We had lunch here and really enjoyed it. The food was tasty (steamed mussels particularly) and a decent wine was only $8.50. My partner loves his craft beer and had something nice from coromandel breweries.
We were three adults and 5 children. The staff were very nice to the kids and asked them to stay away from the spa area, but there was plenty of lawn to play on, away from guests.
They were busy the day we visited but got our drinks out quickly, so all good to wait a little.
Our waiter told us about a water hole, so we left our cars in the carpark there and went for a 15 minute walk into the bush to a beautiful spot where the kids swam for ages! A lovely afternoon ... would definitely go back.

We found this place by accident when doing a search for accommodation in the Coromandel. We are so glade we did, this out of the way retreat is surrounded by native bush and birds. The lodges are well appointed and are fully self contained, fully equipped kitchen, laundry and BBQ.
An on-site cafe/restaurant is also available with excellent food. There is a games area to help with the relaxation as well as three spa pools, however if you want to use the massage service you may need to book it before you arrive, as if was fully booked for the two days we were there. Staff are very friendly. Getting there does have it's challenges as it is on a long winding gravel road, but does let that put you off. The Lodge does not have any cellphone coverage, but you can purchase wifi access while you are there. There are 14 lodges available sleeping from 5 to 7 people. Over an excellent experience would highly recommend a visit.

Room Tip: Lodge numbers 7 and above are situated away from the office/cafe area so have less traffic and are surround more by native bush

Since your activity-meter is at an all time high,by now....... time to decelerate, right?
How does this sound? After a drive into sublime wilderness, you arrive into simply understated luxury, where you will be lulled to sleep by a kiwi call, have a massage from a therapist and a soak in a private tub in the native bush. Bet, you have never experienced this? at even 5- star establishments.
Quality touches throughout..... the therapist, not included!!.....friendly staff throughout. If you don't want crowds, don't come here.
Compliments to management for an excellent facility.

We came across this hidden gem online & were welcomed in a laid back Kiwi way. The one lady working was very friendly, efficient & knowledgable about the local area. The grounds & the setting are peaceful & relaxing.....especially the bush Spa & massage area just off the front deck. But it was also nice to see families enjoying the space & hearing laughter.....we were there during School Holidays.
The Lodges are top quality with gas fires.....excellent for a Winter break. Roomy and comfortable with fully equipped kitchen, so you can prepare your own meals if you wish. The workmanship is top class with natural timber features. There are two bedroom lodges further up the drive. Nice beaches are a 5 minute drive away.
The whole development & concept is eco inspired & we loved the fact it was hidden away in a quiet valley, unlike other areas of Coromandel where there are glass front monstrosities spoiling beach fronts!! The cafe offered a smallish menu of great value meals which were of high quality.
We were just very very pleasantly surprised & delighted. If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all......from our experience we can highly recommend Tangiaro Kiwi Retreat.

We stopped by for a meal and a look at the place. It is oddly away from some of the best beaches in the world and locked into a little valley of no particular note. The villas are close together and even in the carpark we could hear children loudly in one villa - it probably could be heard in the others. It stuck me as boring; the menu was small and the food was average. We stayed at a Department of Conservation hut north at Stoney Bay - it was much more adventurous, beautiful and fun
