Nestled high above the meandering Tamar river, this is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places we have visited.

The castle itself is grand, yet homely. I can not imagine anyone who would not want to live there. From the moment you arrive you can tell there is attention to detail by how you are guided round what the castle has to offer.

The gardens left us desperate for more. We enjoyed going off exploring and the owners dogs came along with us.

Everything about Pentillie is just right. Nearing perfection for us and we will certainly be back to stay again.

What a wonderful place. There are some other castles in the UK which offer lodging and breakfast in a very pleasant way und in very nice rooms but Pentillie is special. Not only the history of the castle and the family behind is special but also the feeling you get as soon as you are inside. Sure, it is a castle with all the bells and whistles and some might fear to feel uneasy in such situations. No worries: Pentillie is different. It is never snobbish and you feel yourself like home ..............although you probably not reside in a castle at home :-)

Pentillie Castle is a boutique hotel on the most amazing property in a wonderful part of England. The host family are engaged in a brave effort to save, restore and cherish the grand home overlooking the Tamar River. Ted and Sammie were genial and forthcoming about their project and its many challenges. The restoration of the house has been very well done with a blend of modern and classic touches topped off by the many priceless family portraits in every room. The grounds along the river are still a work in progress but provided very attractive walking, including the notorious tomb of the Pentillie founder.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the river valley and others the surrounding forest -- hard to choose.

I can't recommend Pentillie highly enough. The house and its location is beautiful and all the team make you feel so welcome. The atmosphere is completely relaxed and laid back as was immediately evident when we were greeted by owner Ted in the middle of his gardening duties.
The cockerels and resident Labradors roaming the grounds all add to the feel of being a house guest rather than simply a paying customer in a hotel. All rooms and facilities are spot on as so many others have mentioned in other reviews. I would definitely love to visit again.

Right from the moment we arrived and were greated by the 4 resident cockerals we knew we were going to be in for a pleasant stay. Pentillie has an interesting story to it and part owner "Sammie" was happy to share it with us. The castle is perfectly located and overlooks the Tamar Valley & River. We stayed in the Dewhurst Luxury Four Poster Suite, and it is Luxury, with plenty of room and a very pleasant view. Breakfast was 1st class as was the service by all staff. Make sure you take a walk through the gardens and if your lucky the 2 resident black labradors will follow you or should I say guide you.

Grant S

Room Tip: Take a walk to the Mausoleum, and to the Bathing Hut.

The reviewer, nomadonholiday, sums this place up so well there's isn't much
else for me to say regarding room and facilities.
Follow the directions given by the hotel and you should be fine.Don't expect to
see a large sign on the main road advertising the hotel though. There is a small one which could be overlooked.
Entering the drive to the hotel you go alongside the top of a deep, verdant
valley and feel immediately at peace - well we did. The road splits, as the landscape opens out, and curves round to the courtyard in front of the 'castle'.
We were greeted warmly by four colourful, strutting characters, who were
either curious as to what we looked like, or were after some food, that is,
the cockerels. They became known to us as the Four Musketeers.
We received an even warmer welcome at reception from the staff and family
who own it. We immediately felt at home.
Once settled, we decided to go for a walk up to the Mausoleum through the woods. One of the labradors decided to join us and, I'll swear, knew where
we were going and guided us there. It stopped at every junction in the path,
waited and then trotted on as if to say "follow me"! When we arrived there
the view was idyllic and stunning over the fields and valley, down to the snaking Tamar River. So, we were smitten on our first day.
Breakfast is super. Choices of cereals, fruit and juices and a freshly cooked
one too if you wish - and you should!
We were in the Howard room which was comfortable and, being on the corner of the building, had a view out of both the front and the side. The
front faces the woods, the side you can see across a couple of the hotel's
rooftops to the river. Should we go again, I'd select, literally, a landscape room looking out over the rear. The view is across the valley and river.
Only a couple of quibbles. The room backing onto Howard has its shower on the other side of the wall which backs onto the bedhead. So, anyone having
an early shower in there may wake you up. And, thereby, that leads me to
waking up. Our Four Musketeers would start communicating at about 5am
and have a chat over breakfast for about 3 hours, so I was woken up early
most mornings. They come into the Estate Office yard below the room and
probably discuss the lack of good corn for breakfast. Deliveries are also made
in that yard, which may also cause some disturbance in that room.
To counter all that, ear-plugs are provided in the bedside cabinet. That sums
it up, they think of everything here!

Room Tip: One at the rear looking out over the fantastic landscape. They may be more expensive, but worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Pentillie. We're glad that you felt at home and Khan and Charfu were such good guides - they've had plenty of practice!

Unfortunately the four musketeers have now become three due to a plucky fox. We have been trying to encourage them further away from the Castle so they don't disturb guests early in the morning - it is an ongoing project!

We will certainly take your feedback onboard regarding deliveries in the Estate Office courtyard and limit any disturbance in the future.

The Coryton, Tillie and Dewhurst Suites all await your return in the meantime!

We look forward to hearing from you again.

Kind regards,
Kate, and team Pentillie
