“Ideal for Bath & West Showground”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This hotel is about 2 miles from the Bath & West Showground so was ideal for the New Wine Christian Festival. Although close the main road we were not disturbed by the traffic. The room was clean and there was a roomy shower in the en-suite. We had dinner one evening and the food was fresh & tasty. Breakfast each morning consisted of a "help yourself bar" for cereals, fruit and juices. This was followed by a full English breakfast if you wanted it. This was excellent value for the price we paid.

lovely pub, breakfast lovely and meals reasonable and well cooked. Room clean and bed comfy, but omg so very hot in there, maybe a fan in the rooms would help, staff friendly especially the lady who booked us in and does the lunch shift,( sorry didnt get your name) minor problem with the kitchen fans one night, but when i went down the landlady apologised and shut it down. My only complaint was the shower stall, the shower was good , hot and powerful enough, but there is mould around the edges on the sealant, and the while the toilet and sink were clean, the outside of shower doors on the slider were pretty dirty. maybe a little more coffee and milk would be nice too. but overall thankyou

Room Tip: rooms on top floor come with beams, couple of headaches lol

This review is a pre-emptive strike. To explain, we were in this pub/inn tonight and overheard a very loud dissatisfied customer arguing (in increasingly loud tones) with the proprietor - something to do with getting a refund on his room. The owners were polite, calm and seemed to be dealing with this customer in a courteous way, but he was going on and on, demanding they give him a gesture of some sort, otherwise he'd 'write a bad review on Trip Advisor'.

So, before he does that (don't like blackmailers!), this is to say that the Highwayman pub is a pleasant pub on the corner, with traditional pub decor and very helpful and friendly staff. We stopped by for a meal, which was well-priced, tasty and good-sized portions. We had a little time to kill, so sat on the sofas after dinner and watched the Games with the locals and chatted to the owners. It's standard country pub Fayre and I'd imagine the rooms are the same - but they're nice, pleasant and helpful. If the rude chap posts his review (whoever he is) I'd be inclined to ignore it.

Stayed at The Highwayman before visiting The Bath and West Showground ,Very pleasant staff and good pub beer and food also excellent breakfast ,room was clean and very comfortable ,would stay here again ,n.b if you have a problem with stairs ask for a lower floor room top flight a bit steep for us " oldies".

Room Tip: rooms at the back are probably coolerand for people with walking problems ask for lower floor rooms

The hotel is at a good location, and is easy to notice. It has a large car park with lots of parking spaces. The town centre is within walking distance, albeit not that near (allow yourself at least 20 minutes to be safe!) The room was clean, with a rather spacious shower that had a good pressure. The staff were friendly and assisted wherever and whenever they could (checking in, cleaning up, checking out etc.) The wi-fi wasn't working well (one of their wireless routers was not working) but you could get a signal at the bar area. An overall pleasant stay.

Room Tip: My room was near the back entrance (11), which was good in my opinion

Booked this hotel for just one night in June. The room was adequate for our needs though a little cramped. The breakfast was good and the evening meal in the inn was good pub grub. I would use it again as a stop over.

A really nice little hotel that isn't expensive is getting rare. The Highwayman Inn offers a good service which translates into excellent value for money. Given there is a bar restaurant open every day as well, it is an extremely useful place to stay as you don't have to go out at night after a busy day.

The bar is friendly and warm, typically British country pub atmosphere. In the restaurant part you can order a nicely varied range of food which is well presented and correctly cooked.

Breakfast is very good - bacon, eggs, sausage etcetera plus cereals and toast.

Overall a very reasonable price for what is on offer.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are over-heated but you can open the windows. there is a little traffic noise but...
