My sister recommended Rafjam to us explaining that it was a relaxing place to be....she was right except she forgot to mention the awesome staff. From start to finish the small but efficient staff of: Suzanne, Richie, Nanny and Crystal were at our disposal. They made us feel as if we were the only guests they had to consider yet the other guests felt the same. Suzanne chose a great team.
This was a perfect location for a quiet getaway as the days and nights we spent there were with the doors and window open as we listened to the nearby waterfall along with the flowing stream. But not only was it peaceful but we felt safe.
We have our memories to carry us through and were especially happy we went there as guests and returned after making friends. Stephen and Aimee would recommend this location to ANYONE seeking temporary simplicity.

Room Tip: Get a room with the porch as close to the sounds of the falls as is possible. You will want to sit a...

This is the place to unplug and unwind. Nestled in a small nook in the mountains with babbling rivers and lush landscapes, RafajaM's shows you the beauty of the Blue Mountains. I stayed in the cottage and it was perfection. It has private patio and river pool where I spent time reading, meditating and enjoying the peace. The cottage has a lovely sitting area, two bedrooms and a sparkling unique bathroom with separate tub and shower, built into the landscape with exposed rock walls. The hostess, Susan, was the epitome of courtesy and Jamaican pride. Breakfast (with Blue Mountain Coffee) on the patio with the mountain air and morning sun (with Bob Marley songs drifting in the wind) was the perfect way to start the day. I cannot review the other meals, but in the cottage there is a hotplate, sink and BBQ on the patio if you would like to cook your own food, which on my next visit I plan on doing. Cannot wait to return as it is a place of serenity and peace that rarely exists in the fast pace world.

I was in Kingston for a month on business, & decided to spend the last 3 days of my stay at Rafjam. I had already researched the inn through Tripadvisor months prior, so I was anxious to see the beauty in person. "Wow" is the only word that came out of my mouth after viewing the grounds. It's the perfect hideaway! The facilitiy is spotless, I loved my room!. And the staff is beyond friendly, they're my new family! "Heeeyyyy Susan!!" The food was perfect! Down home Jamaican cuisine at it's finest. You can taste the love in every bite. My favorite part is the natural vegitation along & within the grounds, and of course the river & waterfall. I found heaven on earth~

Pro's:

- beautiful outdoor garden spa with benches, hangmats, chairs, natural pool of fresh mountain water etc. and a wondeful view of the surroundings
- very friendly and obliging staff
- cute little waterfall with fresh mountain water only 5 min away from the guesthouse
- rooms and shared bathrooms are clean
- various guided trips can be arranged by the host (hike to the blue mountain peak, visit a coffee plantation, see the rastafarian community in the hills, etc.)
transport from the airport or another hotel/guesthouse to Rafjam can be arranged for a reasonable price
- the climate in the mountains is very pleasant compared to the heat in the towns
- Rafjam‘s guesthouse is the perfect location to settle down, after a stressful journey

Con's:

- due to the very isolated location of the guesthouse, it is impossible to eat out or do any shopping (the dinner prices are very expensive and they don‘t serve a lot of food!!)
- the outdoor spa is only enjoyable when the weather is good

Thanks so much for writing this review. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay. As we provide basic kitchen amenities, we try to make it a point to let our guests know that they can bring up their own grocery supplies from town. If for some reason we omitted this information, then please accept our sincere apologies. As you now know from experience, yes, we are located at the end of a country road, but the isolation and serenity in nature is part of what we like to offer our guests. We do rent out the space for private parties sometimes, however. Too bad you weren't around for the last dance party. Always a lot of fun. Hope to see you again soon. If you need transport (from the airport or to an event), just let us know and we will arrange it.

My friend and I started our 10-day adventure in Jamaica with a 2-night stay at Rafjam based on a recommendation from a friend and former guest. The property is nestled into the hills of the beautiful Blue Mountains, where days are sunny and nights are comfortably cool (no need for AC). The property includes a river and small waterfall, where guests can cool down after a hike around the mountains. I felt really at home at Rafjam and was very sad to leave. Susan, the owner, lives on-site, and her family lives next door and across the street. Friendly pets (cats and dogs) greet you when you arrive at Rafjam, and birds and butterflies abound in Rafjam's lush, tropical gardens. This is the perfect place to stay if your looking for a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful, realistic experience in Jamaica. At Rafjam, you can avoid all the tourist traps and the chaos of Kingston to catch a glimpse of real life in the Jamaican hills. I felt like I was a personal guest rather than a tourist here, which added a level of comfort I always seek while traveling to new places. The price was impressively low considering how comfortable the accommodations were and how beautiful the property was. You also get a discount if you stay at Goblin Hill, where Rafjam's owner's husband is the Manager, after staying at Rafjam. Susan, the owner, is a sweetheart and a very genuine person who makes you feel at home and comfortable. There are some attractions within walking distance too - a coffee plantation, beautiful hikes, a Rasta community, some gardens, and horseback riding. Plus, it's only 30 minutes from Kingston if you need a dose of nightlife. I spent most of my time lounging on one of the hammocks overlooking the river. I've traveled a lot throughout the world, but Jamaica and the Blue Mountains specifically, is now on my top-3 list of favorite places. I missed Rafjam for weeks after I left - it was my favorite part of our trip along with Goblin Hill in Port Antonio. I highly recommend the Blue Mountains and Rafjam during your trip to Jamaica.

Room Tip: Susan had just finished building the cottage on-site - a more luxurious, larger 3-story building tha...

I think this is a place that comes closest to paradise, cool mountain setting with a cold natural pool from a mountain spring, the garden is set up carefully to match the surroundings, a place full of peace and relaxation.

We just walked in and had no reservation so there was only two people from the staff, but they did everything to make us feel welcome, a place I surely recommend.

Great place and fantastic people! We stayed at their wooden cottage and it was fabulous. The bathrum is absolutley stunning and so is the natural stone on bottom floor. The view from the upstares bedrooms are also really nice. The small stream outside and the beautiful nature really makes this place magical. We had a lot of business in Kingston but did not want to stay there as it's so much husslin everywhere. So it was nice to get a way up to the mountains and eat some good food at Rafjam. No people trying to sell you stuff just some nice food, john holt and some red stripe. We had a 1 year old with us so we got very happy about having some kitchen facilites. Even if you are not visiting the mountains and you just have business in Kingston it's worth the 40 min drive down just to get out of town for the night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Deep in the valleys of the Blue Mountains, Rafjam Bed and Breakfast offers an authentic, local Jamaican experience like none other. Rafjam is located up the B1 highway from Papine in Kingston. After about a 30 minute drive and arrival to the town of Red Light, turn right on Hopewell Road and drive all the way down the cul-de-sac. Nestled between two rivers, the guest accommodations are perched high above the natural scenery: the cascading river in our backyard or the fleeting glimpse of a hummingbird sipping rain water from the petals of a heliconia. The climate in the mountains drifts from sun to cloud all day, with scattered rain. Rafjam offers an ideal spot to soak in the soothing Jamaican sun while not getting scorched along the way. You can always jump into one of the many freshwater pools on the property to cool off, or climb up to the 15 foot waterfall just five minutes away. Born and raised in Springdale Cove, Susan inherited her parent's house and decided to refurbish. Eager to offer a taste of paradise to everyone, she opened these magnificent Blue Mountain Cottages with the help of her husband. This vivacious, real Jamaican lady and her professional, laid back team will welcome you and provide whatever you need for you to enjoy your stay.
