This is a comfortable guest house hotel on the edge of the traditional area of Arcen and close to the river. The rooms are a bit old-fashioned, but spacious and clean. There is ample free parking and a good restaurant.
I didn't like their habit of putting out the breakfast plates on tables the night before, but otherwise the restaurant was fine. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
This is a good base for cycling holidays and is only fifty yards from the River Mass.

We stayed here for 3 days (2 nights) in August 2012. It turned out to be an ideal location to combine a visit to the Floriade exhibition in Venlo (which was within biking distance) with some bike tours along the Maas river.
They have an excellent restaurant which is worth the stay and breakfast is very fine as well.
Unfortunately, we had an outside room, to be entered via the restaurant terrace, and as the weather was nice (for which one can't complain), the terrace was fully booked untill quite late in the evening ...

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms along the restaurant terrace in summer times.

We have just spent 3 days at this hotel and could not fault it. The hotel staff speak very good English, German and Dutch and possible other languages as well and the staff were all very helpful and polite. We had a lovely room and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent and we booked half board and really enjoyed the evening meals. In our opinion this is a very good hotel which spends a lot of attention to detail and is very good value. The hotel is situated in the heart of Arcen which is a lovely small village with lots of character and cycle paths and is an excellent location to stay for visits to Floriade.

The hotel is in the centre of the pretty village of Arcen, near a river and within walking distance of the superb Kasteeltuinen (Castle Gardens) which garden lovers should make a point of seeing.

Our room (number 21) was situated on the first floor of the main hotel building overlooking the garden and we had no problems with noise - I believe that problems with "thin walls" may be restricted to the ground floor annexe next to the rear gardens, as the main building is well soundproofed.

The two-night package including evening meals, breakfast and entry to the Floriade was excellent value. The towels and bathroom fittings were nothing exceptional but everything was clean and reasonable for a mid-range hotel.

Evening meals were very good though the wait between courses was unacceptably long the first night, with half an hour between each course. However, I mentioned this to the waitress and I was told the delay was because they like to give guests a chance to relax between courses. Maybe worth bearing in mind if, like us, you are tired after a long drive and just want to get to bed! The following night we experienced no such delays, proving it is always best to let the hotel know and give them a chance to fix it if something isn't as you would like it. The food itself was absolutely delicious.

Breakfast starts at 8am and is buffet-style continental plus bacon and scrambled eggs. The second morning the latter were not ready until 8.20 and we had almost finished, so we didn't bother with it, as we had to be away and out of the car park early as the streets and hotel car park were going to be closed for the "Asparagus Fair" at 9.00am.

Overall not perfect, but close enough to merit a 5 out of 5.

Room Tip: Main hotel does not have any problems with thin walls!

On a family trip to Floriade, we wanted something close but in a smaller quieter location than Venlo. Typically we like smaller, querky hotels that are different to big mainstream chains and Hotel de Maasparel fitted the bill. We had 2 rooms set in the small but lovely gardens. Rooms were both a good size but quite different to each other. One had 2 walls of windows and was very bright and summery while the room next door had one very small window and was quite dark. The gardens were a delight to have outside the room but i would agree with other comments that the walls between the bathrooms were very thin and conversations as well as bathroom sounds good easily be heard!
Breakfast is set in a lovely breakfast room, good selection but missing a toaster! Resturant looked lovely and seemed very popular in the evenings but unfortunately it only had 1 vegtarian option and also seemed a bit expensive.
Overall I liked the hotel and would recommend for those wanting something different to a big chain hotel.

Room Tip: Garden Rooms, No 7 had the best view and lots of windows
