tIf you have taken the trouble to visit Amsterdam and its Van Gogh Museum, this is a complimentary visit. The K-M has the second largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world. Luckily, there was a Georges Seurat exhibition going on at the same time. This is a trip for a private guide as it is an hour from Amsterdam. The collection is impressive including many of Vincent's early work and the work of his contemporaries. The setting is serene and the sculpture garden is peaceful and lovely (we had rain). We couple this with a visit to the Het Loo for a wonderful day. We booked a guide through toursbylocals.com for door to door service. If you get the Museumkart, both venues are free.

This is a must-be-seen museum in a somewhat off the beaten path location, but like the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, it is more than worth the detour. Founded by Helene Muller in 1935, designed by Henry van de Velde, it has the world's second largest collection of van Gogh paintings - including The Potato Eaters. She was a major collector of the period and wanted to show the arc of painting from the 1850's through the early twentieth century - and she managed to do it on a great scale.

Go between now and September 8, 2014, to see an amazing exhibition of Georges Seurat's work - 23 of his 50 paintings, and many of his stunning drawings. Can he really have been only 31 when he died in 1891?! If Seurat will never be in my top list of painters whose work I always go back to - I certainly have a new-found admiration for what he accomplished in such a short time. In the brief period from 1882 to 1891, he turned the art world upside down, creating pieces that will be admired for centuries to come. Do include this exhibition on your list of must-sees this summer.

The park immediately around the museum is dotted with marvelous sculptures, from Rodin to Oldenburg. And the great park surrounding the whole place has many opportunities for diversion, from hikes to bicycle rides and more.

Don't pass this up - it is an easy trip from Amsterdam and you will not be disappointed.

This is a wonderful museum in a lovely setting, Hoge Veluwe National Park. The museum provides a rare opportunity to see so many of Van Gogh’s early paintings, and the sculpture garden offers a wide array of world-renown artists’ works. As voiced in another review, my only complaint is that you have to pay a hefty park fee to get to the museum, and, because of a downpour, we had to drive to the museum, incurring a charge to park our car, which I found unseemly. Otherwise – definitely worth a detour on a Netherlands vacation.

Kröller-Müller has the second largest collection of works from Vincent van Gogh - this is a hidden treasure in the midst of the national park Hoge Veluwe. You can rent bikes, or bring your own, to ride through the park to get the museum - or you can drive into the park as well.

We have been here several times, to see an extensive collection that goes well beyond van Gogh. The outdoor art collection is really compelling to experience. The kids have so much to do here. The are restaurants in the area that have nice outdoor seating nearby playgrounds.

Get outdoors, art and family time all in a great day in one of the national treasures of the Netherlands.

Fantastic museum... Even in the pouring rain its was a great day out. The surrounding park is beautiful and the free bicycles are a great way to get around.
The artwork is great and the gardens are really worth the detour!
