As for our stay at Pentillie I can only insist on what an amazing job they have done and how much we admired the castle and grounds. Living in an old country house myself I can truly appreciate the huge amount of work and detail they have made to get it just right and to make guests feel so much at home in great style and yet at the same time with comfort and good taste. I can honestly say that I have never stayed in such a top quality castle/country house hotel where they have thought of everything without being too fussy nor selling themselves too cheap either. The furnishings, the decoration , the atmosphere, the finishings and of course the setting are all in total harmony. Such a discreet and professional service from the staff and the chicest breakfast ever. All of the bedrooms have a unique personal touch with only the best linen and big bright bathrooms. The fireplace is always ready to be lit if you fancy a cosy read , a cup of tea or a little night cap!
This is the best place in the west country to discover East Cornwall, Dartmoor and of course the stunning Tamar Valley with all of its beauty and history.

Room Tip: The River views are worth the extra. To soak in your bathtub and look over the woodlands and river.

We stayed 2 nights for my husbands birthday at the beginning of april 2014. We went on the garden walk which was beautiful and really interesting. Fantastic location and very friendly hosts which makes the stay really enjoyable. Recommend 100%. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Bedrooms and en-suites are super size and the furnishings are excellent.

We stayed at Pentillie Castle in May 2014 as part of a group of friends who took the whole house (10 bedrooms). It is well situated overlooking the Tamar and within easy reach of several NT houses and Plymouth.

The house has been beautifully refurbished to a very high standard in a comfortable classic modern English Country House style, in other words with lovely fabrics, antique furniture, thick carpets upstairs and wooden floors and rugs downstairs. There are log fires in the two sitting rooms, squashy sofas and an honesty bar.

There are no telephones in the rooms (hurray) but mobile reception is OK and there is free Wi-Fi.

The bedrooms are a good size, well lit, sensibly furnished and the beds are very comfortable. Our bathroom was well fitted with ample hot water, towels and toiletries. There are tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk available in the kitchen downstairs. There is a very useful folder in each room with masses of information about the house, its history, the facilities, places to eat and places to visit. There is a small TV in each room and a large one in the small sitting room. There is also a small sitting room on the first floor.

There is a wide choice of hot and cold dishes for breakfast. Cereals, fruit, juice and yoghurt are on the buffet and hot dishes to order - all delicious. The breakfast staff are cheerful and efficient. Informal evening meals are available by arrangement, taken in the kitchen when there are fewer guests.

The family (we met Ted and Sammie) and their staff (we met Dean) are friendly and welcoming and can't do enough for their guests. If they are not in earshot guests are shown how to contact them using the house phones, but in our experience there was always someone about keeping an eye on things. They really want their guests to get the best from their stay.

The gardens surround the house and offer a variety of walks, for example down to the quay, over to the walled garden (not yet open, but visible from the walk which overlooks it) or up to the mausoleum. There is a terrace and formal lawn behind the house. The walks are clearly shown on a map given to each guest. The gardens have not been over-restored and the atmosphere is peaceful with the sun filtering through the trees of the lime walk.

Come and stay here if you can, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: We stayed in Parker which is at the front. There are cockerels on the lawn but they can't be hea...

Looking for somewhere to stay with a Disabled guest and wheelchair user? Pentillie Castle went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. Room adaptions were perfect, and the food was excellent. The house and grounds were easily accessible without too much bother, and the grounds can also be explored by car too. The staff are so friendly, and nothing is any trouble for them. Best of all was the magnificent surroundings, peace and quiet, and comfort of home. I recommend a stay at Pentillie Castle for anyone, if only as a B&B like we did! Thank you to all the team.

Great house and facillities which we enjoyed very much. The owners are very good hosts and made us feel `at home´ from the very beginning of our stay. In our home country - Germany - it´s hard to find such an impressive castle offering such valuable, warm and well designed Guest Room including the exceptionell dining and living room.
We will definitely try to enjoy another stay in Pentillie Castle.

Amazing location and great hosts!

We stayed at Pentillie Castle in April 2014 during Easter break. We loved everything about the Castle! Great introduction by host and explanation where everything is and what are the rules when walking/exploring around the area.

Rooms:
We stayed in a relative small but very clean and cozy room on the first floor next to the tower. Very clean, with nice shower room. We couldn't find anything that we didn't like about this room.

Breakfast:
I would recommended anyone staying in the Castle to wake up as early as possible and enjoy the most amazing breakfast. Really liked service and quality of the food. Pentillie breakfast is the must! with organic local apple juices.

Walks:
Great walks around the area, our only suggestion would be to include numbers on the map when you;re walking around the area. Otherwise we would recommend everyone to explore beautiful Pentillie gardens. We had companion walking next to very smart dog called "Hershey"

We would recommended castle to anyone looking to escape London or spend romantic week end in the Country. We will definitely coming back to this place this year!

As a resident in the nearby village of St Mellion during my childhood in the 1950s, I had always been intrigued to discover what the then mysterious and secluded Pentillie Castle and its grounds were really like. So the chance to find out by staying there over a weekend in March 2014 was too good to miss. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the Dewhurst Room which was immaculate, luxurious and stylish. The entire property is very special, reflecting its unique history, and was beautifully appointed with every imaginable comfort. All the Coryton family members we met were incredibly welcoming - so helpful and informative - as were the staff. We loved the breakfasts. Our tour of the estate was truly memorable with views of scenes towards the Tamar Valley being very special. Highly recommended. We shall be back - hopefully before too long!
