We live in Bath and always travel to Shepton Mallet to visit Whitstones, it may be a bit of a way to travel, but every time it is well worth the visit.
We have never had a bad meal here, the portions are huge, and the food is always hot and fresh.
The service is always welcoming, efficient and very friendly

Been many times before, had always been excellent !
Pleasant welcome and a nice clean table away from the busy area by the front window. Order taken smartly enough and drinks arrived almost instantly, two portions of cod and chips then followed with one pea fritter as ordered, ok so far! Batter was almost honeycombe crisp and had definately been over cooked which unfortunately for us followed through to the cod which was almost dry through over cooking, chips and pea fritter were fine. Besides the cod being overcooked it was also very thin which didnt help matters, usually a nice juicy chunky fillet arrives, we were disappointed but didnt mention to the staff (chef was at fault). The gents loo desperately needs an overhaul, hasnt been done in years and looks rather badly stained in all the yucky places, hand dryer is underpowered to the point of not worth the effort.

Clean airy atmosphere and well spaced roomy tables. Convenient parking. Friendly, polite smiling staff. Casual but not slack. Great menu with all the classics. Good prompt service. Very generous portion of good quality tartar sauce served with my scampi, which was cooked to perfection along with the chips. Alcohol licensed with local ciders etc. Music a sensible volume. Very tasty non greasy and well cooked chips. Very clean toilets. Heard it was a good chippy and I wasn't disappointed.

12pm on a Sunday. We ordered 2x large cod and chips for 2 adults and 2 kids. There was plenty. The fish was fantastic and better than my previous best which was Rick Steins chippy in Padstow. Batter was crisp and not greasy. The fish was huge, meaty and perfectly cooked. Curry sauce was a decent sized tub for once.
Definitely recommend.

After a short and disappointing trip to a cafe up the road my sister and i decided to pop here for some lunch before continuing our journey from Bristol to weymouth with our two younger sisters the chip shop was busy which is always a good sign and service was efficient between us we had chips, half spit roast chicken, fishcakes, curry sauce and the southern fried chicken bites everything was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful best fish and chips I've had for a long time and we are looking forward to our next drive this way to visit again and try some other lovely things from the extensive and interesting menu
