We had such a brilliant stay here over 3 nights. After reading all the great reviews, it definately lives up to it's name. Lovely, helpful and hilarious hosts that made us feel so comfortable and welcome.
It is about a 15-20min walk from the township, but is worth it for the peace and quiet plus the bonus views.
The room was surprisingly large, absolutely spotless and very homely. The only bugbear we had was hearing the neighbours doing their dishes early in the mornings, a bit of sound-proofing wouldn't go astray.
However I would highly recommend this motel to anyone wanting to visit Coromandel, and it would be the only motel I would stay at if we go to Coromandel again. It really did top the holiday off nicely.

Room Tip: A room on the far ends

It's quiet and peaceful 2 km outside of town, with very nice views of the bay and surrounding hills from the balcony. A level walk along the road or a hilly bush track gets you to cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops within half an hour. The road below ends at a caravan park about a km farther north so it's not very busy. There are several bicycles available for free, and a hot spa pool too. The owners are very friendly and helped us get the bikes fitted and tires inflated. The unit's kitchen was equipped for three full meals at Easter weekend when we expected restaurants to be closed (turns out some were actually open). There is a queen bed and another room with two twins, all very comfortable.

We do recommend bringing insect repellant if you're sitting outside for any length of time. Sandflies or mosquitos were in stealth mode on the deck. You won't see them, but you'll feel the welts the next day.

Room Tip: All rooms have a panoramic view of the bay and sunset. Rooms farther down (e.g. 5, 6) have weaker wi...

Nothing fancy - just good, clean, bright accommodation in a quiet location with helpful hosts and a great view across the water. Coromandel Town itself is a charming little place and less than 5 mins away by car. We were passing through for just one night, but this would make a great base for a longer stay.

We selected this property for our 3 week New Zealand vacation based upon Trip Advisor reviews and price—trying to find the “sweet spot”. We held all our reviews until the end of the trip in hopes of reasonable comparisons across the country, factoring in the standards we found typical in New Zealand (for example, free, unlimited internet is not the norm as it generally is in the US).

This property changed ownership/management in April 2011. Friendly owner Des Mills greeted us and showed us our room. Room was clean and nicely equipped. Check reader photos to get a sense for it. You pay a bit of a premium for the water view, yet this is what Coromandel is all about. With just six units, it is quiet.

Motel is about 5 minutes from town. With prior arrangement, Des will drive you to and from for $5 each way; a nice service if you decide to take in one of the town pubs at night.

One small critique. Apparently window screens are not common in NZ.

We'd definately stay there again.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms...all of them have the same water view and fairly private balconies.

From the moment we arrived and the incredibly warm greeting afforded by the owner Leanne we were impressed. The motel is a little way out of town but who cares, the view of the bay from our room was just fabulous.

The room itself is huge, seriously huge, decorated very simply and tastefully with a full kitchen and extremely clean bathroom. It has a nice feel and the owner clearly has added the personal touches - carton of milk in the fridge for drinks, informative folder with all the details of the area. There is also a large hot tub at the back of the property.

We stayed the night before in a "boutique" b&b and this beats it hands down. It is nice to arrive somewhere where so much care and attention shows and to such a warm welcome.

Room Tip: Ask for Unit four or five - feel like you are sitting on the water

This was a very clean well run spot, quiet and what a view the sunsets are stunning. The beds were firm, the kitchen well equipped, everything tidy and clean. They have a spa and a full laundry facility including a nice line to use outdoors. The hosts were so nice we didn't want to leave! It's a great location if you love seafood and hiking, walk into town and get a few of those luscious mussels and have a meal. There are quite a few things to do and many great hikes to take in the area. Leanne will help you plan out your visit and is quite helpful and kind. The weather wasn't so great when we were there but the surrounding and view made it great just the same. Lots of people come here for a longer stay and we can see why!

A friend from Whidbey Island recommended this place to us, she had seen it leaving the Coromandel a few years ago and she's heading there after our rave review.
