Adastral Hotel

Reviewed 5 December 2013

Stayed just the one night in a single room. Breakfast was excellent - worthy of a 4-star hotel. Price was good considering I booked 3 days before the stay, and the location in Hove is no problem if you are willing to use a bus or walk a couple of kilometres to the centre of Brighton. However, the room was very small (more of a broom cupboard) and the bed was shorter than the norm. The sheets, room and hotel in general smelt of stale marijuana, but I think the smell was due to the strong disinfectant that some hotels use these days. It wasn't pleasant so I suggest the hotel make changes here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: I would not recommend a single room - it was very small.

Just returned from a weekend stay in the Adastral . This hotel should not be classified as a 4 star hotel nearer to a 2 or 3 but saying that the friendliness of staff and service made up for this. The breakfast was good quality with plenty of choice.

I had read the reviews which are mixed so was not sure what to expect. What my group experienced was good value for money. We had a four bed room which was probably only for three but we managed. It was clean, tidy and quiet with all the usual facilities. There were plenty of plugs for charging laptops and mobile phones. The hair drier worked well but closet space was a little cramped but plenty of drawers.

The breakfasts are amazing with plenty of choice and servings are generous. The staff are very helpful, willing and friendly. We used one of the two parking spaces and our bus passes as the bus service is frequent and direct to Brighton city centre.

Room Tip: We had Room 11 at the top of the stairs and found this absolutely without problems.

I stayed 2 nights for business. This is not a nice place to stay during the summer months, the room was small and the hotel is full of students. I was asked to pick a breakfast slot and then expected to wait until after 8.30 until the students had finished, this is not mentioned in the booking process. I told the lady on reception, who was really nice, that I would skip the meal and get something later as would have been later for my meeting. she arranged for the breakfast to be brought up to my room, which was nice but difficult balancing the meal on my lap. the bathroom was tiny and only had a shower and smelt damp, the cubicle door had worn a groove in the sink, because of the lack of space when opening the shower door. All in all this hotel is old and worn.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

Okay some earlier reviews say derogatory comments but we have stayed here over many years as family member lives nearby and its convenient for us to be near her...
However this time.. 30th August 2013..we were so impressed with the lovely welcome and complementary tea and coffee served when sitting waiting for her to join us..and every other time we sat about as a group we were offered this!. so very generous...
Its in Hove - not Brighton .. and very near the sea.
Fabulous breakfasts with- help your self cereals - orange & apple juice and then choice....We had.. 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon.
pudding, mushrooms, toast, marmalade, jam . tea and coffee..everything exceptional quality...
Feddy the lovely guy in charge couldn't do enough for us.. so we will be back !! Thankyou

Room Tip: Just ask what you require...rooms 40 & 41 are on top floor and have fridge. microwave. hot ring...

It is amazing to see that this hotel boasts a 4 star badge at the entrance to the hotel. It is at best a 2 star. The room that I was given was tiny but clean and the shower again clean but no power , just a trickle.
On the positive side all of the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was top class but you had to book a time slot in advance which is strange.
I was annoyed at the fact that the hotel can pose as a four star which is the reason that I opted to stay there.
I won't be back

Well where do i start, 4 under 30 females stayed here, when we arrived we were giving our key and directed to the room, we were also told that we must choose a time slot for our breakfast as it gets bery busy, we rearranged the beds and found alot of rubbish, socks all from previous guests where obviously the room wasnt cleaned correctly. We slept anyway as it was late and we were all tired. When we woke for breakfast to make our allotted time slot of 9am we were told to sit at a table that hadnt been cleared from previous guests, we then waited an hour to be spoken to and have our table cleared and relayed, then a further 15mins before they took our order. All the while other guest arriving after is were waited on hand and foot! 3 of our breakfasts arrived one of which. Being wrong the 4th of our breakfast arrived 10mins later, all breakfast were ston cold and our toast was either warmed bread or burnt. We came back in after a day out and all fell asleep promptly! At 2am 2 of us were woken by a drunk man entering our bedroom with his a key... We were scared to death but he left after a few minutes! When we woke in the morning we decided that we wouldnt waste our time with breakfast and just got ready to leave! On checking out and asking to make a complaint we were told that this was the cheapest hotel around and it wouldnt normally happen. We were told they could take £10 of our £374 bill(for 2 nights b&b) we found this un acceptable and asked to speak to the manager to which they replied that he was in a meeting( they had spoken to him not 5 mins before hand)! Alot of whispering between the staff was happening!
We were appalled by the service we recieved! All they continue to offer is a free night at another time! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
