“Not a lot there”

Little to see but a great beech. The settlement has grown up and is a holiday centre. The Monument to Cooks epic task is small and not well signposted.

“Cooks Beach is beautiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013

I recently spent a mid-winter day at Cooks Beach with 3 children and they loved it here. Cooks Beach is a shallow, white sand, clear blue water beach with no surf, and it's perfect for families and young children. The estuary at the south end of the beach is fantastic fun for all ages & it's here were we spent most of our time while the kids played. Also great for river kayaking & paddling. For extra fun, drive 5 mins to Ferry Landing & leave the car while you take the little ferry across to Whitianga, and grab some fish & chips for a picnic in the park while the kids enjoy the great playground beside the harbour. Easy to do, cheap, & fun for all ages.

“Stunning beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2013

If you like to find isolated beaches where few people go then this stunning beach is for you.

Cooks beach is only a short drive from Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove and just as good. Lovely arc of pure white sand in the most beautiful setting.

You can drive right up to it or walk to it from Ferry landing via Flaxmill Bay, Shakespeare's Cliff & Look Out from where you get the the most amazing views of Mercury Bay. Then drop down to Cooks beach.

Return via the bottom path that takes you along by the road.

The return walk takes you no more than two hours.

“Relaxing at cooks beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2013

Cooks Beach is a beautiful relaxing spot - the beach is great to walk - high tide can be difficult as water reaches retaining wall for a short section. Swimming in the Estuary is fun - swim over to the other side as it's much sandier. Simple dairy and takeaways bring your supplies with you if you are staying for a few days or take the ferry (passenger) over to Whitianga to get your supplies and have a look around.

“Great beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2013

Great beach, nice for kids, however very little to no shade, so take an umbrella! No shops on the beach, but its only a short walk to the shops where there is a cafe, little shop and a take away.
