“Lovely week at Coconut Bay”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

stayed here for a week in June, hotel was really nice, rooms were cleaned everyday, food was good, breakfast was best there wasnt too much choice at dinner and tea but perfectly fine.

We used the spa which was amazing, the waterslides are brill and spent loads of time in the lazy river! The beach is lovely there are locals trying to sell things to you but they arent pushy and are polite.

Its literally 5mins from the airport if that! great after a 9 hour flight!!!

The staff were really friendly, would defo recommend and go again!

On arrival once you have collected your cases make sure you do not accept the men who offer you trolleys at the airport this is a scam they want money for walking your cases 10 metres, you can collect a trolley for free and the taxis rank is just behind the doors. They say that you cannot take trolleys beyond the door but this is not true just ignore them and walk through the doors.

When me my husband and my 3yr old daughter got to the hotel it all looked great but when we checked in we were told that we could not be put on the a higher floor than the ground floor because we had booked a garden view room, so when booking a garden view room this means you are on the ground floor only. All floors above the ground floor are classed as sea view rooms but I am sure that even from the first floor you would not be able to see the sea in certain rooms.

The bedrooms are VERY dated we stayed in the Splash rooms and there is no flat screen televisions in these rooms, the bathrooms need a serious upgrade. On some days our room was not cleaned until 5pm which made it difficult with a 3 year old child. After going to Cuba and Mexico and staying in 4 star plus resorts I would rate this hotel as a 3 star. Also the key card broke several times for no reason, so we would all have to go to reception to get a new one and there was no apologies!

The food at the hotel is good, I think the buffet restaurant is better than the restaurants that you can book. You get 3 bookings at the themed restaurants per week but we only booked twice. Silks the Asian restaurant is the better of the three. We would like to thank Mary at the omelette bar who is a very nice lady and makes great omelettes. Also the grill bar is good for kids.

The entertainment is better on certain nights. The themed nights outside are a good idea but lighting is poor and it can be hard to see what you are eating if you eat after dusk.

The beach is very nice we had no issues with the sea weed. We went swimming in the sea which was very warm even though we were on the Atlantic side.

The kids pool is the best out of the three pools and this is where most of the entertainment is held, although I would say if your child cannot swim the pool gets deep quickly, so you have to keep a good eye on them at all times. We did welcome the breeze from the Atlantic which is nice when it is hot.

There are several choices for alcoholic drinks, they do have Absolute Vodka and Smirnoff Vodka which is included in the all inclusive package. You can purchase Premium drinks like grey goose, belvedere but you need to pay 2 dollars for these with tokens that you can purchase at reception. There are also 4 dollar drinks like Hennessey. We would say that it may be a good idea for the hotel to get some good Gin as several people said that they would have been happy to pay for this. Thank you to Mitch at the bar who is very helpful and a good laugh. We also recommend cocktails in the evening at Peter Johns bar upstairs from the bar tenders name we cannot remember, it begins with H, try is own cocktail called Sex in the Bush, it is the best!

At Kids Club they did not seem to interact with the children much, it was case of here is some paint now get on with it, our daughter is very outgoing and friendly but she went to kids club twice for an hour each time and didn’t want to go back after that. Several parents said the same thing.

We booked a taxis trip around the island with a driver called Tobierre he was great, very accommodating and could not do enough for us, I would recommend Tobierre to anyone who wishes to take a Taxis trip. We visited Jalousie beach which is between the Pitons what a great place. We also ate a Auntie Debbie’s restaurant which is about 20 minutes from the hotel in a taxis, this is very nice restaurant for some authentic Caribbean food. We went during the day but I would suggest going in the evening as we were told it was a lot better in the evening and can be popular, so book.

On departure a receptionist called Elva was soooooooo RUDE to me, so I complained to the manager who said he would have a word with her. As I was leaving I saw them talking and she was laughing, so obviously good customer service is not on this hotels mind! If this is the way the hotel acts towards customer service then they only deserve 3 stars. Also some of the waiting staff, shop keepers and pool staff can be rude.

For those of you watching the weather, the weather was very good for 2 weeks about 30 degrees plus, we had one bad day which was fine after several hot days.

The hotel does have a customer laundry tokens for the washers and dryers can be purchased for 2 dollars each.

Take insect repellent as you will get bitten by mosquitoes.

Overall we have a great family holiday and really liked St Lucia but we would not go back to the hotel, it is good value for money and you get what you pay for but manners do not cost anything and some staff seem to be lacking manners. A major plus point for this hotel is the transfer time as the roads around the island are poor.

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at Coconut Bay and have had a fantastic time.

