“Silver Wedding Anniversary”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Went to the Crown Hotel with family (ten in total) to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary. We were all really looking forward to a top class evening of good food in a modern contemporary restaurant surroundings. We were not let down, if anything the evening surpassed all our expectations. The attention from all the staff was just the right level, all the food was of an excellent standard. Thank for a great night.

Booked table for 6 friends at quite short notice, but this was helpfully accommodated. Very modern and clean restaurant. Perfect round table chosen in good position to give sense of privacy. Staff very friendly and helpful, especially the Assistant Manager on duty. There is a good selection on both the food and drink menus and all reasonably priced. Service and attention to our needs was excellent throughout the evening and staff knowledgeable about the menu's and recommendations. All party members were pleased with their choices, which were well prepared and presented, if anything they were very generous!!. A very good evening and meal experience. Would we go again - absolutely.

I booked a table at the Crown 3 weeks ago to celebrate a birthday for a family member. The hotel was fully aware of the reason for our reservation. On arrival the staff had to separate a table to provide us with a table that was appropriate for the number on the reservation which immediately gave the impression that they were not prepared. Whilst the dining room is very modern and is furnished with good quality furniture it totally lacks any character. The food was of a good standard but the service left me dumb founded; as stated at the top of this review, this is not 4* and anyone who thinks it is I am afraid is in for a big surprise when they do visit a 4* venue, by that I mean a pleasant one. The service and the lack of training is actually dumb founding, whilst the staff are pleasant they are not professional. Would I recommend this hotel to anyone, never and unfortunately the relative whose birthday we were celebrating actually lives in Bawtry so this has definitely fallen off their list, there are much better establishments in Bawtry that will be able to provide service that compliments the chef's hard work. I would rate this hotel as a cross between a Harvester and any other High Street chain. Extremely disappointing.

Went with partner and friend for a Sunday lunch. I should have learned by now not to order beef in England (I am a Brit but live in Canada where they only kill meat once). I, and friend, ordered 'roast Scottish topside of beef'. Friend asked for just one slice...got three. I asked for medium rare...or what they might do close to that. Waiter came to clear plates away and found that I had only taken one mouthful of the meat. When I commented that this meat had been cooked for maybe 48 hours, he said he would mention to the cook. Never saw waiter again...nor the cook (perhaps he/she wishes to be referred to as 'Chef'. Ha! Ha!.

Went to the front desk to pay bill. Nice woman asked how the food was. I explained. She gave me a refund.

At 19.95 quid for 5 courses, it was, on the face of it, a fair price. Other courses were OK.

Never again.

The Crown Hotel was linked with our VIP trip to see the Vulcan bomber at Robin Hood airport. Following a stunning tour of this fabulous bomber, taking to the air again this year, we checked in that evening and were immediately impressed with the warm welcome we received. Our room was spacious and attractive and fitted with all mod cons and an exceptionally comfortable bed. When we went down to dinner we were seated in a cosy alcove and presented with an extensive and adventurous menu. The food, when it arrived, did not disappoint; the Thai fishcakes were particularly delicious. Everything else was of an equally high standard and beautifully presented. Amanda, and the other staff who waited on us, were extremely charming and professional, and added to the pleasure of our meal. Breakfast the next morning was equally good. All in all, we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Well done the "Vulcan to the Sky Club" for recommending it to us.

Room Tip: We only have experience of the one room, but are confident that all the others would be equally good...

We had knowledge of the hotel before booking but only as a individual member of the public visiting for an overnight stay. From the begining Tori and Katie were extremely helpful when we made the booking paying attention to our every request. Upon arrival on Friday teatime we all met in the bar for pre dinner drinks. We were a party of 12 work colleagues from Techman Engineering in Chesterfield, the service at dinner was nothing short of excellent, in total we were attended by 5 staff all playing their part in making our meal special. Saturday morning met us with an good hearty breakfast that set us up for our full day of business presentations. Lynn was our dedicated assistant who furbished us with tea and coffee on an as and when basis throughout the day. We had a very tight timeframe for our lunch break, however the restaurant staff again made this a seamless event. Excellant quality and service. I would recommend this venue to any company wishing to create a good atmosphere for a working weekend.

Having just returned on what was probably the busiest weekend... valentines what can I say, it had fantastic service from the moment we checked in, to being seated in a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. Our meal was spectacular a mouth watering experience. Breakfast the next morning did not fail our expectations it was delicious.
The rooms have every thing you will need and are of a comfortable and clean standard. Ideal place to relax and visit some of the wine bars in Bawtry. We will be defiantly returning for sure. Thank you
