“Conference at Rolduc”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

I was in Rolduc as a speaker for a small conference. I was surpised by the authenticity of the building and its interior. Great location for a business or private stay. Conference rooms are sufficient available. Also VTC and wifi were perfect.

We stayed here for 1 night on the 17th September during our visit to Aachen.
It was a good choice as the distance to Aachen only 12km away (approx.20 minutes driving) and the rate was much lower than hotels in downtown Aachen.

It's a combination between accommodation and historical sightseeing as the site already built 900 years ago as a monastery.

This accommodation offers a totally different experience compared to any other hotels that we've been staying. We arrived late evening and after a smooth and fast check in process, we rolled our suitcases along dark corridor lit by yellowish chandelier and surrounded by old paintings, we admit that it was a bit scary. Furthermore, our toilet located in the hallway as well and the hallway light have to be turned on each time we went out from the room.

However, we're happy that we could experience staying in this place. During daytime, we felt that the hotel ambiance was totally fine and nice with well-maintained landscape. Rooms, shared toilet & shower were very clean, but a brighter lamp should be placed in the shower room as it's a bit dark.

Breakfast included to the room rate and served in main dining hall. We're quite surprised that it includes hot dishes as well (including bacon and scrambled egg).

Tips: Parking is quite a distance from hotel entrance, so just drop your luggage first in front of the entrance door as it's very difficult to roll suitcase over cobbled stone pathway.

Amazing !! we were lucky enough to spend a long weekend staying with a large group of friends in Rolduc. The staff were friendly and helpful, I did think our room was a bit shabby when I first walked into the room, but I could see that they were being re-furbished as another of our friends was on the same floor and her room had been re-furbished. It was buffet style breakfast, we had a meal in the restaurant, it did take a long time (if you are impatient), but it was well worth the wait and the atmosphere just made you relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Room Tip: Ensure you have a executive room, all rooms are quiet.

This hotel is located in a monestary. It is a beautiful place with the kept authenticy of a monestary.
There is a church and also a restaurant and several bars (located in the cellar). The rooms are sober and the wooden floors still "cracking" as they do for many years.
The location of this hotel is the town called Kerkrade. Nothing worth to see or do. This town is better of when it is demolisioned

Well converted monastic abbey, with good conference facilities and comfortable rooms. Two-tiered room pricing structure: some rooms are ensuite and others share a communal bathroom. Spotlessly clean and secure.

Breakfast is buffet style, with a wide choice, and is served in either the large ground floor room, or in the smaller room next to the (excellent) bar. The abbey brew their own beer, which should definitely be tried! We booked an evening meal here, which was tasty, and the service was excellent.

Kerkrade town itself is about a twenty minute walk away.

This old abbey is refurbished to a modern conference place. Which breathe quiet and has a nice atmosphere. The modern rooms are spacy and well equipted with everything you need and has a good bathroom. We stayed on the top level of the main building. The wall's are thin and could be noisy, But there are a lot of peace seekers in this place. The toplevel-rooms could be warm in a hot summer. There is no airco. No balcony's and there are different kinds of rooms and the cheapest could be basic only for a few euro's less.

The breakfast was european and tasted OK, but the waiters could not follow the crowd. Or there were too little waiters. In the centre courtyard there is a big terras and in the main building the sell their own beer. Awesome! The restaurant in the cellar is beautiful and serves good food, but not much choice on the menu. Better choice is Ristorante Giuseppe on the marketplace in the centre of Kerkrade. Only 2 km away. Nice place for a weekend and I wil defenitly go back here.

Room Tip: do not choose the cheapest room, because they are very basic. Ristorante Giuseppe on the market in...

I stayed for a conference and was struck by the historic value of the building (be sure to book a tour). The church of the 12th century and the crypt within was a pleasant surprise. My room was small, being a former monk-cell, but furnished in a modern way with a pleasant bathroom.
Breakfast was OK, and also the bar with 'home'-brewed beer was cozy.
