“Just Average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014

Given that you are going to watch doggies chasing hares chasing a best bet this is part of a good evenings entertainment.....BUT NOT if you want a quiet/romantic/relaxing evening out.
The food is decididly average and the seating is very very minimal. Always rushed and more than sometimes cold it is all about turnover and cash betting.
However, the entertainment is good and a good win on the doggies would easily pay for the food BUT not the drinks!!

“Pleasently Surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

Went to the Stadium on Saturday night and was simply dreading it, had plenty to eat before I went because of the criticisms I read on this site. There were six of us and we had a table in the front by the finishing line. The choices of food ranged from the Sea bass ( which I have to say was very well cooked two fillets chips peas and carrots), chicken, pork belly and steak, everyone enjoyed their main course, no complaints at all even the steak was cooked perfectly. To be fair the starter, we all had greek salad, was just 0k, desserts ranged from dipping doughnuts. ice cream and cheese and biscuits, all very edible and enjoyed
Yes it is not a cheap night out, but we thoroughly enjoyed the evening and had no complaints, there was a capacity house, we were served quickly and efficiently.

“Good fun and good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014

I picked up a Groupon voucher through work which included entry for two, plus a burger or hot dog and a drink.
We got there around 6:30 pm (the first race was 7:31pm) and checking in was totally simple. They swapped our Groupon voucher for a four part ticket. You just handed over each part at the appropriate juncture; entry voucher at the door, drinks voucher at the bar, food voucher at the café and we could have used the re-entry voucher if we'd popped out of the venue but we didn't.

The entry was for the downstairs area. As we were early, we managed to find a table very easily. My husband had a beer and I had a white wine - both perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, my husband couldn't finish his burger as it was not the best example around. I ate all my sausage in my hot dog which was huge! The portion of chips were huge too which we had to pay for but we probably could have just had one portion between the two of us.

The betting was explained inside the booklet we were handed on entry, detailing the races. We just put on £1 "place" bets and it seemed to pay off as we came home about £13 up! They did try and explain the way the dogs ran so you could at least try and work out who might win. Sadly it wasn't overly obvious but as we came out up I guess we worked it out near enough.
The bookies outside have a minimum of £5 bet so we only tried them once and luckily one of our dogs came in and so we go our money back plus £2!

One of the negatives to the evening was the fact that everyone seemed to be smoking outside and there was no where to get away from it. I came home coughing and stinking of cigarette smoke. Perhaps they could look into maybe having an area outside where people who don't want to be exposed to the cigarette smoke can stand.

Obviously we were attending the races on the 1st of March so expected it to be cold and wrapped up accordingly but it did cause us to leave before all twelve races were run.

Lastly the queues to place your bets were horrendous. One race, we only just managed to get our bet placed before the race started. It seemed there were only six people manning the betting booths. I would have though at least another two staff members would have helped.

I really enjoyed seeing the dogs run and appreciated their physique and power. The "marshals" putting them in the cage seemed to do so with care and attention, massaging thigh muscles to ensure they didn't go running and pull anything. The dogs seemed to genuinely want to run as there was no hesitation about walking to the starting boxes. They also seemed to run with all their might after that hare but we didn't see one of them catch. :) Surely if they didn't want to do it they would just sit down?

All in all we had an enjoyable evening and would return but we will go back upstairs to the inside area as we've been up there before and the problem with the cold/smoking does not exist and the standard of the food is much, much higher.

I suggest you give it a try but definitely go expecting to loose your money....

“An absolute bargain Sunday Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

We organised a large group to attend the Sunday Lunch meeting. The bargain price of £12.50 includes a two course meal, a programme, a table right next to the finishing line window, waiter to serve drinks and the food at the table and a lady collecting bets and bringing back any winnings.
The food has improved dramatically from the fare that was served up last year. The restaurant manager even visited every table in the sit down restaurant to enquire about quality etc.
This is a really great venue for a different sunday lunch.

“This could be so much more.”

Went here as a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Having been here on a number of occasions we were this time a bit disappointed. It didn't help that on arrival at 630 the doors were still closed and it was tipping down , no offer of come and stand in the dry !!!! Anyhow we collected our tickets and went upstairs to the dining room £29.50 for a 3 course meal and coffee a free pick six ticket and a free race card , the dining room is over 4/5 levels and looking tired , you do get waiter service and some one comes to collect your bets and return winnings (if you are lucky enough) the meal was fine apart from the prawns and the donuts , the prawns were shell and head on and yes I knew that but they were desperately crying our for a dip of some description which left them very dry and bland , the chicken supreme was quite frankly excellent but the veg that came with it was rock hard and nearly inedible and the boiled potatoes were boring (roast or even chips would have complimented better) the "dippin donuts" were to say the least like a bit of old shoe leather , dry and tasteless and if they were sugar coated then my eyesight seriously needs testing. The chocolate sauce was fine that came with it but didn't make up for the dryness. Should have had the sticky toffee pudding which had the most delicious toffee sauce. Our charming waited we had seemed to be really busy and didn't get to our drinks as often as we would have liked and plates took an age to be cleared.
The toilets on the restaurant level are quite frankly horrible , not particularly dirty but with paint peeling and one hand dryer that wasn't working , lack of toilet roll and freezing cold. We love the atmosphere here and love to come on a Saturday but the place seems to be going downhill ..... it seriously needs an injection of "new" and a better attention paid to the menu ...............
