Evelyne is an excellent hostess in her beautiful home. We had the room beside her studio and the bath is set into an alcove with glass walls so that it feels as though you are actually in amongst the tree ferns. As she is an artist and trained chef the meals Evelyne provides are delicious works of art (you do need to give 48hrs notice if you want dinner). If you don't want to eat in there are several restaurants in the town but it is a bit far to walk back after dinner so you'll need to take a car. Because the house is on a hill, the drive up is very steep but there are spectacular views once you are there.

This is a luxurious B&B set amonst native bush overlooking Coromandel township. The building was purpose built as a B&B by Eveleyn and her late husband. It offers 3 fully self-contained guest rooms, although Eveleyn says that she normally does not take reservations for more than two rooms at a time. We stayed in the "Honeymoon Suite", which is seperate form the main house and adjacent to Eveleyn's studio (yes, she is an artist, as well as a Swiss trained gourmet chef and hostess). The room was spotless and included a king-sized bed, a stereo system with a large selection of CDs and, thankfully, no television. The bathroom offered a bath and seperate shower.

If you go there, and you should, be sure to ask Eveleyn to cook a dinner for you - she is a superb chef.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Buffalo Lodge and look forward to retuning some day.

Thankyou Eveleyn.

Why using a lot of words describing Buffalo Lodge and and our host Evelyne?

It's just a place with:
- perfect friendly hospitality
- great views at sea and bush
- relaxed atmosphere
- good and comfortable accomodation
- fantastic (with in a concretemixer cured beans) coffees
- superb "haute cuisine" meals

Together with all the good advises for trips and walks an unforgettable place to stay!

I had the most fantastic time staying at Buffalo Lodge. Evelyn was so welcoming and friendly that I felt very relaxed and happy to be there - which was important especially as I was travelling alone. The room was very very clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view. The food was wonderful (both breakfast and dinner) and I look forward to maybe staying here again one day!

My husband and I just stayed for a weekend with Everlyne at Buffalo Lodge. We have been back for a few times over the last few years. Everlyne is such a talented unique hostess with a generouse and warm character, She is a trained Chef and an artist. She makes you feel at home and pampers you like friends, let alone the views of the mountains, sea and the lovely sunset. I feel I am recharged and ready for the new chalenges. Thank you very much, Everlyne.

We were made welcome by Evelyne from the moment we arrived. The location and views are fabulous from the terraces, both bedroom and main living area, and the lodge itself is perfectly in tune with the landscape. We took the opportunity to have dinner one night of our stay. Evelyne needs a day's notice for this, and on the night we understood why. This was the best dinner we had in five weeks in New Zealand. We were the only guests dining that night, and having a highly talented professional chef all to ourselves was quite an experience. Just as important, she was agreat dinner companion when she had finished cooking. The ambience in the lodge is great, with original art works in a modern setting. A highlight of our trip.

Evelyne is a wonderful host and she was instrumental to my lovely time in Coromandel and indeed, much of my time in New Zealand. Her home is beautifully designed to ensure the best views and light, and it is one of the very best architected homes in the area.
As a solo traveler with jet-lag, Evelyn took me under her wing and made sure I was happy and well-provided for. She is very knowledgeable about the Coromandel area, but as importantly, knows both the north and south islands quite well having tramped them both many times. Her guidance was a bonus as I was still planning my itinerary and I cannot thank her enough. Her wisdom proved most helpful during the following 5 remaining weeks of my trip. If you appreciate beautiful homes, lively conversation with a knowledgeable and gracious host and a backdrop of gorgeous views, you should look no further- Buffalo Lodge is the place.
