“Lovely Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

This B&B is situated on a saddle bordered by bushland, mountain peaks and a pristine river to walk along. The vivid colours of a mature European garden supply contrast in the foreground. Cheerful, attentive hosts; all amenities meticulously clean; a standard breakfast which is a cut above. This is great value. After cycling many kms taking in the breathtaking harbour views, it was really nice to enjoy a beverage on the private verandah, taking in the mountain grandeur. We make Margate B&B our stop on the way to and from Bruny Island. The ferry is 10 minutes away.

Margate Cottage is the most lovely, tranquil, relaxing and special place we've ever stayed. The scenery is so beautiful, it's quiet, the hosts Robyn and Leigh are so good at what they do and the breakfasts are the best we've ever had at a B&B (and that's before you even go the extra for a hot breakfast). The claw foot bath is deep and more than big enough for two, and the room is nice and warm, while the verandah is great for relaxing on in the afternoon with a glass of wine. You can also take a little meander down the back of the farm to a creek which is just beautiful. The hike back up to the cottage makes you appreciate your dinner! There are games to borrow from Robyn, or you can watch TV if you want, the oversized armchairs are great for lounging in.

There is a great winery just down the road, and another vineyard 5 minutes drive away where you can have dinner, as well as several other options in Margate. If you feel like staying in, the local woodfired pizza place (we recommend the 'Satan' pizza if you like it hot!) will deliver up to the cottage itself for three bucks.

It's so close to get into the city or to take off to wherever you'd like to go, yet you really just feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. It was perfect for us (and our four month old baby) and we felt like we were treated really well.

Our next trip to Tassie will see us booked in here again, we highly recommend it. Thanks Robyn and Leigh, and we hope your 6th grandchild finally arrived safe and well!
Kate and David, plus baby Charlie.

Room Tip: The cottage is completely separate from the house and is where we stayed. So secluded so that comin...

Wonderful. Great gardens, fine rooms. Everything as you would hope. Very caring and helpful host and hostess. We spent 5 weeks in Australia and this was our favorite place even though we spent much more for our rooms elsewhere.. This is about as good as it gets.

We stayed in the Margate Cottage in December 2010. Lovely place and very hospitable hosts. The view over gardens and mountains was impressive. Conveniently located to Hobart and Airport (about 40 min.). Very good restaurants at close proximity. Breakfast was tasteful and sumptuous. Room was very comfortable, clean and spatious. We can recommend this guesthouse to all discerning travellers..

It is the best B&B ever!! As a group of 4, we enjoyed our stay in Margateb. We love everything here. The cottage is extremely clean and well decorated. Personally I am not a fan of country style, but I do love Margate cottage for its fresh yet sweet looking. Took lots of pictures of the room :-)

The garden is also beautiful! So lucky we came in Spring/Summer and saw the colorful flowers. Take a deep breath and smell the fresh air in the morning keeps me smile all day. On sunny day, we can see the Mt wellington right in front of the house with a touch of sunshine. What a picture!

Highly recommend the $10 breakfast - we four love the smoke salmon!!! It is worth of money and tastes really good!

Last but not least, many thanks to the owner, Robyn and Leigh. It is your warmly welcome that makes this journey memorable!! We enjoyed every minutes at the cottage and looking forward to coming back again!

This place is not only beautiful because of its well thought out gardens, lovely view and extreme attention to detail within the cottages, but because the owners actually have a heart to make it much more than just an income, they love being hospitable without being intrusive and want to make your stay a most pleasant one. I took my mother to this place and we had such a lovely time. Having someone else prepare the breakfast, the lovely fruit platter, and having a place that was extremely clean to stay in was a delight. The owners friendly and informative about even what was available in each season in produce in Tasmania and informative about the surrounds and the history were wonderful. We had the best sleep out of all out stay and not far away ate at " The Beach " down the road which was lovely as well. Its literally no more than 15 drive from Hobart City Centre and I would reccommend this place to both business and leisure travellers that want to be well cared for. Great price , great location and most wonderful hosts. Theres not one thing I could say that was really lacking with this accommodation offered. Thank you for a most wonderful stay! Elsa & Mum.

We only had one night at this lovely B&B and it was cold and wet. Even so, with a warm welcome, a great view across the green valley to the mountains beyond and the English country garden on our door step the weather became insignificant.
The appointments in the Cottage were 'just right' with lots of little touches which enhanced the feeling that everything had been done by the owners to make you feel at home.
The breakfast presentation was in the same style especially the home-made jams. Despite my pleas for less weight on the flight home, my partner had to leave with 'samples', in memory of our most enjoyable, but too short a stay!
