“Impressed!”

We stayed at the Lakeland hotel whilst travelling through Europe on an Expat Explore coach tour. Our room had such a great view, with a balcony to enjoy the scenery; bathrooms came with a bath and cute little souvenirs on our beds. The staff was friendly and helpful, Wifi is not free, but is around 3 Euros. The breakfast and dinner provided at the hotel was so well presented and had such a wide variety to choose from, just to give an indication there were soups, a wide variety of breads sausages, salads, a lot of dessert, for those of you who really enjoy the sweet stuff and generally a nice atmosphere in the dining room. Overall our stay was really comfortable, will definitely stay at this hotel again in the future!

we were on a coaching holiday and arrived for the first of our 3 night stay on the 14th october first of all we someone to come onto the coach to wellcome us and to say if we could all be ready for dinner at 6.30 as someone came round to give us all a bowl of soup after which you helped yourself they leave a menu to say whats on the buffet but you did find a odd thing not there but always found enough to eat, breakfast is mainly things like ham and cheese the nearest i got to the full english was boiled eggs and sausages in a tin that is the one thing that lets it down. we were given a free bar between 8.30 and 11.30 the only rule being you must finish one drink before you get another, 2 of the nights the barmaid who has dark short hair and always smiling ask for a hot chocalate and you get a tweet as she squirts cream in though the biggest laugh we got some guy opened this mouth wide and yes he got a mouth full. we were very happy with our room and not only were there fresh towels waiting on our bed that first day but a little pepper and salt with dutch houses printed on nice touch. we found the dutch people friendly every where we went and not just in the hotel. i would like to say a little about the places we visited zaanse schans the the first place we visited and maybe the best as you see windmills working they have some lovely shops including one where they were making cloggs we didnt buy too much there thought we would find cheaper else where but we didnt, edem known for its cheese but its such a pretty little town we loved it, volendam has a good few shops near the harbour and they have a cheese show. amsterdam we went on a boat trip which was great plenty going on there. scheveningen is a sea side resort ok maybe nice in the summer but october everything closed a waste of time going .the hague a big town known for its courts and parliment but like the other people on the coach found it boring and no gift shops only high street ones.

Room Tip: we were all on ground level but for a older person maybe would like to be abit nearer

Having read the revews for this place i was a little bit concerned that i was heading to the hotel from hell. Nothing is further from the truth. Granted, this place has seen better days but where else will you get a budget hotel with clean beds, clean linen immaculate bathroom and a radiator that kicks out enough heat to keep the room warm and cosy.We visited this place as part of a coach tour in October so the warm cosy room was perfect. Im a bit pernickity when it comes to food so was pleasantly surprised that the evening meals were quite tasty. Dont get me wrong, the food is basic but its plentiful, and tasty. This isnt fine dining but you will not go hungry. If you want a bolied egg at breakfast, get in early as the guests in here appear to be constantly in transit or trying to save a few quid. The bowl of boiled eggs act as a homing beacon for those stocking up for lunch. We witnessed someone emptying the bowl into a plastic bag. I can only assume that they love boiled eggs or were feeding the entire coach party. We travelled here all inclusive with drinks included. The choice of alcholic drinks is limited but its ok. The dark beer is amazing the gin was lovely and the bar staff were lovely. As i said, this place is basic but more importantly its warm, clean and set in a lovely location. Ive travelled to many places over the years and write honest reviews. Even i would recommend this place. For me thats unusual !

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the furthest end of the hotel as the floors in the hallway are tiled. Its a bit...

Recently stayed here, for 3 nights, and not what I had expected, arrived at 21:00 in the evening after a long journey by coach (16hrs) evening meal was kept warm and was to be taken in a dark and dingy conservatory type building, it was so dark that I could not read the piece of paper that the menu was printed on, the food was, as I said, kept warm it was not fresh, on tasting it I found that it was not edible, so I left that, the bedroom was down a long corridor along cold tiled floors, there was no toiletries i.e. little complimentary soap or shampoo bottles in the bathroom and no hand towels, we had to ask for these towels, I had asked for a double room, I got 2 single beds pushed together, the walls and ceiling was paper thin, you could hear everything that was going on around you, even people talking word for word in the next room, the bathroom was just the same, when other people were walking up and down the corridor it sounded just like an express train on a railway track, as because there was tiled floors throughout, the floor was freezing when you got out of bed, a little rug would,nt have gone amiss, the following morning the breakfast left a lot to be desired, ok if you like ham or cheese, the location was way out, had to access everywhere by public transport, ate and stayed out the following day, on return to our room (5pm) we were met by one of the women who cleaned and serviced the room in the corridor, she said to me that she had.nt been in our room as she did;nt have time to do it so left it, no fresh towels, beds not made rubbish not taken out from the bin, we chilled out until 7pm, and decided to go to the dining area to try what we thought an evening meal (meal times being 6:30pm until 8pm) on arrival at the dining area we were told that there was no food left, this didn't go down well so we went out for a walk to the local village where we found a really homely and welcoming fish and chip shop where you could sit down inside for some food, this was run by a Chinese husband and wife team they were excellent, the food was really nice service was good and it was very cheap, well recommended, glad to leave this hotel the following morning

The Lake Land hotel is a bit tired and the staff should be-they work so hard.It is one of the friendliest hotels I have been in.Reception do a great job of making you feel welcome and encourage guests to ask for info, all staff are cheery ,hardworking and a pleasure to deal with.We have just returned today 21/9/13 and found the hotel a great central spot for visiting other sights. It is very quiet and if you are looking for nightlife, you don`t want to be here!

The location is fantastic. Monnickendam is well worth the 5 minute stroll to see the cobbled streets and watch the clock chiming with its trumpet player and revolving horses. We went back twice to check out the architecture and watch the clock once more. There were one or two lively bars on the edge of the canal, but in all a beautiful peaceful and picturesque place. 15km from Amsterdam and several buses an hour all night for a 5 Euro fare made this an ideal location.

The Lakeland Hotel has themed public areas, the breakfast room built to look like a town square with mock stable doors through to the kitchen and the reception area full of curios and an area with tables resembling a cobbled street with faux shop windows.

Bedroom was small, but adequate with a TV and balcony, bathroom too small and barely adequate. Showering difficult due to the location of the shower head over the bath and I'm sure long-legged people would have problems sitting on the loo as it was facing a wall only a couple of feet away! Walls were paper thin. You could clearly hear every word people walking down the corridor were saying and the sliding cupboards next door sounded as if they were in your room.

Food wasn't great. The hotel caters for large coach parties, so it was food designed to replace quickly and was virtually the same both nights we stayed.

All the staff we encountered were great. Staff were very friendly. The receptionist on our first night was very knowledgeable and the bar staff were great. The restaurant staff were obviously very busy and rushed off their feet, but still managed to stay civil.

Despite the fact I've given this hotel an average rating (and I was toying with giving it poor) I would stay here again. The price we paid for it, which included a free bar, plus the location and friendliness of the staff made up for the small bathroom and average food. If I were to stay here again, I'd eat out in the evening. It was cheap enough to be able to do that without feeling you were losing money.