HOTEL
The hotel itself is excellent, with plenty of space and things to do, whether it be active things like water polo and aqua aerobics, chilling at the lazy river or just sunbathing at the adult pool and taking a dip in the hot tub. There was also a swim up bar connected to the kids pool which was good. We never had any issue getting a sun lounger at any of the 3 pools.

There is also a sports bar showing sports 24 hours a day which was handy for anyone wanting to watch the Euro 2012 football. My wife also enjoyed a pedicure at the spa.

STAFF
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, people would always say hello to you as they passed by. We did a couple of trips that involved visiting other parts of the island and in general, we found all the St Lucian people to be very friendly and welcoming.

ROOM
We stayed on the ground floor on the Splash side and found the room to be good if a little dated. The beds were very comfortable and we didn't really spend that much in the room during the day so we felt this matched our needs perfectly. Being on the ground floor was very handy and we spent a couple of nights sitting on the patio outside our room with a cocktail listening to the entertainment.

FOOD
The food in the buffet restaurant was excellent, better than we had expected it to be. There was always a wide selection of food that was constantly being replenished. The local fish dishes were extremely tasty and meant you could try things you wouldn't get in the UK. There was also plenty of healthy options such as salad, fresh vegetables and fruit. The desserts were very tasty as well with plenty of choice each day.

We tried all 3 of the speciality restaurants with Calabash being the best, closely followed by Silks. Calabash (carribean cuisine) had 5 courses that were all delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant also had a nice ambience to it. We went to this restaurant twice and it was excellent both times.

We also went to Silks twice (asian). This was also very good and was a 4 course meal. The food was mainly chinese as opposed to Thai or Indian which was fine as we like chinese!

We also tried Capri (italian) which we found quite average to be honest. This was definitely not up to the standard of the other 2 restaurants and in fact we felt the food in the buffet restaurant was probably better.

BEACH
The beach isn't as bad as we expected after reading the reviews. Yes there is seaweed but this is constantly being cleared all day and did not stop us going into the sea. The water wasn't great for swimming in as the waves were quite big but you could still go in to paddle if you weren't a strong swimmer and the water was lovely and warm.

EXCURSIONS
We did 2 excursions during our stay – whale and dolphin watching and a half day island tour. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see any whales or dolphins (apparently there is an 80% chance of seeing them) but it was still a good trip as we got to go to Soufriere and see the pitons close up from the boat. Our driver Wilson was very informative on our drive to and from the boat.

As we didn't see any whales or dolphins, we were offered a chance to do the trip again for free – subject to a minimum of 4 other guests from the hotel paying to do the trip but they never got this required number so we were unable to go back.

We did the half day island tour with Lamie the next day which involved visiting the volcano and mud baths, botanical gardens and diamond falls. This was a good trip – the best part of the tour was definitely the mud baths which left you feeling very relaxed. On the way back Lamie took us to a local bar for lunch and some piton beer which was good.

A lot of the tours required a minimum of 4 guests for them to go ahead which we felt was quite restrictive as a lot of people in the hotel were there as couples.

WEATHER
As June is the start of the rainy season, we were concerned the weather might not be that great. It turned out to be the opposite as it only rained on 3 days for about 5 mins each day. Every day apart from one was sunny the rest of the time and the constant breeze was a nice relief from the heat. The tropical sun is very strong though – we started on a factor 50 and went down to factor 30 but still got a great tan.

OVERALL
This is a fantastic resort for both couples and families. There is lots to keep you occupied or you can just chill out by one of the pools if you prefer. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. The food is an excellent standard for an AI resort and there are plenty of non alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails to try as well. St Lucia is an amazing island with friendly people and we will definitely be back to Coconut Bay in the future!

Room Tip: splash side was OK for couples as well as families.

