“Great Place to Explore the Suffolk Heritage Coast From.”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Ideally situated midway between Aldeburgh and Southwold this inn is great for seeing the coastal sights in Suffolk.
Upon arrival the staff were friendly and efficient and the room was excellent with many little extra luxuries ( bathrobes, toiletries, homemade biscuits, roll top bath as well as a shower ) that count towards a really good experience.
This inn is a very good place to eat, with food to die for in the restaurant and the breakfast menu is extensive and all produce is locally sourced and prepared fresh.
Overall I cannot recommend the Crown highly enough and we will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the main road will be quieter, although this is not really a big problem afte...

Staying in the Short-Eared Owl suite meant our daughters slept on a large sofabed in the ground floor room (beside the bathroom) and we slept upstairs in the eaves with french doors opening onto the car park, with rooflite windows, kingsize bed and roll-top bath. TVs in both rooms. Our room had a kettle, cafeteire, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar and in the fridge was a jug of fresh milk and bottled water. There was even a little jar of biscuits. Very comfortable beds, with plenty of towels, plus 2 bathrobes, soap, shower gel, shampoo etc. Breakfast in the garden room was modern and bright, and a very pleasant setting. Selection of cereals, fruit and juice and a menu of cooked breakfast and toast or croissants. A truly relaxing place to stay and would love to go back again.

Looked for places to stay on this part of the coast for years. Last minute search found The Crown, no idea why we hadn't found it before. All round a thoroughly enjoyable stop. An excellent, fresh clean room with every facility one could want in an hotel of this size. Easy off-road parking. Welcoming, helpful staff on the front desk. Comfortable bar and a selection of dining areas. The menu was practical and realistic: you should expect fresh well-cooked food from such as this and we were not disappointed. We had the Pork Rib-eye for our main and it was cooked to perfection. Relaxing lounge area to enjoy a post-meal drink. The breakfast was excellent. Lots of choice. All round, a real find and we will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in a "better" room off the main car park and experienced no noise or disturbance

We booked in for two nights whilst visiting Latitude music festival. We have been here before but Crown exceeded our expectations this time with the room.

We stayed in one of their "better" rooms & loved it!!! The room "Dartford Warbler" was cosy but airy but the thing that made it for me was the BIG roll top bath in our bathroom .........awesome !!!!! I had more baths than normal lol !

Food, as ever, was delightful & last but not least the staff are such an asset.

Great place to stay so see you again soon.

Called for lunch without a reservation, restaurant not busy. Service slow, main courses pricey decided on fish cake which was o.k my son had a meat/cheese platter, home made pork pie not edible, very dry, partner had smoked fish platter looked good but taste didn't match. White wine too warm. Nobody checked if everything was o.k. so very disappointed paid and left.

We booked a 3 day stay in one of their beautiful suites as a last minute break. It was a fabulous choice. The accommodation was on 2 floors with sitting room with TV and bathroom on the ground floor and a bedroom with double ended bath and TV on the upper floor. The bed was 6 foot and was extremely comfortable. The room was beautiful and we find it hard to criticise it at all. A small issue was that lovely fluffy towels were provided but depending on whether you showered or bathed you needed to make sure they were in the right room. Breakfast was served in the lovely conservatory and the quality was really good and the choice excellent. We had hoped to eat in the restaurant on one of our evenings and had seen on the website that 2/3 course set menus were available. On our first evening we asked about this as the menu was just an al a carte and a little pricey. We were told that this was only for Thursday evenings so booked for the following night which was indeed Thursday. When we were shown to our table the set menu was not presented and the staff knew nothing about it. As we felt let down we decided to order from the bar menu and chose the home cooked burger with caramelised onions served on seeded buns with a portion of hand cut chips. When our meals appeared the small burger was served on French stick with no onions and what looked and tasted like frozen chips. We asked for the restaurant manager who did apologise and agreed that the meal was not satisfactory. It had spoilt what should have been a very enjoyable evening. The saving grace was that we were only charged half of the £10.95 for our meals. All this said we would indeed love to return as the hotel is a special find and well situated near the coast. Whether we book a table for dinner we will see.

Once again, I had a superb weekend break at my favourite Suffolk bolt hole. The only criticism I have is that same of the staff just need a little bit of customer service training! Waiting about 5 minutes at the bar Saturday evening while a lad emptied the dishwasher. It's called the 10 second rule! Just recognise that the customer is waiting and if you can't serve us, say so but go and fetch somebody! The staff need to smile a bit more, some did, perhaps they're naturals but the others might need to be told to smile. I still love this place, now part of a hotel group I think? Let's hope that the new mangers don't lose sight of what a jewel this place is. It's not cheap so expect good food and service. Check who was trying to cook pancakes on Sunday morning 13th July! He'd have lost round 1 on master chef!

Room Tip: The rooms are graded and all named after birds found locally. Some have big double baths and lots of...
