnhem itself is quite a nice town, we normally park in the 'Centrum' car park which is underground underneath the train/bus station. We walk into Arnhem about 3 mins walk from here, you can buy huge 'Stroopwafels' from a shop in the centre, then don't forget to visit HEMA which is a great shop for bits and bobs, believe me you won't leave without buying something ;) There is also a cafe on the top floor of Hema which we almost always stop at for a coffee and cake!

To conclude, we really like this site for the Arnhem area, where there is much to see and do. The Netherlands itself is quite a small country, so staying here you are quite central to be able to travel further afield if you wish, e.g Amsterdam or to theme parks.
We have also stayed at Landal Dwergter Sand (Germany), and Landal Beach Resort Ooghduyne. Our experience of all Landal sites have been positive.

The holiday parks in Holland had been recommended to us by a friend as an excellent alternative to the expensive option of Center Parcs. The Landal website appealed as it was easy to negociate and very informative so we booked a week in August 2008 for two families with the ages in the group ranging from 80 to 6 - the challenge was on to see if the park could entertain everyone. We weren't dissappointed!
The travel across from Harwich to the Hook of Holland was very easy and Landal Coldenhove was just over 2 hours drive from the ferry port. Set in a national park and mainly forest the site is lovely - very similar set up to Center Parcs in Thetford and Nottingham, just a bit smaller and more basic in it's facilities.
We were dissappointed with the cleanliness of the villas and the cooking facilities were basic - no oven or toaster, just a gas hob. However both our villas were close to each other and the main facilities so that worked well for us with kids.
The park has a lovely family feel and the facilities certainly did keep teenage boys, little girls and weary parents & grandparents occupied for the whole week. The pool is great but much smaller than Center Parcs pools and lacking the water slide/flume but all the kids were very happy with it.
Where this park shone compared to Center Parcs was that it offered activites for the kids throughout the day that could last from 1 hour to a morning and could be as simple as making a key ring in the art room to pony rides, climbing on the climbing wall and orienteering. These were all very cheap 3 - 5 euros and the staff were so good with the kids. All staff spoke fluent english much to our relief!
There are bikes and carts to hire for use around the site and there are numerous bike trails around.
Amsterdam is an easy day trip from Arnhem on the train and the zoo nearby is one of the best we have ever visited.
In summary basic and some would say dirty accommodation but the facilities, location and overall friendly feel to the site made up for this. Recommended for families who want the Center Parcs style holiday in a foreign country without the price tag.

Landal Rabbit Hill is an holiday park not far from Apeldoorn. Cottages (or bungalows, as they call them) are scattered around the woods, so you'd never figure out that there are over 300 of them. Facilities include a minimarket where you can buy just anything you need at reasonable prices, a very nice indoor swimming pool with water attractions also suitable for toddlers (there is also an oudoor pool but the weather was quite chilly for us to go and try it!), a miniclub full of activities for children and several well. equipped and maintained play areas all around.
As usual, we rented bikes there and spent hours ciclying in the woods.
I'd really recommend this place to any family with young children as they are going to have the time of their lives.
I can't wait to go back!!!
