“A magical weekend”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

We booked the hotel for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday 7th and 8th June to celebrate my wife's big birthday with friends and family. We were blessed with wondeful weather which was the icing on the cake for a magical weekend. The staff, the setting and the gardens make it a
great place to visit. Pentillie organised a dinner for 19 on the Saturday which was 5 star, terrific food in a terrific setting.

Room Tip: If you can, try and get a room with a river view

My husband and I stayed at Pentillie castle on our wedding night. It was excellent in every way. The room was very comfortable and the meals were delightful. I loved the grounds - we went for a walk the next day accompanied by the family's dogs who were our tour guides! The family were very nice and made us feel at home immediately. The whole experience of staying here was very special. I would recommend it very highly.

The castle and gardens are a wonderful place to visit, the history is also an added bonus. Our room faced the river, with wonderful views, and the room was excellent, and the bathroom was large and well appointed. The staff were great and so welcoming, the food was marvellous. Yes it was a bit more expensive but was well worth it.

Room Tip: Ensure that you make the effort to go to the Mausoleum, and also the bath house. Also ask for a room...

A beautiful estate with lots of history. A wonderful place to relax by a great fire, or enjoy long walks in the many different gardens and along the River Tamar. The owners and all who work there are absolutely wonderful.Excellent amenities, charming estate and beautiful countryside.
They willingly share great restaurants or places to visit. A beautiful estate that is warm and open - with owners with incredible hospitality, humor and fun. A great visit. Thank you.

We would like to say thank you very much for opening up your beautiful gardens and to doggie people - we would never have been able to experience your beautiful gardens if we could not bring our dogs as we live too far away. We do hope that all the doggies behaved themselves - and there were a lot, nothing like a baptism of fire . We also hope that all the owners behaved themselves as well! The tea was lovely too with a wonderful view.

Thank you for your comments on the recent open day. It was a beautiful afternoon which always helps, and all the doggies and their owners seemed to be very well behaved, and to enjoy themselves too. Thank you for making the trip all the way from Hayle, and we hope to see you and your four-legged friends back at Pentillie in the future.
Kind regards, Sammie Coryton

We were lucky to see Pentille castle featured on Caroline Quinton,s TV programme on Cornwall and booked straight away. All the rooms are individual with their own names. They are all exquisitely decorated with beautiful ensuite bathrooms. The icing on the cake is the interaction that the owners have with their guests, warm and friendly and encouraging everyone to treat the castle as home.
We were there when they held a reunion for "The Pentille Babies" which is all the babies that were born at the castle in the 2nd World War due to the bombing in Plymouth. We met some lovely "babies" even a lady from Australia who flew over to see where she had been born and try and trace some of her family! Although not old enough to be a Pentille Babe, by the end of the day I wish I had been as there were so many stories and camaraderie amongst the 30/40 that attended the reunion. Ted, the owner who inherited the Castle, gave a brilliant talk and presentation on the history of the Castle, which was not only very funny but informative and interesting.
There are some amazing walks within the extensive grounds and this accommodation is for anyone that loves peace and tranquility, with luxury accommodation, good food along with wonderful hospitality from the hosts. Thank you we had a brilliant weekend.

We visited Pentillie Castle on one of its "Open Days". Set in the most stunning location overlooking the River Tamar (which divides Cornwall & Devon, Pentillie has been restored & is still being renovated to its former glory.
The gardens are vast, though not formal they are pleasant to stroll through.
It is however, the views that make Pentillie a "must visit" location, from the meandering glimpses of the river to the magnificent panoramic views across to Dartmoor they are truly breathtaking.
There were snacks available in the form of delicious cakes & traditional Corrnish cream teas. The refreshments were somewhat haphazard as one of the ladies near us remarked that she'd been charged the same for her rather small square of lemon drizzle cake as her friend had been for her very large piece!! There was no cash register & the lady taking the refreshment money wasn't very accurate as we overpaid by £2!! However, we felt the added "donation" would go towards the upkeep of the castle & grounds!!!!
Dogs on leads were allowed in our our visit but, it was on a trial basis. There are toilets around the grounds although in some parts they are quite a distance. Also, the pathways are very uneven & in places steep so not recommended if you have mobility problems. personally, I'd be happy to sit on the terrace & admire the views!
There is a short history on a loop system in one of the sheds, although not comfortable it was very interesting. Maybe the narrator (who owns the house) could have made an attempt to sound more interesting as he sounded distinctly fed up!
The venue can be booked for weddings & would make a beautiful location. It also hosts luxury B&B, pop up restaurants, theatre productions & other events.
I'd thoroughly recommend a visit to Pentillie Castle, it certainly has one of the best views in the country.

Room Tip: We didn't stay at the venue as it was an open day for the castle & gardens. Although, I'...
