“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 19 March 2014 via mobile

I stayed here on the 6th of March, one night only with 8 days parking.
Check in was perfect the room perfect, over all a great stay.
Just a small niggle the bar lacked any sort of atmosphere, so much so we went to the Premier for drinks.

Stayed at this hotel before flying on holiday. Very good check in service, everything ready for us. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Free wifi. The meal in the restaurant was very tasty. Very good local beer available in the bar area. The location is perfect - a three minute walk to the airport doors. Will use this hotel from now on whenever I fly from Newcastle and need overnight accommodation.

stayed here for two nights at the end of a business trip to England. easy access to parking underground (5GBP/nt). walk to airport terminal, so i just returned my rental car and had no trouble catching an early flight in the morning. The restaurant - Fratello's served excellent risotto and fish, but was a bit pricy by the time i finished (2 malbec's later).
I should've worked off the scrumptious dinner at the small exercise room (few machines and free weights), but i chose to tuck in for a good nights sleep on King size bed.
Room itself was cramped in terms of a small bathroom, but nice size desk and very small sitting area- standard not upgraded room. The window was slightly misaligned, but there was absolutely no airplane noise that came through. Very good night's rest.

Room Tip: ALl rooms are good i think. Great noise insulation for airport hotel. No problems.

We have stayed hear twice now. The first time no problems.

This time the vent above the door was noisy even though the air con was switched off.

I noticed at least one other reviewer has had the same problem.

We were in room 101.

We both had a bad nights sleep. I suppose I should have complained.

I like this hotel it's clean and convenient for the airport.

We enjoyed our evening meal in the restaurant.

We are staying again in June. If we experience the same noise problem, we won't stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without a noisy vent

Don't get the 'hot cookie' on arrival thing. Not the healthiest thing in the world but at least it was warmer than the bar, and bedroom for that matter. Flashy big room but rather let down by being cold and the heating was provided by electric floor standing electric heaters, which was a bit cheap looking.

Food in the Italian was fine.....until the onion rings arrived. What on gods good earth was the chef doing? Onion rings deep fried.......in what can only be described as doughnut batter. Huge things, incredibly greasy and vile. We complained and the waitress said they did look a bit funny and the chef had not been happy with them so he would make some more. Hey presto we get a tray of about 20 more...exactly the same as the first lot. Felt sick afterward eating just half of one and it ruined a good steak.

Very handy for the airport and the beds were comfy. Shower was useless, very little power and it flooded the bathroom floor. Breakfast was ok but not worth the £10 charge. Just the usual chain hotel experience and not overly expensive but could do better.

Room Tip: Check Shower function on arrival.

We stayed here on our wedding night as we were flying to New York early the next morning.

The room service was fantastic and they even put roses on the bed for us.

Fantastic overall experience - the manager personally took us to our room.

The only improvement would be the selection of meals via room service.

The hotel is very good and very clean, and food is very acceptable. It's a little pricey... and it would be nice if the reception staff could be just a little more tolerant of our idiosyncracies and inexperience. It's not everyday we stay at the DoubleTree! But we shall certainly stay there again if we fly from Newcastle airport (which is excellent) if only for the 'free' parking.
