“Food hell in the 'Skyline Restaurant'”

The £22 three course Thursday night dinner in the 'Skyline Restaurant' was horrendously bad. So called 'Catch of The Day' was a heated up, greasy smoked mackerel fillet with a huge mound of 'minted mushy peas' which had an overpowering, terrible taste of dried mint. The only edible parts of the main course were a small quantity of boiled potatos and a few carrots. The dessert of frozen yoghurt was nearly completely melted and served with some cherries in a sauce which tasted very bitter. The best course was the starter of melon which I had without the parma ham - straight from the fridge and far too cold but ripe and juicy.
Of course one doesn't go for a night at a Greyhound Stadium for the food but this was truly dreadful.
Food aside, the service was very good, particularly when some of our group complained about their steaks (which attracted a £4 supplement!) and replacements were offered with a smile and without hesitation. The drinks are good value too and cheaper than most pubs in the area. I certainly had no complaints about the bottle of Merlot at £14. What a shame that the dismal food spoiled what was otherwise a good night out.

We went for a birthday visit on a visit that included a free bet and 3 course meal. The centre itself was ok and the restaurant had good views of the track. The racing was fun and there was a good atmosphere. Sadly the only down point was the food. One of the worst meals I've had. Poor fish starter that tasted frozen and arrived barely warm. The main was chicken that barely had any meat on the bone and was covered in a terrible sauce and the pudding was tasteless. Was a shame on an otherwise interesting evening. I understand they're busy and you don't go for fine food but the basics need to improve. Would go back but without dinner

If you like a drink and a gamble then this place is great otherwise I would steer clear. The whole place is tired, worn and stuck in the 90's. The menu for food looks dire as does the conveyor belt option serving chips with chips. There is a very strange mix and people dressed up to the nines as if its Ascot and then loads of chav's out for a piss up.

I will say, it is a laugh, having a flutter is always fun and if you go with low expectations then you'll enjoy yourselves.

Sitting in the right place makes all the difference. Try to get near the winning line . Seating of 6 is on lower level then goes up in tiers for 4 people. Food can be hit and miss but on the whole not too bad . I take a group of girls from work on Thursdays and what a laugh we have. So go ahead and have some fun . It does not matter if you do not know what you are doing, just go on the names of the dogs. Good luck. Some days are free (Wednesday and Sunday ) Thursday and Saturday you pay.

Venue very basic but what more do you want when going out to watch the racing?
Oh yea the food! Fantastic cuisine good & knowledgeable staff choice of drinks good too if you like your alcohol.
Will I visit again, definately!
Better value on Sundays if you're free especially with family members.
