Katwijk aan Zee is a quiet seaside village, without the bustle of neighbouring Noordwijk. With almost every room booked due to the Keukenhof flower exhibition in Lisse, we ended up at the B&B aan Zee.
After a hearty welcome from the owner, we managed to get our suitcases up the extremely narrow stairs. Lucky us, staying on the first floor: the children had to work their way up an extra flight. Our room was clean, but could definitely use a lick of paint. Excellent beds though, even for a back patient like myself. The shower drain seemed to suffer from a slight blockage, which caused the occasional flooding of the bathroom. Good to know if you arrive on a Sunday or after shop hours: no complementary shower gel or shampoo, just the hand soap.
Breakfast was delicious, with various types of fresh bread and buns and freshly squeezed orange juice. Pity we discovered that not all the cups were 100% clean. We also didn't understand why nobody thought of ironing the table linen. Nevertheless, the service was very good.More
