Review of Harlequin Cafe

Harlequin Cafe
Cuisines: Cafe
Description: The quintessentially British Harlequin Cafe is the perfect spot for afternoon tea, or coffee and cake by the fire. The cafe has a relaxed and quirky feel, reminiscent of a vintage tearoom with its panelled walls and old film set tables. Keep cosy by the fire and enjoy a cup of tea or hot chocolate in one of Her Majesty's Coronation mugs. We also offer an extensive range of teas and herbal infusions, from specialist local companies, including Comins Tea and Tregothnan. Indulging? Opt for freshly brewed coffee and cake!

Had lunch in cafe, a flat white is so small I thought it was a expresso £2.60, the spelt flat bread came with a minute salad all for the princely sum of £8.50.You would expect to pay these prices in Bath or London

“A cut above.”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

This is a very unusual cafe in that they seem to have got everything right.....from the quirky decor ( LOVED IT! ) to the short but interesting menu based largely around the use of spelt flour from the Sharpham Estate. Flat breads with interesting fillings, risotto, soups...that kind of thing. Quality ingredients beautifully cooked with both flair and imagination.

Our one very small complaint was dealt with swiftly and with grace. Staff appeared to genuinely enjoy serving their customers.

What a lovely cafe. Well done!!

“Lovely food and the best cake!”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

We have eaten here twice- latterly last weekend. On our return trip, it was clear that this was the place to go for lunch. The food did not disappoint. The lovely egg mayo sandwich on spelt bread is divine- one of the best I've tasted. My mother said that the coffee and walnut cake she had was the best she had ever tasted and, having sampled some of it too, I am inclined to agree! Thanks again! Am sure we will be back!

“Lovely place, lovely food and great service”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

Came here for lunch today and was greeted by warm welcoming staff, we looked at the menu and struggled to choose as everything sounded so tempting! When the food came I was impressed by the amount of food for the price we paid and it was delicious, did not leave a thing!:) everything is better than expected and will definitely be recommending this cafe.

“Great service and lovely mellow coffee”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

We enjoyed a really nice cup of coffee and and fabulously moist dairy and gluten free orange cake. There was a great selection of cakes for all tastes. Decor is lovely and the parlour area of the cafe does not feel at all cramped (as it can do in so many cafes) Would def recommend a trip here especially if all the shopping in the designer outlet has worn you out and you fancy a bit of old fashion luxury.
