Unfortunately, I feel this was not for me. I prefer a larger mixture of media and art forms myself. There are many rooms and many works of art by many very famous painters...just not my cup of tea. I did enjoy a couple of the larger sculptural pieces that were outside, and the bicycle ride from the parking lot to the museum. What I enjoyed most at the museum was the wonderful lunch they served in their dining cafe. The food was especially tasty. I visited here with an art major who was enthralled with many of the original works. I would suggest you check their website and see if this is a place that would justify the entry fee for your personal enjoyment. Not a place I would spend money to go to again...again- just my honest and personal preference.

This museum is a must for the van Gogh lover. It's the largest public collection of van Gogh in the world and thus an occasion to actualy see those works we have all learned to love from reproductions and art calenders. Just as impressive in many ways is the extensive Seurat and pointillist collection which, for this visitor at least, made me revise my opinion of late impressionism. Superb! An unexpected and extra bonus is the large and beautiful park With more than forty kilometers of bike paths. Ideal for a picnic after a tour of the museum.

In this vast park there are 1500 white bikes. Just take one and go. When you get to where you want, leave the bike and pick up another when you want to move on. Incredibly democratic and stress free. The Museum is well laid out both inside and the outdoor exhibits. There are 3 entrances to the park and the museum is about 3km from the Otterlo entrance. We came in via the southern entrance and enjoyed a relaxing 11km ride to the museum and café.

This is a great place to visit. Even if not a particular art lover, seeing his paintings you cannot fail to be moved. It is possible to imagine what sort of mood the great man was in when he painted each painting.

The parkland is wonderful and so peaceful. The sculptures are well worth seeing and it is a good idea to hire a cycle to get round on a beautiful day. The food available to purchase is pretty good so don't bother to carry a picnic around.
Although primarily Van Gogh there are also other painters works on view which are equally pleasing.

About an hour-and-a-half out of town, but very much worth the trip. Great half day: See the paintings, have lunch (surprisingly good), walk through the lovely modern sculpture garden and ride a bike around the grounds. Really shouldn't be missed during a visit to Amsterdam.
