The Harran Hotel is a large business hotel with a very dated style but the rooms are large, clean, the facilities are good and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they even took us along to a night of Kurdish music and dancing in a local inn.

There's a good size swimming pool which provides great relief after a hot day sightseeing and the whole place is big and airy. The hotel is in a good location - a 15-20 min walk to the main sights of Urfa, a 10 min walk to the museum and it's near the road out to Harran. There are also plenty of restaurants within a short walk from teh restaurant.

We stayed in the Harran Hotel for 2 nights. It's a pretty anonymous place, well-located for getting in and out of Urfa but not as well positioned for the principal tourist sights in the city (the Golbasi, Dergah, castle and bazaar). Still, the city centre is not huge so the walk back up the hill to the hotel from the Golbasi area is hardly a big deal.

The hotel is a typical business style place. It looks a bit faded inside, but isn't tatty. The breakfast buffet is fine, if not exceptional. The room we stayed in was very large, and also had a really big bathroom (and a bath!) which all helped as we were traveling with kids. It was also exceptionally pink. Which was nice.

The pool has an outdoor pool which would probably be open May-September. There's also a hamam in the hotel but, sorry ladies, it's for the gents only. You pay a small surcharge as well, but the intrepid Rabbit-and-Sprite didn't want to miss out. It's the best part of the hotel for anyone who enjoys lying semi-naked on a radiator in a damp room. if it isn't your cup of tea (as you can tell, it isn't really Rabbit-and-Sprite's) then the hamam also leads into a small indoor pool with a funky retro bar and a load of empty fridges (no booze in the public areas). The whole experience confused me about as much as I confused the gents enjoying their post-hamam cup of tea.

In summary, there are probably better options in Urfa, but the Harran is not a bad place to stay for a couple of nights.
