This hotel has an historic atmosphere about it. Some of the foundations of the hotel are clearly from another era. The receptionists were so very friendly and helpful. I only speak English and German but the Dutch people generally speak a various amount of languages – which could put some of us to shame I feel!
My room number 6 had many antic-looking fittings and furniture, and a coffee machine with coffee pads, sugar and so on. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a shower and separate bathtub, though no place to hang up the towels. In order to get to the bathroom and bed, I needed to climb some stairs but, I felt this room was very much to my liking. And it was very clean!
The only traffic I heard during my 2-night stay was from fellow guests who had just arrived or were leaving. A kilometre away from the hotel is a field, in which were hundreds of sheep. One morning I heard a woodpecker and watched ducks fly; saw a few people walking their dogs. This hotel and its surrounding area is a lovely and peaceful place to be after a hard-day´s work.
The bar and restaurant are fine, though the menu had a limited chose of food. Unlike in Germany, where a large glass of “Bier” used to take 7 minutes to pour, the hotel bar staff serves beer within 1, 5 minutes, and still tastes good!
The food was okay but I thought the price was a little too high. But! If a traveler´s priority after a long day is peace and quiet – plus the friendliness, this hotel is the place to be!
The reception is roughly a 2 minute walk from where the 45 rooms are. My tip; When you get out of your car (vehicle) don´t take your luggage with you because, once you register and receive your electronic card for your room, you have to walk past the same car park again, with your luggage in order to get to your room. Leave your luggage in your vehicle.
Some work colleagues and I were booked into this hotel in Holland, bordering Möchengladbach, because there was an exhibition taking place in the capital city of Nordrhein Westphalia, Düsseldorf. Every other hotel within a long radius near Düsseldorf was fully booked. The most positive aspect about all these hotels being fully booked near and around Düsseldorf was, I experienced and enjoyed some really friendly, helpful and chatty Dutch hotel staff. My second tip to any traveler is this one. Book a room and simply enjoy the moment!
