My partner and I have recently come back from a weekend away at the Westleton Crown. We arrived Friday evening to be warmly welcomed by the receptionist and she gave us the key to the "Kingfisher room". This is one of the Westletons "Best" Rooms and I can say we were not let down.
The room itself has low beams and although I am tall, my head was still clear. It has a lovely romantic feel to the room and the bed and furnishings are of a high standard, right down to the delightful home made biscuits. Then we come to the bathroom which has a lovely wet room and very large roll top bath where 2 can easily relax.
We ate that night at the restaurant and that was our first encounter of Frederick, and being in customer service myself, I was amazed at his detailed knowledge of the menus both evening and the breakfast, and also his attention to our meal etc. He has to be one of the best restaurant managers I have encounted, the food itself is quite stunning some of the meals are very complex but the steak and ale pie is a pure delight.
The second night I had arranged for us to be moved (without my partner's knowledge)
as it was her birthday the hotel had placed flowers and home made chocolates in the room which was the "Swan room" with 4 poster bed and the roll top bath in the actual room, watching Tv in the bath is something not to be missed!
The breakfast was also very nice with good choice and great local produce. All in all this place is an excellent place to stay for a romantic getaway or even a base for visting the local area. The price itself is very good for the level of accomodation and service provided. I would not hesitate in staying here again and I would recomend it highly to anyone that asked.

The Tripadvisor Ratings say it all. Very mixed. Great staff, a lovely setting, everything going for it but....it doesn't quite hit the mark. The 'best' room we had was ok but not wonderful. The bar is lovely and 'local' and the restaurant very pleasant but the food was inconsistant - one night suberb another very average. The waiting staff are great (especially one night when dealing with a particularly loud-mouthed/foul-mouthed diner who really should have been asked to leave) but the feeling was one of the place being under-staffed, over-worked and therefore either struggling financially or being penny-pinching in realising its full potential.
Would we return? Yes, because the staff are really lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxed but the management have to wise-up to the fact that they are working under very onerous conditions and that is reflected in the ambience of the hotel.

We have just spent a couple of nights at The Westleton Crown and had a lovely time. We took advantage of the Times offer of Wine, Dine and Stay free offer which came out at the end of 2008. This meant that our accommodation was free but we had to spend £75 per night in the restaurant. This was no hardship as we easily spent this on a 3-course meal for 2 people and a bottle of wine. It didn't include breakfast which we didn't have as we thought £12.50 per person was on the expensive side. The meals were imaginative, tasty and well presented. The service was good and I thought the staff were most attentive and appeared to care about people's enjoyment.
The room we had was very comfortable with duckdown pillows and duvet, it was very clean and the complimentaries well stocked.
The inn itself is between Southwold and Aldeburgh so is in a good location. We loved Southwold and even though it was wintertime, it had a nice feel about it, being quiet and genteel - perhaps this is different in the summer?
All in all, I would thoroughly recommend the hotel and restaurant for a short break.

Chic room (walk-in shower and roll-top bath!) at an honest price.

The staff are proud of where they work, very friendly and most are local, so they were interested to know where our winter rambling had taken us (Jake especially).

The bar enjoys a central village location and boasts a big fire; breakfast and the fish and chips on the first night were a delight.

Room for improvement? A digital radio in the room and less gravy on the steak perhaps, but I am very difficult to please.

There are a number of social areas for residents to escape to if the weather resigns some to stay indoors, but we were blessed with blue skies and lapwings .... A treat.

Stayed at the Westelton for 2 nights after xmas. We were staying with a baby and normally want a big enough bathroom to put the cot in so we dont disturb him. Food was excellent at lunchtimes and evenings although didnt rate the breakfast apart from the home made bread. We did find though that at 3 different meals, our order was messed up and we didnt get what we asked for. The staff however were apologetic and did take the meals back. The room was comfortable although i also felt it should be rated a high standard B & B as for a hotel we felt the bed was too small (a standard double) and the fixtures/fittings were quite basic. The rooms do not seem to be that sound proof. We stayed in Robin and could hear everytime someone was walking on the gravel outside and cars were noisy cominin and out of hte car park. The staff were extrememly accomodating and helpful which makes a very pleasant change. Overall, we had a lovely stay and breakfast was the only down fall. We guessed the chef is different to the evening chef !!!!

It was a last minute decision to visit the Westleton Crown for a one night stay. The hotel itself was delightful, restful and cosy.

We were shown to our room and on first viewing were very happy with the standard of cleanliness and facilities. The bathroom was freezing cold and the radiator was not on. My husband tried to put the radiator on but there was air in it and it would not warm up. In turn this affected the other radiator that was creaky and noisy. When we spoke to reception about this they offered to move us in to an identical room across the hall. They were most apologetic about the heating difficulties. We put it down to being an old building!

The dinner was superb as was the breakfast in the conservatory. the meal for both meals was outstanding and beautifully presented. The homemade bread was amazing. Unfortunately the roaring fire shown on the hotel's website was a small flame that went out within half an hour! The absence of the fire did affect the atmosphere of the dining room during the evening.

All in all, it was a delightful hotel and I would be happy to recommend it to my family and friends.

It was our silver wedding anniversary and I booked a weekend at the Crown. The accommodation was clean and the the bar is warm with a lovely real fire. The staff are friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant both nights and had breakfast. The evening meals were very good, although we felt that the vegetables were very slightly undercooked.

The breakfast is nice with homemade bread, delicious mushrooms, and the bacon has great flavour, although I would not recommend the scrambled egg which is very rich.

The village itself is quiet and very pleasant, and Westleton is only approximately 15 minutes from Southwold and 10 minutes from Dunwich.