My hubby and I stayed at C Bay for our 1st wedding anniversary. We booked at the Splash side and didn't regret it! The Splash side has a bigger pool, the water park and the room was very comfortable and clean! There are no wristbands, so no restrictions as to where you can go within the resort. We have stayed at upscale resorts such as the RIUs and personally this resort had gone above and beyond those fancy resorts in regards to service and amenities.
The food is AMAZING, hands down the best food we've ever had in any of the AI's we stayed in the Caribbean. The Grill/snack bar had and extensive menu, not just hot dogs and burgers but salads, grilled fish, grilled chicken, steak sandwiches, chicken wings. There are 3 a la Carte restaurants, Calabash, in my opinion had the best food. The buffet was not very big, but the quality of the food was outstanding! The chef and his team should be commended for their work.
The beach was really nice. I read so many bad reviews about the beach and the seaweed, that I was expecting the worst (I am a beach person more than a pool person). Honestly, I don't know what these people were complaining about. Yes there were patches of sea weed here and there btu that's BECAUSE you're in the ocean, its natural. Water was clear and seaweed was never an issue. The views from the beach were truly breathtaking. We spent most of our time in the ocean and on the beach :)
The staff at the resort and the people we came across in St.Lucia were so nice and helpful. We want to especially thank Shayan, bell man/front desk, for all his help :) He went out of his way to answer any questions that we had and helped us out with anything that we needed as well as recommended some excellent restaurants out of the resort like Aunt Debbies and The Reef. It made our stay so much more pleasurable and special. Note to the Management:He truly deserves a raise/promotion asap!
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone, whether you are traveling as a couple or as a family.
St. Lucia is BEAUTIFUL, we had so much fun exploring the island ( Seafood Friday at Anse la Raye, street party at Gros Islet, snorkeling, Pitons, Diamond Falls, Mineral baths, Volcano, Toraille Falls, Rainforest and the list goes on).
Thank you Coconut Bay for the beautiful memories we will cherish for years to come.

I have read many reviews here before leaving to St Lucia so we were not surprised... okay, maybe a little as everything was much better than described here.
We had a 10-day wedding moon at Coconut bay... it was like a dream.
Most things were already mentioned here, I don't want to repeat it (pros and cons of the Atlantic side, great coctails, helpful and friendly staff, useful AC in rooms, quick transport from and to the airport, only 3 planes a day, it was not annoying, seaweed handled well etc.)

A few things that surprised me as I read it opposite here:
- there is a free wifi in the rooms (on 4th floor Harmony at least)
- the tap water is okay to drink but there is bottled still water available in the minibar which is all-inclusive as well
- the resort is in good condition and they were continuously improving it in a way that was not disturbing our peace

The rooms were clean, comfortable and nice (I was afraid that it would be too kitschy for the European taste but it was absolutely nice).
We were treated like kings: coctails, massage and live music upon arrival, fresh tropical fruits and champagne in ice in the room, always helpful staff who even tried to remember our names.
We spent most days around Harmony pool and bar which was quiet and ready to relax.
The food in the buffet restaurant was amazing, wide variety and delicious meals. I especially liked the cakes at dinner and the Irie jam (coconut-banana or mango-pineapple-banana) during breakfast time.
Chantal did a great job with the wedding planning, everything was in order, it was like a dream. We only had to lay back and relax.
Mitchie help us a lot at the Adventures desk, we attended one private tour to the Volcano, Botanical gardens and rainforest zipline. Plus he organized us a private scuba diving with transfer to Soufriere for only 15 dollars extra compared to the group of 4 person price. They really tried to help us in every way.
The lady at the Spa (sorry I forgot the name) made a great hair-do for the wedding. The are professionals you should trust them.

Even though we stayed at St Lucia during the rainy season we had rain only one morning so we were lucky with the weather as well.

I would recommend this resort to anyone who would like to stay at a clean and comfortable, friendly and nice resort instead of some posh and boring 5+ star resort. You surely have your time here. Hopefully we'll return one day.

Room Tip: Choose 4th floor Harmony (we were in room 444 with wonderful view).

