“Nice hotel for a healthy outdoors break”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2013

A simple hotel in Renesse know for its healthy lifestyle. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, could do with some tea making etc in the rooms. Barthroom is basic but okay, the type of hoilday you would have in Renesse would mean that you would not spend much time in the rooms. Good point was that you can get BBC1 and BBC2 on TV, on the down side there is no lift. There is a large car park next to the hotel and the swimming pool looked like it would be popular in the summer, with lots of decking for lazying in the sun. The bar had an 'Irish' theme but was nice for a night cap.
Generally if on a cycling or walking holiday this was fine, but it could do with a face lift, seems a little like it was locked in th 70's.
No wifi in the rooms, I would not recommend it for business but fine for holidays if the price is right.

We went to Renesse on a short birding break to see the geese and do some winter birdwatching. Initially staying for 2 nights we extended to 3 nights.
We chose half board option - absolutely excellent! The set 3 course dinner was great and very good value. The wine was good also but a little expensive. Breakfast buffet excellent also.
The hotel has a cozy bar with a good range of beers.
This is our second stay and we would return.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Rooms area good size, clean, and entirely adequate.

Room Tip: room 39 overlooks the pool and has a bath with shower overhead

I stayed here for one night during a cycling trip along the Dutch coast. On arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. The bike storage was around the corner under a shelter but not behind a locked door. My room was OK but could do with an upgrade. The bathroom was clean but looking tired. The town centre of is only a short walk away where there are shops, restaurants and bars.

We stayed 1 night in Deluxe room 42, for 150 euros - chosen because it had a queen bed (as opposed to singles pushed together) and a coffee maker. I was shown two Standard rooms and neither had these. They were also smaller, not as attractive, and one did not have a balcony.

Efficient receptionist, v business-like.

The room was compact with a charming balcony with two chairs, overlooking the pool. The pool was decent sized, with attractive pool furniture.
The room décor and furnishings were contemporary. There was:

- a full length mirror
- a ceiling mounted TV With some English channels
- little table and chair
- built in desk area and chair
- coffee maker
- wardrobe with safe
- bench for extra storage, and two hooks for coats
- Wifi

There is a small, communal sauna that you are required to book in advance - on our floor, just down the hall. We used it - was fine, but no great shakes. The breakfast provided the usual selection of breads, pastries, cold meats, fruit and juices. No fresh juice or fruit. The dining room was lovely, with attractive front patio seating in warm weather.

I would have given the hotel 2.5 stars had it been an option. Why not 4-5 stars? Many small reasons:

The bedside table lights on both sides were activated by one switch, so that both lights had to be turned on - or neither. Made sleeping while my husband read challenging

Service was lacking - extra pillows were requested twice, both times the receptionist said he would provide them. Neither the pillows nor any explanation was provided.

The light over the bathroom mirror was burnt out. We pointed this out to staff and asked for a new bulb. No one got back to us.

The hotel's restaurant is lovely and served an excellent dinner, however, a simple question about the length of time for dinner was taken with unnecessary affront and we were made to feel foolish and embarrassed for asking. The waiter tried to be pleasant after that, but the situation remained awkward.

We were awoken by guests who at 4 am (on a Tuesday night) decided to engage in loud socializing by the pool or patio. The night manager said he would call security immediately which I believe he did, however, the loud voices continued on - albeit at a somewhat reduced decibel level - for approximately the next hour.

None of these negatives in isolation would have been a significant problem, but taken all together in one night soured our overall experience of this hotel. We do not know what other hotels or inns Renesse offers, but we would not recommend this one and would not stay there again.

Room Tip: Spring for a Deluxe category room as only these have coffee maker and queen beds instead of singles...

A nice hotel with an very cozy bar, good restaurant and even an outdoor swimming pool. This is only open during the summer.
Breakfast is very good, diner even better. But you have to make a reservation for diner early on, the restaurant is quickly fully booked !
The rooms are OK, but a bit sober. A painting or some decoration would be nice.
The hotel is located just a few steps from the nice town of Renesse, and a few hundred meters from the beach and a magnificent natural environment. Don't forget your walking shoes. Or rent a bike !

Room Tip: some rooms have a balcony with a view
