We visited Hove last week and just wanted some Italian food so spotted Barcode on the Main Street and popped in there. Service very quick, friendly staff and 2 for 1 cocktails. Food was very nice too - pricing not expensive either

Heard a lot about this place as it seems to be one of the busier restaurants in Hove
Weird interior with no less than 6 flat screen TVs playing a video loop of a waterfall. Why they feel their diners need to be treated to this feature, god only knows?

The service is average, the food is overpriced and average. My starter at £8 consisted of 5 small king prawns in some garlic wine sauce.I had a lasagne which was fine, but being nothing any better than you could get in Sainsbury's The wine is hugely overpriced (£27 for a bottle you could get for £6), and then they charge 10% service charge on your bill. So the already overpriced menu is , in fact, 10% more expensive than you think.

I hugely dislike the practise of "service charges" in restaurants, myself being from a catering industry since 14yrs old. Its a hard one, because you kinda have to rely on waiters and waitresses and feel incredibly bad if you choose to take off the 'optional' ..which is why they do it...a guilt trip. I feel prices should reflect ALL overheads and not rely on customers to supplement service staff. This is not the USA, not should it be the same as their system. So all in all we spent £76 for a mediocre dining experience.

Will not be returning

This would have been a 4 circle restaurant had it not been for the ridiculously greedy policy of adding 10% service charge to every bill. And the waiter said that he wouldn't get it anyway!!!! So - effectively, the restaurant is increasing their prices by 10% in a fashion that at best would be described as misleading.

Service charges are marginally OK for large parties (although should be removed when asked) When one is dining alone or as a small group, one must have the right to tip to the extent one would like.

The silly thing about this was that not only would the waitstaff have merited more than 10% as a tip (which we gave anyway) but the food was good enough for the restaurant to have honesty charged another 10% within the listed price on the menu.

I'll definitely go back there but I'll leave immediately if that "10% service charge automatically added" is still there.

Serving really good, mainly Utalian food with excellent starters like hummus. Huge portions. Well priced. Great service and atmosphere.