I read many of the reviews before arriving at this resort so I feel I was well prepared. We had 11 family members (3 rooms). The party consisteted of my husband's parents (60's) his sister and family (kids 11, 9 and 7) and my family (kids 3 & 4). I've been nicknamed the hotel snob of the family so let's say for starters my expectations are really high. I realized this was not a five star or 6 golden apple depending on which sight you were checking for reviews so I would need to lower my "snobiness" for this trip. However with that said I am still ranking this hotel in the very good category. Upon arrival we were greated with champagne drinks and the kids received orange juice and we all received cool towels. Two of the three rooms were not ready when we arrived but we had all experienced this with other vacations so we were all prepared by having our bathing suits in our carry-on bags. This did not present a problem for our family and even had a room not been ready there was a changing area off the lobby that could accomodate us changing into our suits. Not having a room upon arrival does not impact my stay although I know this is seen as a negative by many. The grounds are well laid out with the Harmony side (adults only) and Splash side (family) and it would seem outside of the two main pools if you did not want to interact with kids you probably wouldn't have to. We stayed in the main pool with swim up pool bar the entire trip. The pool was clean and the kids had a wonderful time. My only disappointment here is I noticed over the weekend the pool staff was limited and it seemed that glasses would sit around the pool for extended periods of time. Granted I do think it's up to the person that ordered the beverage to properly dispose of their glass. It may help with ratings if they had a staff member that was quick to retrieve these glasses and rid them from the pool area at all times the pool is open. The bar staff was light at times and you did have to wait a little longer than normal to get a drink but you are on vacation to relax and enjoy so why the real hurry. Another staff behind the bar at peak times would also be beneficial. I truly enjoyed most of the food we had while at the resort. There were things I didn't like but you'll get that even at your favorite restuarant so I don't really think it's appropriate to discredit the food. We were able to make reservations at all the speciality resturaunts during our stay even for a party of 11. We also enjoyed the food at the buffet. The kids favorite part was the unlimited supply of nachos and cheese or fries with cheese at the beach grill. Food was good but service is very very slow since they typically only have one person preparing the food. My suggestion here is if there is only 1 or 2 people in line go then. Do not wait for the lunch hour. Hopefully the resort at some point could find a way to add more staff during the lunch hour. The grounds of the resort were very well kept and they did have activities through out the day to participate in. Our experience with the kids club was limited although we did venture over there and the older kids played for a couple hours. it did appear safe. The children in our party participated in the story telling night and absolutely loved it. While we stayed close to the event since our children were so young we still had a few moments to ourselves as adults. It was just my personal preference if you take children on vacation they are to be with you not a "nanny". So we opted not to utilize these services. So I saved my final critic which is probably the most disappointment with this resort, the rooms themselves. Again I was prepared based on the reviews what to expect. We found the rooms to be cleaned and they were cleaned daily and towels refreshed. However the rooms on the Splash side are very tired. The bathrooms are very small and outdated. Also there is a small window in the bathroom up high. Close them and you'll feel a huge temperature difference. The resort would probably raise their rating if they spent some money to refurbish the rooms. With that being said even though the rooms are basic and dated and the hotel snob I am, I would absolutely return to this resort again. The issues I had were minor and did not disturb my experience. Certainly I like a plush room to fall asleep in at night but I put that aside and while the room wasn't "pretty" I still had a great nights sleep and that's really the only time we spent in our room. Overall a very pleasant experience. The price was excellent outside of the airfare. The reviews seem to be dead on. Great resort with some minor changes needed.

Room Tip: No specific tips although maybe not pay extra for an ocean view unless you can guarentee a top floor...

We have just spent 10 days at the wonderful “coconut Bay” This hotel was recommended to us by our daughter who had previously stayed there about 4 years ago. However reading some of the recent reviews we went with an open mind.

We arrived after a long journey from the UK; we were greeted by a nice cold cocktail and from that instant the staff were just amazing and so helpful.

We stayed on the Harmony side of the complex but usually used the middle pool area.

The Room.
We had booked for a 3rd floor room; we had a lovely view of the ocean and of the complex. The room was bright and airy, nicely furnished with plenty of space for clothes in the wardrobe area. I would say that the bathroom had been recently decorated.

Pearl in room service was outstanding; if we did not see her during the day she would write a little note asking if there anything that we needed or just to say “hope you have had a “nice day” We had clean towels everyday. Room service was exceptional.

Beach grill
Natasha and her relief on Beach Grill worked tirelessly always with a smile in hot conditions. We ate at the Beach grill on a daily basis; there was a good varied menu, not just grilled food but salads also.

Calabash.
We were a bit reluctant to go to this restaurant after reading past reviews. However this was our favorite, the choice of food, quality and presentation. We ate here 4 times trying something different every time.

Silks
We also enjoyed Silks, you can not fault it.

Capri
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience at this restaurant and we did not return another night. We were very surprised at this as there have been many positive reviews about it. This restaurant is our only real negative.
The restaurant was not very busy; we had to wait along while at the reception post before being seated to our table. The staff did not seem to notice us, there was only about 3 tables being used when we arrived. We were eventually seated and given the menu. We must have sat for over 20 minutes before anyone came back to take our order or offer us a drink. When the starter eventually arrived my husbands was wrong. The server said “are you sure” The meals we felt lacked flavour, but were well presented. It was difficult to get wine at the table as no one really bothered. The server asked us if we wanted Coffee, my husband asked for an expresso, he was told that they did not do them at the restaurant and if he wanted one he would have to walk into the Lobby and get one. The location is quite noisy for “alfresco eating”

The gardens were beautiful and very well kept and we really appreciated all the hard work that was put in by the beach staff not just on tractors but also on rakes in their attempts to keep the beach as clear as possible of the excessive amounts of seaweed which the hotel had to deal with. Although this was a never ending battle it was obviously a priority with the hotel for the comfort of its guests. The pools and pool areas are kept to a very high standard of cleanliness.

We are hoping to return to Coconut Bay later this year bringing our daughter and granddaughter we had such an amazing time. Thank You Cocobay.

Room Tip: Third floor in Harmony you get a lovley view. The plug socket take the standard UK three pin or the...
