Description: At Franco’s Osteria, we keep true to the soul of Italian Osterias, whilst providing a contemporary drinking and dining experience. We provide a large selection of regional speciality wines from around Italy in a small, rustic and authentic setting. Alongside the wines, our seasonally changing set menu is designed to be shared amongst the table in a traditional, rustic, family style. We take influences from all over Italy, using local, seasonal ingredients, whilst also importing fine Italian speciality products .

“Authentic, friendly, good food”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Our first visit last weekend - best to book a table as the restaurant is quite small (great for couples and small parties but probably not comfortable for groups bigger than 4 or 5).
Menu is shorter than a typical restaurant but this is a good thing: dishes are nicely presented and freshly prepared. No minestrone soup on our visit (I'm a minestrone fan) and the starters are a little limited so we settled on an antipasto sharing platter - really very good.
Linguine with lobster main courses went down well; I had a steak - slightly underdone for my taste but I'm convinced most diners would have found it delicious.
For dessert we tried the lemon sorbet - excellent.
The wine list is not too extensive and I forget what we selected but it was perfectly pleasant and reasonably priced.
Unlike most parts og Hove and Brighton there is a bit of parking in the local area but access by bus is limited.
Overall, a good meal with knowledgeable and friendly service - I think our bill came to £33 per head. Worth a visit!

“Very special!”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We went for lunch with 2 children - a lovely relaxed atmosphere with the most excellent service. Friendly and intimate with quite spectacular food. With so many poor restaurants in Brighton, this was an absolute delight.

“It was just OK”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We decided to try Franco as it is just very close from where we live. The good thing is that it is better than other Italian restaurants in the area (i.e. Otello, Orsino). However, I don't think that Franco is the best Italian restaurant I've ever tried. The food was just OK. It was not bad, but it wasn't special either. Presentation could be better. I had linguine with lobster. The linguine was well-cooked, the sauce was just ok. The portion is good. The service is OK too. The restaurant is quite small, so it can be quite hectic on busy nights like Saturday night. Having said that, the restaurant interior is quite charming. Overall, we had just an average experience.

Went here for dinner tonight and it is absolutely the nuts!
Small, friendly, authentic, homemade. Lovely (slightly crazy) people where the Limoncello flows freely. Best meal in ages... Highly recommended!
Thanks guys - will see you again :-)
