“Home Away from Home (with a better view!)”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

We stayed at the Green House for 2 nights and had a fabulous stay. Malcolm and Denise were great hosts. They had great tips of where to go both in Coromandel and other parts of our North Island trip. We stayed in the room on the top floor, overlooking the ocean. It was nice and private with a separate door leading to a little luggage area and then the bathroom and bedroom. The lounge upstairs is a nice place to relax and plan your trip and we enjoyed chatting after dinner with another couple there at night. The breakfasts were lovely, including beautiful fruit from the garden. It was only a very short walk into town. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic stay here as part of our honeymoon. We got such a warm welcome and a superb breakfast. Malcolm and Denise will have lots of ideas to help you fill your time in Coromandel.

The room and lounge were fitted top quaity with lots of little touches that make it very homely.

We were staying here for 4 nights in January 2013. Denise and Malcolm are wonderful hosts. The breakfast is very good. The rooms are very good as well, especially the one looking out on the sea.
There is a nice lounge, where you can sit, but also in the garden is nice to sit.
In summer it can be hot however in the room.

My partner and myself stayed here a year ago and I have only gotton around to writing my diary! We were passing trade and the other accommodation in the town did not meet my high standards. It was obvious as soon as we viewed the room that it was super-clean. Unfortunately, the only room reaining was one next door to the owner's lounge, kitchen and bedroom. But as we were only staying one night this was ok. There was a small spotless communal lounge upstairs with a computer, tv, tea and biscuits, fridge etc.....This was great and was very comfortable. Our en suite room was lovely and bed very comfortable. The breakfast was a good quality continental with home-made ingredients. The negative was that there was no hot food, For the price that we paid (£75 ) you would expect a cooked meal. The other negative was that you all had to share a table. Us with two men in the kitchen area/lounge. The time was also set and not from eg. 8 - 9 am. We were shown the other two rooms upstairs next morning and they were far superior to ours. I hope that they were more expensive!!! Overall this place is highly recommended and if we had booked ahead and been given one of the two rooms upstairs then a score of 5 would be given. The breakfast arrangement would not have reduced their score. Malcom and Denise work hard to maintain their high standards and I wish then well.

Room Tip: asj for a room upstairs and not the one beside the kitchen and lounge.

Malcolm S, Owner at The Green House B&B, responded to this review, 14 February 2013
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our B&B. We really appreciate your positive comments but would like to respond to the negative ones. In all our advertising we do state clearly that we provide a "Continental Breakfast". This consists of home-made bread, preserves, yoghurt and fruit compot; a choice of cereals; fresh fruit salad, including fruits from the garden; tea, coffee and fruit juice; a platter of cold meats, cheeses and tomatoes. In addition to this we also offer eggs in whatever form the guests wish.
99% of our guests comment extremely favourably on the quality and choice of our breakfast.
Breakfast can be served at any time and we always ask our guests what time they would like it. Some require breakfast early (once 5 a.m. due to taking part in a cycle race) because they have a long way to travel and some prefer a later breakfast. We are happy to accommodate breakfast at any time. However, we do encourage everyone to eat at the same time as we feel the social interaction is an important part of staying in a B&B. It is also an opportunity for us to recommend places to visit so guests make the most of their time with us.
We took over the B&B about 4 years ago and although we have spent 10s of thousands of dollars refurbishing the whole house, we have not increased the prices one cent. Compared with other similar B&Bs in our town we are very competitive.
I have stayed in 3 star hotels in the UK that charge 80 pounds and provide only a very basic room, old-fashioned en-suite, no breakfast and wi-fi you have to pay for.
Since the time of the reviewer's stay, the "Garden Room" has been improved with the addition of patio doors leading out to a private garden/patio area with rural and sea views. All guests have use of the very comfortable guest lounge that has beautiful views over the ranges and bay. Free wi-fi throughout the property.

We were lucky to get two rooms at the last minute when our other booking in Coromandel went wrong. How pleased we were though as things have a way of working out. This place is really worth the drive, great location with fantastic views and an easy walk to town. Very comfortably furnished with great facilities and spotlessly clean. The fact that Malcolm and Denise are also the perfect hosts was just the icing on the cake. Thoroughly recommended.

Joanne & I stayed with Malcom & Denise in early December 2012 along with two other couples in our party. Could not recommend this lovely B&B any higher. Beautiful views out the back and panoramic views of the bay out the front.

We had informed them we r on our honeymoon, so they arranged a bottle of wine and a card! That set the tone. Gave excellent suggestions. About what to do, when to do. Especially the hot water beach suggestion. That was the highlight of the trip in coromandel. Breakfast was also good.
Detailing from start to end. Would recommend it to any1!
